Tricking Her Out of Silver
"What's the bet?"
"If I can't cure her, I'll lose my life. But I'll bet this instead!"
As she spoke, Chloe Zhu pulled out a piece of glowing green jade from around her neck. "This is my family's heirloom, passed down through five generations. It's worth a fortune!"
Ruby, who could spot a treasure from a mile away, instantly had her eyes light up with pure greed when she saw the jade.
"If I cure her... I bet you don't have that much money, so just wager two hundred taels of silver. How about it? Dare to bet?" Chloe Zhu asked.
Ruby's heart skipped a beat.
That jade was just too gorgeous to resist!
Its green glow was so deep and mesmerizing!
Two hundred taels of silver against a priceless heirloom... How could she not think this was a steal?
"Fine, let's bet!" Ruby said. "You think I don't know your little tricks? You just want us to think you can cure her so the General lets his guard down, and then you'll stall for time and try to escape—"
She didn't even finish her sentence before she was cut off.
Because Cecilia Chen suddenly sat up.
She sat up, still pale from blood loss, but grabbed Chloe Zhu's hand with joy. "Lily, I think I'm really better! My spiritual power isn't crashing around anymore, and my meridians are recovering!"
The medicine Chloe gave her was a fifth-grade spiritual pill, so of course she recovered fast.
By tomorrow morning, she'd probably be able to move around like nothing happened.
"Yep." Chloe Zhu smiled and nodded. "By tomorrow morning, your meridians should be fully healed. If you drink some blood-replenishing soup tonight, you'll recover even faster!"
"You're a miracle worker!" Cecilia Chen said gratefully. "How can I ever repay you?"
Chloe Zhu grinned mischievously. "Miss Cecilia, you heard my bet with Ruby just now, right? As long as you and the General can vouch for me, she won't be able to weasel out of paying up."
"You and the General"—those words made Cecilia beam. She gazed lovingly at Evan Xiao. "Of course! General, you can vouch for Lily too, right?"
Evan Xiao shot Chloe Zhu a sideways glance and nodded.
Chloe guessed he’d never refuse a request from his delicate sweetheart. Bingo!
Ruby’s face turned even uglier than Cecilia’s—like she was about to cough up blood.
Two hundred taels of silver!
She really did have two hundred taels of silver. It took her five years to save that up!
Five years!
That Lily Bai definitely tricked her out of her silver—no doubt about it!
Holding back tears, Ruby nearly dug her own fingers into her palm out of frustration...
Early the next morning, just as Chloe Zhu predicted, Cecilia Chen was back to normal.
Not only were her meridians fully restored, but thanks to Chloe’s fifth-grade spiritual pill, her spiritual power was even stronger than before.
The guards who’d been keeping an eye on Chloe Zhu finally left.
By breakfast time, Chloe Zhu had already brewed a pot of tea and cheerfully carried it to the dining hall where Evan Xiao was eating.
It was her special tea, perfect for after meals—cleans your mouth, freshens your breath, and is a must-have for chatting and kissing.
But Evan didn’t seem impressed. He frowned when he saw her. "Why are you still here?"
"General, I’m your maid. If I’m not here, where should I be?" Chloe blinked her big, innocent eyes, looking genuinely puzzled.
"Just because I spared your life doesn’t mean you can stay here," Evan Xiao said with a blank face.
"What?" Chloe looked genuinely shocked. "Are you kicking me out, General?"
Evan Xiao: "You have the time it takes to finish a cup of tea—then get out of the manor."
