Serena Feng’s face darkened, the smile at her lips vanishing instantly. “You’re questioning my Medical Ethics? Slandering the reputation of Eastlyn’s physicians? The Su Clan from Southern Lyn sure has a lot of nerve.”
If the Su Clan from Southern Lyn doesn’t trust me, doesn’t trust the doctors of Eastlyn, then go find someone else. Lucky for you, I don’t care to treat you anyway. Patients can choose their doctors, but doctors have every right to choose their patients too.”
What a stupid woman! Serena could understand the desperation of a patient’s family, but she hated it when they lashed out without thinking. She always tried to put herself in their shoes—but did they ever do the same for her?
Especially since this maid’s careless words dragged all of Eastlyn’s doctors into the mess. If she’s digging her own grave, she has no one else to blame. Besides, if Su Wan’s illness drags out a little longer, there are plenty of people who’d be happy about it.
“Miss Feng, what do you mean by that? Are you threatening the Su Clan?” Su Wan’s maid’s eyes flashed with panic. Only now did she realize this was Eastlyn, and Serena Feng wasn’t just any doctor—she was the eldest lady of House Feng of Loyalty, her rank no lower than Su Wan’s.
Ha! Serena Feng laughed like she’d just heard the funniest joke. “Threaten you? Why would I need to threaten a mere maid? Even if Su Wan herself stood before me, I’d say the same thing. Is the Su Clan really that impressive? Aren’t you just a family that got rich selling daughters? What else do you know besides that?”
It was the truth, but no one dared say it to the Su Clan’s face. What they saw as their pride, Serena spoke with nothing but contempt and scorn.
“Serena Feng, you—you—you’ve got some nerve!” Su Wan’s maid was so angry her face turned green, her finger shaking as she pointed at Serena, not out of fear but fury—she wanted nothing more than to tear Serena apart.
Serena strode toward the maid, her smile looking more terrifying by the second, her eyes cold as the snows of Northlyn. With a crisp slap, she knocked the maid’s hand away. “I hate being pointed at. I let it slide with others, but you? You’re not even worth it. Do it again and I’ll cut that finger off myself.”
The maid was stunned by Serena’s aura, her face turning pale as she stood frozen in the doorway, eyes filled with fear and regret.
Most Eastlyn women were delicate and slender, and right now the maid did look a little pitiful—almost enough to make someone feel sorry for her. But Serena was a woman herself, and she didn’t have the luxury of being softhearted.
“Tell Su Wan: if she wants to show off, she can do it in Southern Lyn. Here in Eastlyn, she’ll follow our rules. If she wants my treatment, bring a thousand taels of gold—and come to Feng Manor herself.”
With that, Serena didn’t say another word and strode outside, leaving Imperial Physician Sun and the others staring at each other in shock.
The imperial physicians wiped the cold sweat from their brows. Serena Feng was just too fierce. But with someone taking the lead, Sun Zhengdao and the others didn’t linger either—they packed up and followed her out.
Actually, Su Wan had brought her own doctor, but unfortunately, that doctor broke his leg this morning, lost too much blood, and still hadn’t woken up.
Of course, that wasn’t Sun Zhengdao’s problem. All he knew was that he was exhausted, he’d done what the Emperor asked, and now he could finally rest. He couldn’t help but admire Serena’s quick thinking.
How did a military general end up with such a clever daughter? Sun Zhengdao just couldn’t figure it out.
“Serena Feng, stop right there!” Seeing things going south, Su Wan’s maid lifted her skirt and chased after Serena. She moved so quickly there was nothing pitiful about her—three steps and she blocked Serena’s path. Serena smiled sweetly. “What else do you want to say, miss?”
Say something? She didn’t dare. Forced to bow her head, Su Wan’s maid bit her lip and lowered her gaze. “Miss Feng, I’m sorry. I spoke out of turn. Please don’t hold it against me, and forgive my careless mistake.”
The maid was panting from running, and now, having to humble herself before Serena, her pretty face flushed a deep, almost alarming red.
