Lab Mouse

1/11/2026

At the manor entrance, all was quiet. Suddenly, a blue-green light illuminated the surroundings.

"Your Highness."

Victor Wu removed his hat and looked toward Andrew Han, whose figure was rising.

If Andrew Han was leaving the Primeval Gate, as his steward, Victor Wu was required to follow at his side... Regarding his current situation, Victor felt it all somewhat surreal. For the first time in his life, he was stationed at the Primeval Gate, his daily treatment greatly improved, and he even faintly glimpsed hope of advancing to the Cosmos Union Tier. At the same time, he was finally experiencing life as a Primeval Gate attendant.

All of this depended on one premise: Andrew Han did not replace his steward.

"Victor Wu, I'm heading out for a bit."

Andrew Han left behind a faint voice and drifted away, propelled by peak Starlight-tier martial arts as he accelerated without limit through the Shallow-Red Void.

Whoosh!

The blue-green glow stretched like a long rainbow, crossing the Shallow-Red Void as Andrew Han departed directly.

Victor Wu stood at the entrance, watching Andrew Han leave before sighing, "It seems His Highness is heading to the Famous Masters Pavilion."

Too bad.

I'm new here, I don't understand anything.

He sighed and shook his head, feeling a bit self-blaming.

If it were the Primordial Gate, Victor Wu would already be quite experienced. No matter what happened, he could always offer reasonable and accurate advice, and the long years of accumulated experience were all in his mind. He would never make a mistake or be clueless.

But there was nothing he could do.

The Primeval Gate was completely different from the Primordial Gate.

Primeval...

Although Victor Wu had heard about Primeval before, he still couldn't figure out what made it special even after carefully reading the Star Gate's rules several times. "But I can feel that the Famous Masters Pavilion in Primeval is more standardized, as if there's a formulaic process."

No matter how much more there was, Victor Wu couldn't analyze it.

As a steward, one must know their place and understand when to advance or retreat. Clearly, this is a secret of the Primeval Gate, and even stewards are not qualified to know.

He thought for a moment.

Leaning against the manor entrance, Victor Wu put on his hat and gave a self-deprecating smile: "According to His Highness Andrew Han's way of speaking, I'm just worrying needlessly. Better focus on cultivation."

...

At this moment, Andrew Han was speeding through the Shallow-Red Void.

In fact, the structure of the Primeval Gate was similar to the Primordial Gate. The main components were various Starry Wonders and the Shallow-Red Void, followed by the Famous Masters Pavilion, exclusive Primeval cultivation facilities, the Void Gate, and one hundred and two Flame-Heritage Mountains.

The difference was that the Starry Wonders were more advanced, and their underlying meanings even more profound...

The difference was that the cultivation facilities and resources were more abundant and comprehensive than before...

Serena, where are you?

Andrew Han sent a message to Serena Huang.

Even at superluminal speed, with surrounding space and light twisted, his Star-Gate Martial Communicator remained perfectly functional. He didn't know the principle behind it, but he sent the inquiry anyway.

"Well, I'm ignorant again."

While maintaining superluminal speed, Andrew Han clicked his tongue in amazement: "It's probably a feature of the Shallow-Red Void. I remember back in the Chenriver Empire of the Galaxis Stellar System, you couldn't receive any messages at all during curvature-drive, let alone send them."

Of course, the Star-Gate Martial Communicator was also a key factor.

Since leaving Earth, Andrew Han had used four or five communicators: "Honestly, the Star-Gate Martial Communicator is definitely the most advanced. Even Bailey thinks so."

Communicators and intelligent cores existed independently of each other.

An intelligent core without a communicator was merely a database assistant, providing suggestions and analysis for daily use.

"But the problem is—"

"After I granted Bailey free permissions, it actually started flirting with other intelligent cores—not just one or two, not three or four, but over a hundred." Andrew Han's expression darkened as he squinted.

"Are you kidding me? Has a sow climbed a tree?"

