I Have Always Been Sensible

"General, do you know how many hearts you've broken in Yan City since the Imperial Edict granted you that marriage?" Queenie Zhu hinted coyly.

Evan Xiao's face remained expressionless.

"The general's heroic presence is truly unforgettable," Queenie Zhu gazed at him with longing. "Ever since the misunderstanding between our Zhu and Xiao families was resolved, I've always felt for you—"

"Queenie Zhu," Grace called out, stepping forward.

Queenie's eyes darkened, but she forced a smile. "Grace, where did you go? How could you leave the general alone in the garden?"

Grace smiled and said, "I know ever since the misunderstanding between our families was cleared up, you've always been grateful to the general, worried I might not treat him well."

She stepped in front of Evan Xiao and said, "But the general is my fiancé, and also our Zhu family's benefactor. Of course I'll treat him well, so you can rest assured!"

Queenie's expression soured. She'd just been about to confess to Evan Xiao—she hadn't even gotten to the main point!

Why did Grace have to show up at this exact moment?

"General, let's go!" Grace called to Evan Xiao and left with him.

"Why didn't you let her finish?" Evan Xiao asked. "I wouldn't mind teaching her a lesson for you."

"Some things are better left unsaid," Grace replied. "We're still family, and with Grandpa and Grandma around, it's best not to make a scene."

Evan Xiao glanced at her, "You're getting more and more sensible."

Grace: "I've always been sensible."

......

After all that drama, Grace suddenly realized her second uncle and aunt had been living in their house for quite a while.

Since she was hardly ever home, she asked the nanny, "Have my second uncle and his family gone out to look for a house since they arrived?"

The nanny whispered, "Miss Grace, it's been months since Second Master and Second Madam arrived, and they haven't even tried! Madam treats them like honored guests, giving them the best food and drink every day. They sure seem comfortable!"

They haven't looked for a house?

So what exactly are they planning?

Early the next morning, Grace went to greet her grandparents.

Ever since arriving in Yan City, her grandparents had excused them from daily greetings, letting everyone mind their own business.

But as far as Grace knew, her second aunt and Queenie still went to greet the old lady every day, acting oh-so dutiful.

Sure enough, when she arrived, the two of them were there again.

The old lady asked her lots of questions about her recent life, and Grace answered them all.

Then Grace asked, "Second Aunt, how's the house-hunting going?"

Aunt Leah replied, "We're looking! Just haven't found the right one yet."

"I went out yesterday to check on some properties and found one for sale that's perfect for you. Great location, just the right size—why don't you go take a look?"

Aunt Leah raised her eyebrows and said sarcastically, "Oh? Is Grace trying to kick us out?"

"Second Aunt, what do you mean by that? I was just trying to help. Looks like I was mistaken?" Grace's face darkened slightly.

"Oh, come on! I was just joking, why so serious?" Aunt Leah knew Grace's temper—if she pushed too far, Grace might really kick them out. So she quickly smiled and said, "It's just that now the Emperor has granted your marriage to the general, and you'll have to start preparing for your wedding. I'm worried your mother won't be able to handle everything alone, so I wanted to stay and help her out."

"Second Uncle and Aunt just arrived in Yan City with the whole family, you have plenty of your own things to take care of," Grace said. "My wedding isn't until next year—there's still plenty of time! No need for you to worry yourself over it."

Aunt Leah's face turned a little ugly.
