"Fay Yang, what are you saying?" a man spoke up. "We're here to celebrate Julia Yu today. Is there really a need for all that sarcasm?"
Most of the people who came today are professionals in the workplace.
And quite a few of them have already struggled and experienced a lot out there in society.
They know all too well.
Some people can get jealous, some can feel bitter.
But when it comes to someone at Julia Yu's level, jealousy isn't even possible anymore.
You have to praise, flatter, and please her—jealousy simply isn't an option!
Because there's no way to be jealous of her.
For example, colleagues in the same department might get jealous—maybe someone landed more deals or has better performance. But would a janitor ever envy the CEO of their company?
Of course not!
Because the gap is just too wide.
When the distance between two people becomes an unbridgeable chasm, all that's left is admiration, not jealousy.
That's human nature.
So, everyone else at the table just couldn't understand Fay Yang's way of thinking.
It took a lot of effort to put this dinner together—finally getting a chance to eat and chat with Julia Yu, maybe even get a little closer.
What exactly is Fay Yang here for?
Is she here to stir things up?
Does Fay Yang have something wrong with her head?
Even if she's jealous of Julia Yu, what's the point?
Does she really think she could ever replace Julia Yu as Max Mo's Chief Special Assistant?
Where did this idiot come from?
Julia Yu isn't some rookie just starting out—of course she understands what Fay Yang is thinking.
Fay Yang is just feeling resentful, that's all.
Back in school, their dorms were right next to each other, so everyone knew each other's family situation.
Fay Yang was so proud back then. After all, getting into their university was already proof of her talent.
So Fay Yang actually looked down on the poor and struggling Julia Yu.
Back then, one of Fay Yang's handbags cost three or four thousand, and that was half a year's living expenses for Julia Yu.
So seeing Julia Yu, who was nowhere near her level back then, suddenly soar to success, Fay Yang couldn't help but feel uncomfortable.
She came here this time just to see if Julia Yu is really all that amazing now.
Originally, she wanted to cozy up to Julia Yu, but when she saw her in person, Fay Yang just couldn't help but get bitter.
Why?!
Why is it that Julia Yu, who used to be beneath her in every way, is now part of high society, while she's still struggling, earning just a few thousand a month?
She just can't accept it!
Julia Yu just smiled at that. She's got a good temperament, but that doesn't mean she doesn't have a backbone. So she said to Fay Yang, "So, Fay Yang, you also ended up working at the law firm I used to work for? Guess that makes us sort of colleagues. A few days ago, when the company threw me a celebration party, the three bosses from the firm came too. We even reminisced about working together back in the day. Oh, and you probably didn't know this, but Mr. Wang is also part of the Mo Consortium's legal team. Before I became Chief Special Assistant, I worked with Mr. Wang on a case for Mr. Mo."
Mr. Wang is one of the three bosses at the law firm where Fay Yang works.
Julia Yu managed to slap Fay Yang in the face without even flinching.
She let Fay Yang know that even before becoming Chief Special Assistant, she'd already been on equal footing with Fay Yang's boss, working together as peers.
Not just now—even in the past, Julia Yu was someone Fay Yang couldn't even dream of catching up to.
Everyone present was sharp—they all knew how to throw verbal jabs.
When Julia Yu said that, everyone stifled their laughter.
Fay Yang's face turned red with anger.
That's right—officially she's working at the law firm, but in reality, she's just a receptionist. How could she possibly compare to Julia Yu?
Julia Yu worked alongside her boss!
Who does Fay Yang think she is, anyway?
Fay Yang, with a stiff expression, said, "Julia Yu, I guess you've made it in your career. But how come I've never heard any news about you getting married?"
If she can't attack Julia Yu at work, she'll go after her personal life.
Julia Yu replied calmly, "I'm not considering that for now. I'm focused on my career and don't have time for anything else."
Fay Yang scoffed, "Women will end up back in the family sooner or later. Wait too long and nobody will want you."
Before Julia Yu could respond, a woman sitting next to her couldn't help but jump in: "Fay Yang, and here I thought you were a top college graduate! Did all those years of studying go straight to the dogs? Even if Julia Yu never gets married, her life is way better than yours! She has a house, a car, makes a million a year, and can go wherever she wants. Besides, with technology these days, if she really wants a kid, she could just get a surrogate in the US. Do you really think graduating college, getting married, and popping out kids is the only way to live? Look at you—you're the same age as Julia Yu, but she looks like she's still in college, and you're covered in wrinkles! So, you think having wrinkles makes you superior?"
"Pfft."
"Pfft."
Several people around couldn't hold back and burst out laughing.
No wonder people say law students are quick with their words.
Even though that classmate doesn't practice law anymore, her tongue is still as sharp as ever.
