Cooking Soup to Wash Away Troubles

12/2/2025

Morgan Shangguan frowned and ordered, "Destroy these writings!"

"Yes, Mistress!"

After giving her instructions, Morgan Shangguan sat cross-legged on the bed, closed her eyes, and seemed to be resting.

Not long after, Adrian Yarrow and Mona Shangguan entered, supporting each other. A few little ghosts shook their feet as they watched the pair, snorting, "Why should they live in the room we cleaned?"

Although they disliked the two, and wanted to drive them out, since Morgan Shangguan hadn't spoken, they could only obediently let the pair sit down and rest in the chairs.

Adrian Yarrow glanced at Morgan Shangguan sitting on the bed and frowned. She must hate him now, right? That must be why she was completely ignoring his life and death, just letting him come in to rest.

At this moment, Mona Shangguan could no longer hold on and fainted from exhaustion. In truth, she was simply too tired—she would be fine after a little sleep.

Mona Shangguan woke up from hunger. Adrian Yarrow was also hungry. Searching the room, they found some rice. At the bottom of the cliff was a small stream; Adrian went out to fetch water. Then he and Mona stared at each other—there was rice and water, but both were used to a life of luxury, never having cooked before. Adrian was already doing well just knowing that cooking required water!

After being chased and now falling off a cliff again, Adrian Yarrow was better off thanks to his inner strength. Mona Shangguan, on the other hand, was so weak she could barely move—she really needed to regain her strength, but they couldn't just eat raw rice!

Suddenly remembering something, Mona Shangguan looked at Morgan Shangguan, who still had her eyes closed on the bed, and said bluntly, "Sister, can you cook for us?" Morgan had never been favored in the Prime Minister's residence, and often had to do things herself!

Hearing this, Adrian Yarrow also glanced at Morgan Shangguan, but Morgan showed no reaction at all.

Mona Shangguan saw her like this and couldn't help but scowl. "Sister, Prince Adrian only took you as a hostage because he had no choice. Besides, he hasn't hurt you! Even if you're angry, you still have to eat, right? Or do you want us all to starve together?"

Morgan opened her eyes and looked at her calmly. She said flatly, "The rice has already gone bad." The rice had grown moldy, and these two didn't even notice, or maybe they thought eating mold wouldn't kill them?

Hearing this, Mona glanced at the rice. It did look strange, even a bit disgusting. She slumped onto the table, her face drawn, and looked at Adrian Yarrow with a miserable expression. "Prince Adrian... what do we do now?"

Adrian Yarrow frowned and said, "I'll go out and see if there's anything to eat!"

Morgan spoke coolly, "Everything outside is poisonous!" The owner of this house must be skilled in poison, so all the plants and animals outside were toxic—and not just mildly toxic, but deadly. Judging by the blackened bones, it was clear that the person here was a poison master, someone who had taken poison for years. Even the rice and stream water were poisoned!

If Adrian Yarrow and Mona Shangguan hadn't taken antidote pills, they would have died the moment they touched those poisonous things!

Adrian Yarrow paused, while Mona looked skeptical. "How do you know?"

Morgan ignored her. She'd said all she needed to say. If Mona insisted on courting death, Morgan couldn't be bothered to stop her.

Adrian Yarrow paused for a moment, then sat down in the chair, his gaze lingering on Morgan. He hadn't forgotten what happened before they fell from the cliff. He hadn't had the energy to think much before, but now, after resting and regaining some strength, his mind began to clear. Perhaps Danmu Li and Danmu Ye hadn't noticed, but he, being close, had seen everything clearly and understood exactly how they had fallen.

That strike had been so swift that even he hadn't seen it clearly, and the force behind it was something he knew he couldn't withstand. Yet Morgan hadn't been hurt at all. When they all fell from the cliff together, he and Mona had been unconscious for so long, but Morgan was perfectly fine. Now, he saw no danger at the bottom of the valley, but she claimed everything outside was poisonous!

It seemed Morgan Shangguan was truly extraordinary. How could someone like her be so easily taken hostage? Could it be... she let it happen on purpose?

Adrian Yarrow's feelings were complicated. Was she trying to save him, and that's why she allowed herself to be taken hostage?

Seeing the tender look in Adrian's eyes, Mona Shangguan gritted her teeth in anger. "Prince Adrian..."

Adrian Yarrow snapped out of it. "What's wrong?"

"My... chest hurts so much..." As soon as she finished speaking, Mona suddenly fainted.

"Mona..."

Adrian quickly laid Mona on the bed. Morgan frowned but said nothing, letting Mona take up half the space.

This couldn't go on. Suddenly, Adrian remembered something. He reached into his robe and pulled out a small porcelain bottle, pouring out the pills inside. Looking at the two pills in his palm, he hesitated. Taking one would ensure three days of energy, enough to search for a way out. But now there were only two pills left—just enough for two people!

Morgan seemed to know what he was thinking. The corners of her lips curled into a faint, almost mocking smile, or perhaps it was emotionless. She said coolly, "I don't need it."

Adrian glanced at her and, seeing that she showed no sign of fatigue, felt slightly relieved. He fed one pill to Mona, then took one himself.

Adrian looked apologetic. "Morgan, I'm sorry. I need to find a way out, and Mona's health is too fragile, so..." He paused, then added, "Don't worry, I won't leave you behind!"

The war between the two kingdoms would likely break out soon, and now was a critical time for manpower. He couldn't afford to alienate the Shangguan family. Mona was their cherished jewel, so nothing could happen to her!

But Morgan had risked herself to save him, so he would take her with them!

Besides, he genuinely didn't want anything to happen to Morgan. And now, she seemed unfathomable—a person worth relying on.

Upon hearing this, Morgan simply smiled faintly and remained silent.

A few little ghosts huddled in the corner, gnashing their teeth in anger. "That wretch!"

"Hmph! Nice words, but he clearly doesn't care about the master's life or death!"
