Evan Lin followed behind the group heading to Brightsea No. 1 High, his steps relaxed as he gazed at the city slumbering in the deep night, his mind drifting endlessly.
When Evan first arrived in Brightsea City, the bustling urban landscape once made him feel completely out of place.
For his mother's sake, Evan had tried to study hard, but his slow nature meant his grades never improved. In class, he faced contemptuous looks from classmates, and at home, he constantly worried about upsetting Lynn Chen and Charles Chen.
All these pressures made Evan's life feel suffocating.
This was Evan's first time walking the streets of Brightsea City so late at night, and he felt a bit dazed inside.
Trailing three steps behind, Yolanda Fang watched Evan's back, growing more convinced that he seemed familiar.
Unconsciously, Yolanda linked Evan with the guy who confessed to Rachel Liu on the playground, only to be knocked down by Buck Niu.
But could that really be possible?
Yolanda shook her head and pushed the idea out of her mind.
With this guy's skills, even a hundred Buck Nius wouldn't be enough to take him down.
Brightsea City General Hospital was in the Southside District, just three blocks away from the Imperial Grand KTV.
The students from Brightsea No. 1 High helped each other as they arrived at the hospital.
Liam Li went to find the nurse on duty at the front desk. The nurse was surprised to see so many injured students and got up to notify the doctors.
Soon, two doctors arrived.
The male doctor looked to be in his thirties, wore white-rimmed glasses, and glanced quickly over everyone in the lobby.
All the injured were boys from Brightsea No. 1 High, looking sickly. The worst off were Simon Li, who had been stomped by Boss Long's men, and Jason Zhao, whose face was beaten to a pulp by Charlie Liang.
The male doctor turned to the female doctor next to him with a gentle smile. "Lucy, their symptoms don't look too serious. You handle these few, and if anything comes up, just ask me."
The male doctor smiled gently at the female doctor standing beside him.
The female doctor had her hair in a ponytail and looked to be just in her twenties.
She wore a white lab coat, but it couldn't hide her impressive curves, especially her beautiful legs in jeans, which made Liam Li and the others stare.
Lucy Lu nodded and looked at the group to her left. "You guys, come with me. The rest of you with more serious injuries, go to Dr. Fang."
With that, Lucy turned and walked toward her office.
"You, you, and you guys—come here, line up, and enter one at a time," Lucy instructed.
Dr. Fang pointed out a few students, then returned to his own office.
The students lined up one by one to get their injuries checked.
Lynn Chen kept supporting Jason Zhao, her face full of concern. "How do you feel now? Any better? Does it still hurt?" she asked.
"I'm much better now; it's nothing, really," Jason Zhao reassured her.
Jason Zhao tried to smile at Lynn Chen, but his swollen face made his grin look more painful than cheerful.
"Let me help you inside. You go first," Lynn said as she guided Jason toward the office.
Jason was badly hurt, so when Lynn Chen supported him toward Dr. Fang's office, no one objected.
All this time, Lynn Chen never once glanced at Evan.
Evan Lin sat in a chair, closed his eyes, and took a deep breath, ready to practice the Grand Dao Qi-Refining Art for a bit.
If not for the mess at Imperial Grand Karaoke Club, Evan would have already broken through to the first layer of qi-refining.
