Why Are You Still Alive

12/19/2025

Three months later, Joe Di stood outside a Void Vortex, following the coordinates given to him by Jade Vaughn. After repeated confirmation, Joe Di was certain this place was no longer Jade Vaughn's world, and he found nothing amiss.

After confirming there was no problem, Joe Di stepped into the vortex without hesitation.

Billions of miles away, Jade Vaughn stared at the formation monitoring screen. He watched as Joe Di, without deploying any defensive measures, leapt straight into the Void Vortex, and shook his head with a sigh. Now, he was certain Joe Di possessed a Saintly Physique; otherwise, even with a top-tier world, he would never dare jump in like that.

It seemed wise not to have made a mortal enemy of Joe Di. The void is endless, and the universe holds countless realms. It may appear unlikely for two people to meet again, but that only applies to ordinary cultivators.

For some top-tier cultivators, once their cultivation reaches a certain level, no matter how vast the universe, it inevitably becomes smaller in their eyes. Because at that point, they all head to one place.

To offend a powerhouse like Joe Di, and then encounter him in that place in the future, would be anything but wise.

The moment Joe Di entered the Void Vortex, he felt the terrifying force of void rending. A spatial dislocation, almost without a trace, tore across his waist. Instinctively, Joe Di unleashed the Loom of Ages.

In a fleeting moment, the Loom of Ages wove a barrier of time. The spatial dislocation stalled for less than half a breath under the shield of time, and Joe Di seized the instant to break free.

Bang! Joe Di fell heavily to the ground, knowing he had been flung out by the Void Vortex. His waist had been nearly torn apart by the spatial dislocation. If the Loom of Ages had been even a fraction slower, he would have been severed in two.

No matter how strong one's physique, against such terrifying spatial dislocation, it is useless. To have half his body severed in the Void Vortex would be a fatal blow to Joe Di's Dao.

His Dao had not yet reached the level where it could transcend the body. Losing half his physical form would make it nearly impossible to repair his Dao. The flesh swept away by the Void Vortex was almost certainly lost forever. These vortices traverse countless realms and planes—any lost body would be shredded to nothingness by the chaotic void, and even if it remained intact, it could never be found again.

After swallowing a few Prime Dao Pills, Joe Di's body quickly recovered. Though he looked miserable, it actually had little effect on him.

Joe Di sat up, wanting to see where he had landed, when a surprised voice called out, "Oh, it's you... How did you end up here?"

The speaker was a woman dressed in black, her face veiled. Yet her beauty could not be concealed by her attire.

Joe Di wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth and stood up. He recognized this black-clad woman; she had once approached him in the Dao Fruit Tower plaza at the Void Market to ask about the Origin Prime Pill. Joe Di only knew her surname was Nie.

Back then, when Joe Di first met her, she seemed to be at the late or perfected stage of the Prime Realm, certainly not yet at the Genesis Realm. Now, she was still at the Prime Realm.

"Miss Nie, what do you need from me?" Joe Di had once been wary of her, but now he felt no concern at all.

"Miss Nie..." The black-clad woman repeated the words with a hint of self-mockery, then regained her composure. "Last time I couldn't discern your cultivation, and this time I still can't. You must have a powerful concealment technique, right? You said you could refine Origin Prime Pills before—I thought you were boasting, but later I wanted to find you, only to discover you had already left."

Joe Di chuckled, "It's nothing. I'm leaving now."

"My name is Nina Swan. I heard people say you're Joe Di, is that right?" Nina Swan blocked Joe Di's way.

Joe Di replied calmly, "That's right, my name is Joe Di. What do you want from me? If you're looking for an Origin Prime Pill, then since fate has brought us together, I can sell you one."

Nina Swan smiled slightly. "I don't want an Origin Prime Pill. I want you to help me with something else."

Joe Di waved his hand. "Sorry, I'm not in the mood to help you, nor do I have the time. I have plenty of my own matters to attend to."

Nina Swan remained unhurried. "Your concealment technique is impressive, but any cultivator with higher cultivation can sense your youthful aura. No matter how strong a young cultivator is, there's a limit. Besides, do you know where you are? Without my help, you truly can't leave."

Joe Di laughed. "Whether you couldn't discern my cultivation last time or this time, it's not because I'm hiding my skills—it's simply because your cultivation is lacking. As for me, I go wherever I wish, without concern for others' approval."

Before Joe Di's laughter faded, a lazy voice sounded, "Actually, Nina got one thing wrong. Whether she helps you or not, you can't leave. My approval is something you must heed, whether you want to or not."

Nina Swan's expression changed dramatically at the sound of the voice.

A gold-robed man stepped out of the void, standing before Joe Di, then continued, "Because you've entered my territory—the Thunder Sound Forbidden Zone. This place used to be unclaimed, but I marked it as mine. By the way, my name is Finn Brooks, from Thunder Sound Valley. I just stepped into the Creation Realm a century ago..."

"Is the Creation Realm so impressive?" Joe Di chuckled, suddenly reaching out to grab Finn Brooks by the throat.

Seeing Joe Di dare to attack, Finn Brooks was furious. Nina Swan was his captive, and this place was where he kept her. Now, a stranger had barged in and dared to make a move on him. If Finn Brooks didn't make this intruder regret ever living, all his cultivation would be for nothing...

Nina Swan sighed and slowly closed her eyes. Joe Di was no ordinary cultivator—how many could refine an Origin Prime Pill in the Void Market? Yet before Joe Di could truly grow, he encountered Finn Brooks.

Finn Brooks' rage suddenly froze, and terror appeared in his eyes. In that instant, all his Dao Rhyme seemed to lose its foundation; even time itself stalled for him. All he could do was watch helplessly as Joe Di's handprint reached for him.

He was a Realm Creator—a cultivator of the Creation Realm...

Crack! Finn Brooks heard the sound of his own neck breaking, followed by the collapse of his soul. Despite his status as a Realm Creator, under Joe Di's handprint, he hadn't even a chance to resist.

Joe Di sighed, "Compared to Jade Vaughn, you're not even a speck. Yet you dare put on airs in front of me. By the way, my name is Joe Di—remember it."

With those words, Joe Di tightened his grip, and Finn Brooks—once a proud Realm Creator—was crushed to dust by Joe Di's Dao-infused handprint.

"You..." Nina Swan stared at Joe Di in shock. After several breaths, she suddenly knelt before him, knowing this was her last chance.

How many times in her life could she meet people like Ning City and Joe Di? She was already luckier than most.

Joe Di said calmly, "If you need my help, just say so. My time is limited."

Nina Swan didn't hesitate, speaking quickly, "Brother Joe, when I tried to step into the Third Step, my cultivation was burned away and I fell back. The second time I tried, it happened again... The reason is that, for the sake of my Dao, I once betrayed the person I loved most. He saved me many times, and even that time, he was searching for me for my safety, but I used his search to set him up..."

Joe Di looked at Nina Swan kneeling before him and sighed, "If that's the case, why are you still alive?"

Hearing Joe Di's words, Nina Swan was stunned. Then, as if she understood something, she raised her hand and struck her own forehead.
