Too Cold

1/4/2026

Why is he still upset?

Oh, right—it must've been how I phrased it that made him feel overlooked.

So Lucia Lu changed her tune: "Actually, it wasn't that 'casual.' I guess I subconsciously thought you'd never seen a Luminous Golden Chalice Bloom, so I picked that one for you."

That was the truth.

Sean Shaw said nothing and turned to leave.

His figure quickly disappeared into the hazy moonlight.

He still seems upset...

Sigh!

I just wanted to clear things up and get some peace of mind.

But somehow, I feel even less at ease now.

The next morning when she saw him, he was sitting upright up front, eyes fixed on his book.

He was radiating coldness—so much that none of the Divine Maidens dared go up and ask him anything.

He wasn't like this yesterday!

No matter who asked him something, he'd always answer patiently. Sometimes he'd even laugh along with everyone—he used to seem so much more cheerful.

By evening, she took the initiative to find Sean Shaw.

Sean opened the door and saw her, paused for a moment, then asked, "You came to see me?"

"I'm here to go with you to my brother's place," Lucia Lu said.

His tone softened just a little: "Let's go."

On the way, Lucia Lu told him, "Fifth Highness, honestly, I'm really glad I met you."

Sean Shaw's steps faltered. He looked at her, his eyes lighting up, a little shy.

Lucia Lu also stopped, earnestly saying, "We haven't known each other long, but in my heart, I see you as a really important friend! Just like Adrian Drake—like my senior brothers!"

The light in his eyes slowly faded. He lowered his gaze, said nothing, and walked away.

Lucia Lu stared at him in confusion.

She said all that, and he's still not happy?

This went on for days.

Every night, she worked with him to purge Ryan Lu's demonic qi, and he pretty much didn't say a word.

He'd finish extracting the demonic qi and just leave.

Lucia Lu tried to make small talk, but nine times out of ten, he'd ignore her.

After a while, she even started to get a little anxious about being alone with him.

He was just way too frosty.

That day, there was finally just a wisp of demonic qi left—they only needed to do what they'd always done to get rid of it completely.

Lucia Lu couldn't wait to finish the job, just so she wouldn't have to face Sean Shaw's icy expression anymore.

So she pushed herself extra hard, pulling out twice as much demonic qi as usual.

But she overdid it, and when they finished, she felt totally drained.

Plus, with the incense burning in the room, she ended up dozing off at the table without even realizing it.

Half-asleep, she sensed something dangerous approaching.

She suddenly opened her eyes.

And saw Sean Shaw.

He was sitting beside her, eyes filled with a strong... possessive vibe.

Lucia Lu suddenly felt a hot jolt inside, her eyes wide as she sat up and asked, "Is it done?"

"Mm." Sean Shaw lowered his gaze, and when he looked up again, he was cold as ever.

"Is it completely gone?"

"All gone."

"That's awesome!" Lucia Lu grinned. "Thank you so much, Fifth Highness!"

He stood up and said coolly, "Let's go."

Lucia Lu nodded and stood up too.

As she stood, she realized someone had draped a cloak over her shoulders.

It wasn't Ryan Lu's.

She picked up the cloak. "Is this... yours?"

Sean Shaw took it from her without a word and stowed it in his Storage Pouch.

The two of them walked out together.

They didn't say a word the whole way.

When they reached Lucia Lu's place, she stopped and thanked him again: "Fifth Highness, thank you for helping my brother with the demonic qi! Seriously, thank you so much!"

Sean Shaw didn't reply.

"Well... I'll head in first," she said, pointing at her room.

"Lucia Lu." Sean Shaw called out.

She stopped and looked back at him.
