Chapter 205: Departure
"You'll agree sooner or later..." Fran sneered coldly, then fell silent, leaning back in his chair and closing his eyes to rest.
"Heh..." Lys chuckled awkwardly, but didn't leave the fireplace immediately. For one, Fran's status was special—he was the disciple of Creator Nolan, and wherever he went, he deserved respect.
And besides, Lys himself was far from confident...
It was true—Merlin had demonstrated astonishing alchemical skill, a level even Lys, a fellow master, deeply admired.
But Merlin was simply too young—barely in his twenties. Even if he'd started learning alchemy from birth, that would amount to just over twenty years of experience. No matter how gifted Merlin was, he was bound to be lacking in experience...
And unfortunately, breaking alchemical arrays was the one thing that relied most on experience.
It was precisely this concern that made Lys so indecisive—partly furious at Fran's greed, partly forced to play along.
After all, no one could guarantee that Merlin would be able to break every alchemical array. If Lys offended Fran now, and Merlin ran into trouble in Vaughn's Vault, wouldn't their joint expedition be completely ruined?
So, for now, all Lys could do was try to appease both sides, offending neither.
