In Cahoots

1/4/2026

Emma Yin listened to Helen Jiang and immediately nodded vigorously.

A malicious glint flashed in her eyes.

She would never allow Cecilia Gu to outshine her!

Cecilia Gu entered the lounge with Wendy, who clung tightly to today’s donation item, refusing to let go.

This item absolutely couldn’t be allowed to go missing.

It was about to be publicly displayed and signed for at the donation ceremony.

If anything happened to it, it would be a slap in the face to the Yin Family.

Wendy understood how important this item was, so she kept it with her at all times.

Cecilia Gu lay back in the massage chair, letting out a comfortable sigh. “Dragging this huge belly around everywhere is truly the ultimate test of endurance. If the doctor hadn’t insisted that I stay active at this stage for a smoother delivery, I wouldn’t step foot outside! Just watching other people walk in six-inch heels makes me feel exhausted!”

Wendy was amused by Cecilia’s complaint. “Young Madam, you’re just not used to it yet. I heard the CEO’s wife at Haomiao Corporation was still wearing sky-high heels to events when she was eight months pregnant.”

Hearing Cecilia’s playful words, Wendy couldn’t help but laugh too.

Just then, there was a knock on the door, followed by a voice from outside: "Cecilia, I heard you’re resting here. Can I come in?"

It was Helen Jiang.

Cecilia Gu frowned slightly; she truly didn’t want to get involved with this woman.

This woman was like a mad dog, always trying to scratch Cecilia’s face. If Cecilia hadn’t been clever, she wouldn’t have escaped so easily.

Yesterday, she acted like she’d just escaped from an asylum, biting at Cecilia in every way.

So Cecilia shook her head at Wendy, signaling her to refuse.

But before Wendy could speak, Helen Jiang had already pushed the door open and walked in, with Emma Yin following behind.

Cecilia didn’t care for either of them.

How did these two end up together?

Didn’t Emma Yin just return from Norway yesterday?

How did she end up hanging out with Helen Jiang so soon?

Well, both of them seem to have a case of paranoia. Even if someone just walks past them, they think that person wants to kill them!

Cecilia was speechless about their paranoia.

Seeing the two women enter without permission, Wendy stepped forward and said, "Ladies, Young Madam isn’t feeling well. If it’s nothing urgent, please come back another time."

But Helen Jiang and Emma Yin weren’t about to leave so easily now that they were here.

Helen Jiang pinched her thigh hard, tears welling up in her eyes as she looked at Cecilia. "Cecilia, I came to apologize for yesterday! It was my fault. My brother and mother already talked to me when I got home. I really know I was wrong!"

Helen Jiang saw a teacup on the table, quickly picked it up, and hurried over to Cecilia.

Her movements were so abrupt that Wendy worried the tea would spill on Cecilia, so she stepped forward to block—

Helen Jiang immediately put on a startled face and splashed the tea on herself!

Splash—Helen Jiang’s dress was instantly soaked.

Cecilia was stunned.

She saw Helen Jiang rush over, seemingly intent on splashing her.

But how did she end up soaking herself instead?

Did this make Helen Jiang realize her mistake?

Oh no, no, no!

That idea is way too naive!!

How could Helen Jiang possibly realize her mistake and seriously change?

She’d only pretend to admit her fault, while secretly becoming even more vicious and resentful.

Wendy was stunned, too. She hadn’t expected Helen Jiang to soak herself.

Helen Jiang was an important figure today!

At the banquet later, Helen Jiang was supposed to go on stage with Shang Ke and present the donated items to the ladies.

Now that she’s soaked, how is she supposed to go on stage?

Helen Jiang immediately put on a panicked face. "Oh no, what should I do? I only brought this one dress! The presentation with Shang Ke is about to start, and my dress…"

Cecilia, feeling soft-hearted, immediately told Wendy, "Give me the item. Go help her dry off."

No matter how much Helen Jiang schemed against her, she was still a Jiang, representing the Jiang Family.

Out of respect for the Jiang Family, Cecilia couldn’t just stand by and do nothing.

If Helen Jiang lost face, the Yin Family’s reputation would suffer too.

That’s why Cecilia asked Wendy to help her.

Of course, Cecilia didn’t expect Helen Jiang to be grateful.

As long as she keeps her distance, Cecilia would be thankful enough!

Wendy carefully handed the box to Cecilia and bent down to help Helen Jiang wipe off the tea stains.

Seeing an opportunity, Emma Yin immediately said to Cecilia, "Sister-in-law, let me hold it for you."

Cecilia looked at Emma Yin warily. "No need. I’m too heavy to help Helen wipe off the tea, so you go help her instead. Since you came together, it’s most appropriate for you to help."

Emma Yin saw Cecilia wasn’t falling for it and started to get anxious.

Helen Jiang saw Cecilia wasn’t fooled, and quickly said, "Oh no, my watch! It’s a limited edition, and I’m not sure if it’s waterproof. If it breaks on stage, I’ll be so embarrassed! Cecilia, let me borrow your watch for a bit. Don’t worry, I’ll give it back afterwards. I just don’t want to embarrass the Jiang Family. You’re right, the Jiang and Yin Families are connected—if one flourishes, so does the other, and if one suffers, so does the other! You wouldn’t just watch me embarrass myself, would you? It’s just a watch, I’ll only borrow it for a while."

Emma Yin seized the chance and said, "Yeah, sister-in-law, don’t be so stingy! Our Yin Family would never leave someone in trouble, especially since we’re family!"

Family, my foot!

What kind of family sets you up like this?

But today is New Year’s Day—letting Helen Jiang lose face like this really isn’t appropriate.

Besides, everyone knows Helen Jiang is secretly here for a blind date with Shang Ke.

Everyone knows the Shang Family only paired Shang Ke with Helen Jiang to please the Yin Family.

If Cecilia really ignored her, Helen Jiang would definitely be embarrassed today.

That would drag down both the Jiang and Yin Families, and the Shang Family, as hosts, would lose face too.

What should she do?

Oh well, it’s just a watch.

She had plenty of watches, including several limited editions, so she might as well give Helen one.

Thinking this, Cecilia set the box aside and unfastened her watch.

Seeing Cecilia let go, Emma Yin rushed over and blocked the spot beside Cecilia with her body. "Sister-in-law, let me help you! Thank you so much today. Otherwise, Helen would have been embarrassed for sure. No matter what, we’re family. At times like this, we have to present a united front, right?"

Hearing this, Cecilia didn’t know how to respond.

The other side had already said all the nice things—what else could she say?

While Cecilia wasn’t paying attention, Emma Yin swapped out the gift box beside her.

Then, holding the watch, she pretended to return to Helen Jiang’s side, took Helen’s hand and said, "Looks like this dress is ruined. Good thing I brought an extra one just in case. Our figures are similar, so why not wear mine?"

Helen Jiang knew Emma Yin had succeeded, and her face was full of smug satisfaction.

"Great, then I won’t be polite! Cecilia, we’ll be off now. See you later!" Helen Jiang echoed, then left the lounge with Emma Yin.

Wendy, still holding the napkin she’d used to wipe up the tea, stared in shock as they hurried out. She couldn’t help but turn to Cecilia and say, "Young Madam, what are they up to?"