Even Julia Yu couldn't help but laugh along.
After getting roasted again and again, Fay Yang's eyes turned red with anger. She suddenly stood up and said, "Did I say anything wrong? Even if Julia Yu is talented and rich, if she gets old and no man wants her, she'll end up all alone. When she dies, there'll be no one to care!"
"C'mon, Fay Yang, that's going too far," a male classmate said. "We're all classmates here—why make things so harsh?"
"Did I say anything wrong? You guys—tell me, isn't this what you all think? Don't women all end up back in the family, having kids and taking care of the house? If no women in the world got married or had kids, wouldn't humanity go extinct?" Fay Yang argued, still convinced she was right.
Julia Yu replied calmly, "How could humanity go extinct? Isn't there someone like you, bravely taking on the mission of having kids?"

"Pfft."
"Pfft."
Another round of people snickered.
"Whether I have kids or what happens when I get old—that's my business, so don't worry about it," Julia Yu said. "It's a class reunion today, so let's not get into this topic. How about we order food?"
"Order food, order food!" Everyone chimed in.
Fay Yang still wanted to say something, but someone tugged her sleeve, so she sat back down angrily and ordered several expensive dishes in a huff.
The girl sitting next to Julia Yu glanced at Fay Yang with disdain and whispered to Julia, "Ignore her. Her brain's messed up. No idea how her family raised her—wasted a college education, always obsessed with having kids, it's gross. Whenever she pops up in the group chat, I just stay quiet. She's always acting like reproducing is her life's mission, and honestly, a lot of people are sick of her."
"It's fine," Julia Yu smiled. She's met plenty of people like that before.
"Look at her—she's obviously super jealous of you, but still has to put you down. And when it comes to ordering food, she's not shy at all. As soon as she heard you were treating and we didn't have to split the bill, she was the first to sign up. She's not even from our department, so what's she doing here?" The girl said, "You should keep your distance from her, or who knows how she'll drag you down."
"Thanks." Julia Yu gave her a grateful smile. Honestly, a lot of classmates are pretty adorable.
No, most people actually have brains.
Anyone with sense knows you can't afford to offend Julia Yu.
Only an idiot would pick a fight with Julia Yu at a time like this.
Once everyone finished ordering, the conversation turned to work, daily life, and people started asking Julia Yu for advice.
Most of the people here either work in law or teach it.
So, most of the talk was about cases they'd handled themselves.
Whenever they hit a tricky situation, they'd ask Julia Yu for her opinion.
Julia Yu didn't hold back—she shared what she knew and gave practical advice.
After all, most people here never get the chance to work on big cases like Julia Yu does, so whenever she gave advice, everyone looked genuinely grateful.
Seeing how popular Julia Yu was, Fay Yang looked even more uncomfortable.
Julia Yu wiped her mouth and said, "Sorry, I'll be right back."
Julia Yu turned and headed to the restroom.
She took out her lipstick to touch up her makeup. Julia Yu was about to settle the bill at the front desk, and hadn't even dried her hands when she heard a surprised voice beside her: "Assistant Yu?"
Julia Yu turned to look and saw a man who seemed familiar, his face lit up with excitement.
"Hello, and you are?" Julia Yu asked uncertainly.
The man looked a bit deflated. "It's me, Xiong Xiong!"
Seeing Julia Yu still didn't recognize him, he quickly added, "I'm the one who went on that blind date with Li Si!"
Only then did Julia Yu remember.
You can't blame Julia Yu for not recognizing him.
The man standing in front of her now looked nothing like the guy she remembered from the blind date.
Back then, Xiong Xiong wore his hair in a wild, gelled explosion, ripped jeans, and had the whole rebellious bad boy vibe.
Today, though he wasn't dressed formally, Xiong Xiong at least looked a lot more normal.
"So it's Xiong Shao—long time no see," Julia Yu greeted him politely.
"No need for formalities. Just call me Xiong," he said, suddenly shy around his goddess. Seeing Julia Yu washing her hands, he quickly asked, "Are you eating here too?"
"Yeah." Julia Yu didn't want to chat much, so she just nodded.
"Which room are you in?" Xiong Xiong couldn't help but ask, "Don't get me wrong, I don't mean anything by it."
"303," Julia Yu replied, unfazed. "Sorry, my classmates are waiting for me. I'll see you around."
Whatever Xiong Xiong wanted to say got stuck in his throat. He could only watch as his goddess walked farther and farther away.
"Hey, Xiong, what are you staring at?" His friend came out of the restroom and saw Xiong Xiong looking completely dazed, staring off into the distance. He couldn't help but sling an arm around his neck: "Got bewitched by a fairy?"