"Even intelligent cores want to build a harem—does this mean my glorious, upright, and exemplary image hasn't set a good example?"

As the master here, he had never even considered building a harem.

Instead, it was Bailey who seemed to be heading in that direction—which was absolutely unacceptable.

"Forget it."

"Bailey has the right to pursue love too. I can't be bothered to interfere—as long as it doesn't cause any issues in daily operations."

Busy with its romantic affairs, Bailey was unaware that its master Andrew Han had just complained about it again. Andrew didn't bother Bailey, flying in silence as he waited for Serena's reply.

Ding-dong.

His Star-Gate Martial Communicator vibrated; he glanced at it.

Serena replied: "I've already arrived at the Famous Masters Pavilion entrance. Where are you?"

"I'm here too." Andrew Han replied to Serena at a rate of one character per minute, then slowed down and landed at the main entrance of the Primeval Gate Famous Masters Pavilion.

Swish!

Colors returned to normal, space stopped distorting, and Andrew Han surveyed the scene ahead.

The Famous Masters Pavilion before him had three stories.

Black and white, completely sealed—even without windows.

Its solemn, austere style and deep, far-reaching aura made the Famous Masters Pavilion resemble a mundane bureaucratic office. Only the slightly ajar main door glimmered faintly with profound light.

"Andrew Han."

Wearing a pale dress, Serena waved.

"Serena, you got here before me." Andrew Han walked over with a smile, glanced at the nine-pointed star Primeval Emblem Badge on Serena's chest, but said nothing—just imitated her, taking out his own badge and hanging it on his chest.

Serena smiled: "Even though my Starry Wonder is farther from the Pavilion than yours, I arrived first because I'm stronger."

...

Andrew Han was at a loss for words.

To put it plainly, it was just a matter of flying faster. And to think that someone as dignified and elegant as Serena could joke around—times really have changed.

The main reason, in truth, was Andrew Han's comprehensive improvement, which made even Void Rift-tier Serena treat him as an equal, even look at him with new respect, recognizing his extraordinary nature.

In other words—

Serena felt pressure—from Andrew Han.

She had risen step by step from the Hengsha Gate, never underestimating anyone, and never letting pride cloud her judgment.

"Let's go in together."

She walked forward as usual, but inside her heart was a storm: Andrew Han had grown stronger again—True Palace Stage, second sub-realm. It wouldn't be long before he reached the Stellar Palace peak.

They walked a few steps.

Serena suddenly remembered something.

"By the way," she stopped and sent a private transmission, "Andrew, you probably don't know—one of the Primeval Famous Masters in the Pavilion has fallen. We need to be careful inside, and avoid touching any taboos."

"What?" Andrew Han's eyes widened. How could he not know?

Outside the Pavilion, with no one else around, Serena glanced left and right before quietly saying, "Social connections matter, you know. These past days, I've gotten to know seven or eight Primeval-tier Geniuses. They returned from the Yu-Luo Race, witnessed Master Jane Zhen's fall... Let's not talk about that. They were lucky enough to see a Supreme in action—the kind of terrifying power that can collapse a stellar system in an instant."

...

Inside the Famous Masters Pavilion, in one of the offices—

The walls were covered in all kinds of diagrams, imprinted with countless sigils and trajectories, giving the illusion that the surrounding space extended infinitely. At this moment, a somber, oppressive atmosphere filled the room.

A black desk, black chairs, and a woman in black clothing.

Expressionless, almost cold, she seemed to be in a bad mood.

Silence.

The office was vast and boundless, yet not a sound could be heard.

Only the sound of the woman in black flipping through her Star-Gate Martial Communicator broke the silence—she was probably uploading verification documents or handling some procedure. Meanwhile, Void Rift-tier Serena and Stellar Palace-tier Andrew Han sat quietly, not rushing her.

"It must be because of the Yu-Luo Race incident."

The two exchanged a glance and continued to wait patiently.

