This Is Definitely a Tragedy

This is definitely a tragedy.

Because she could tell that Cecilia Chen truly liked Evan Xiao.

......

Grace returned to her room, took the remaining bit of incense into her Dimensional Bracelet, broke off a piece, ground it into powder, and placed it on a piece of paper, wanting to figure out what it was made of.

Testing for poison, smelling, tasting... Grace used every method a healer could think of. Yet, she found herself completely unable to identify what this incense was made of.

She was an eighth-rank Spiritual Alchemist, and yet she couldn't tell what was in this stick of incense. That in itself was highly suspicious.

After thinking it over, she decided to try it herself.

She lit the incense, brought it close to her nose, and took a deep breath.

It smelled a bit like fresh grass, very faint.

After that one whiff, she quickly snuffed out the incense—no way was she wasting something this mysterious.

Then, she quietly waited for half an hour.

However, there wasn’t any sort of emotional reaction at all.

She picked up the piece of paper, frowned at the powder on it, and thought, did she get it wrong?

So this wasn’t the culprit behind Evan Xiao climbing over the wall to sleep with her in her previous life. It was just a rather unusual incense stick?

......

"Little Fish!" Just then, a voice called out from outside.

It was Cecilia Chen.

Little Fish was lost in thought. Startled by the shout, she fumbled and dropped the paper, scattering the tiny pile of powder right onto her chest.

"Little Fish! Are you there?" Cecilia Chen called again, her voice tinged with tears.

"Here! Here! Hang on!" Little Fish frantically brushed the powder off her clothes, popped out of her Dimensional Bracelet, and hurried to open the door.

Cecilia Chen entered, looking devastated with red, swollen eyes.

"Miss Cecilia," Little Fish called out. "Is something up?"

"Little Fish!" Cecilia Chen suddenly hugged her and burst into tears.

"Miss Cecilia, what happened?" Grace asked.

"Little Fish, I don't want to live anymore!" Cecilia Chen sobbed.

"Don't say that..." Grace knew exactly why she was crying so bitterly.

"Tell me, why doesn't he want me?" Cecilia Chen cried, her tears falling like rain. "I don't even need to be his wife, just a concubine—why won't he have me? Am I not pretty enough?"

"You are very beautiful, truly," Grace said sincerely.

From Grace's perspective, Cecilia Chen's looks could easily rank in the top ten in all of Danyang City.

So beautiful, and a Spirit Practitioner too, yet Evan Xiao still doesn't like her?

He wouldn’t even accept her as a concubine.

......

"Then why doesn’t he want me?"

"Well... if you ask me, he really does see you as a sister," Grace comforted her. "It’s not easy for him to suddenly change how he feels."

"But I’m not his real sister!" Cecilia Chen protested. "I’ve lived in the General’s Manor for five years, and I’ve never thought of him as a brother!"

Grace had no idea what to say, so she just grabbed a handkerchief and handed it over, hoping for the best.

Cecilia Chen grabbed her hand: "Little Fish, you saved my life and restored my looks. They say if you save someone, you should see it through to the end—help me one more time, please?"

"How am I supposed to help?" Grace asked, confused.

Cecilia Chen whispered a few words in her ear.

"What? No way! If you do that, the General will kill me!" Grace shook her head frantically.

"I promise, you just let me in and I’ll say I snuck in while you weren’t looking. I won’t drag you into it, I swear," Cecilia Chen said.

"Miss Cecilia!" Grace frowned. "You know how the General is. I’m just a servant—how could I dare do something like that? He would definitely—Hey! Miss Cecilia, what are you doing!"
