Chapter 642: Sea Chart

"Accidents... who can really predict them?" Lin Yun rolled up the blueprint and tucked it back into his spatial ring. "But think about it—a schematic for a Sky Rank alchemical array, with a cryptic note about this thing, specifically mentioning it should be handed to Redbeard. Aren't you at least a little curious...?"

Andefa fell silent for a moment. He had to admit, Lin Yun had a point. That thing was definitely important—maybe even related to how the Dauntless became a ghost ship, or to that monster. If he just let it slip by, Andefa knew he'd never forgive himself...

"Alright..."

They made their way straight to the First Mate’s quarters without any detours, ignoring everything else along the way. Occasionally, they’d run into low-level undead spawned from the slaves, but Xiu Ban dispatched them with ease.

When they arrived at the door to the First Mate’s room, the difference was immediately obvious.

The door to the First Mate’s quarters stood over six meters tall, not just two finely carved wooden doors, but crafted from the heartwood of a tree spirit. Alchemical wards had been fused into the wood itself, making it a stark contrast to the rooms they'd seen before.

It took a few minutes to break the alchemical wards. With a gentle push, the doors swung open.

A surge of magical energy rippled out, startling even Lin Yun.

What greeted them was a vast expanse, spanning several miles. There was land, but instead of a flat floor, it was a low, rolling hill. Sparse, withered grass still clung to the earth here and there.

On the highest hill, there stood a pitch-black castle.

"This damned first mate's quarters are ridiculously extravagant. Forget the land—he even built a castle in here, and I bet it's all made of obsidian!"

Anderson smacked his lips. Just looking at this ruined place, you could tell how lavish the first mate used to be.

This isn't dry land, where you can build whatever you want. This is the USS Dauntless—bringing in soil here is a challenge, and building materials have to meet strict standards. Ordinary bricks and stones can't just be placed aboard the Dauntless.

Even without getting close, Anderson could tell that creating this environment must've come at a tremendous cost.

Andefa took a deep breath, visibly moved.

Anderson took a deep breath, visibly moved.

On this damned ghost ship, most rooms are completely devoid of magic. The few that have any, it's so thin it's almost insulting.

Constant fighting had already drained them, and after running into that monster, Anderson's magic reserves were less than half their usual level.

It made Andefa feel deeply unsafe.

It made Anderson feel deeply unsafe.

The moment he stepped inside, Andefa greedily activated the Arcane Wheel, drawing magical energy from the air and storing it in the elemental amber.

Leon kept tossing out Wizard's Eyes, each probing for magic, life, and undead signatures.

Absolutely no danger!

Even the hardiest weeds were barely clinging to life, dotting the ground like scabs.

"No undead detected, no life signs either. The magic scan didn't show anything unusual. Clearly, this first mate knew how to enjoy himself—he didn't fill his room with weird traps or nonsense."

"Let's split up and see if we can find anything useful."

Leon’s words made everyone relax. Even Reina, the Frost Dragon who rarely showed emotion, couldn’t help but look a little relieved.

No danger, not even a low-level skeleton. Plus, there was magic flowing in this room. All they had to do was search for clues or valuables—by Dauntless standards, this was the easiest, safest task imaginable.

The first mate’s castle was huge, and anyone could see it was built for comfort and luxury, with hardly any defenses.