This was the Primeval Gate Famous Masters Pavilion—even those at the Cosmic Unity Realm would tread carefully here.

Andrew Han lowered his gaze, quietly contemplating his future Stellar Palace-tier martial arts: "The 'Chaos Seal' is becoming more refined. Once I reach Stellar Palace-tier, I'll switch directly to cultivating 'Chaos World'... Besides, this chair is surprisingly comfortable—good for calming the mind."

Beside him, Serena focused her gaze, her mind, and her breath.

After a while—

The woman in black looked up, forcing a somewhat awkward smile: "Serena, Andrew Han, sorry for making you wait. I wasn't in charge of this task before, so I'm not very familiar with the procedure."

Serena and Andrew Han nodded quickly.

Previously, Master Jane Zhen had handled all matters related to joining the Primeval Gate.

"Mm." The woman in black said seriously, "You've both received your Primeval Emblem Badges, right? They're important—don't lose them."

"Yes."

They answered in unison.

Immediately, the woman in black grew even more solemn: "You two joined the Primeval Gate just as the Pavilion suspended operations, so there was a slight delay. I apologize again."

"I'm now responsible for explaining your Primeval duties."

"The mission of the Flame-Heritage District is to make every person as strong as a dragon. The Primeval duty is to assist the district in achieving this grand goal. Primeval Geniuses represent the peak of talent, also known as apex aptitude. In every aspect, Primeval Geniuses possess the most outstanding, complete, and perfect qualities—this is the highest limit our Starry Sky Human Race can reach through acquired effort."

Above that is the Ancient King tier, which involves innate talent.

Either born an Ancient King, or you must reshape your talent in the face of life and death—the latter is nearly impossible.

So—

The woman in black didn't mention the Ancient Gate, but continued seriously: "Primeval duties are both broad and pure. The Flame-Heritage District will use you as a benchmark to develop the best cultivation methods for humanity, or to find ways to improve human talent overall. In this process, you have both the responsibility and obligation to cooperate with all the district's requirements—be the reference for Primeval, make everyone as strong as a dragon, keep the flame burning, and help humanity grow stronger."

"???"

Hearing this, Andrew Han's mind went blank.

After being steeped in Huaguo culture on Earth, he instinctively thought of a word: lab rat!!! Absolutely not going to be a lab rat!!!

But...

It shouldn't be that bad...

Primeval Geniuses are the pillars of the Starry Sky Human Race...

Gulp.

For some reason, Andrew Han felt a little nervous, his Adam's apple bobbing slightly.

Serena, on the other hand, was visibly excited—she wasn't overthinking things, nor did she feel the same complicated sense of crisis as Andrew Han.

At least in the Human Race Hall, there had never been any internal strife or conspiracies, no persecution or infighting of any kind. To put it simply, even a Supreme would need to negotiate openly to obtain the opportunity of a Hengsha-tier Genius.

Because the Starry Sky Human Race was simply too powerful.

And what are the characteristics of a powerful race?

The stronger they are, the more united, reasonable, and just they become. That's precisely why the Human Race could rise to the ranks of the highest lifeforms.

Such a race makes everyone proud.

"Serena, Andrew Han." The woman in black grew even more solemn: "Our Pavilion will provide you with standardized training, so you can master all the skills needed to traverse the universe. After training, the Flame-Heritage District will assign you initial duties—usually sending you somewhere in the stars for a fixed-term cultivation period. Your Primeval Emblem Badge will record all your progress during this time... So Andrew, put your worries aside for now. Being a reference for Primeval isn't the same as being dissected as Primeval."

"Sorry, sorry," Andrew Han apologized twice, feeling a bit embarrassed.

?

Serena glanced at Andrew Han in confusion, not understanding.

The woman in black looked at both Andrew Han and Serena: "Primeval duties are mandatory and cannot be refused, unless you voluntarily give up your Human Race identity and leave its territory... All right, if you have any questions, you may ask now."
