I Won’t Join the Elite Class

The five of us are your mentors. At Heavenly Dragon Academy, anyone strong enough to earn a Gold Sword badge can be a mentor. And whatever your mentor says—you listen, no questions asked.

Even if they mess up, it doesn’t matter. The academy pulled in a bunch of top-notch students this time. If your Testing Screen flashed yellow, step forward!

Evan Chu was a little pissed. When Jenny Sima said she could take on disciples, was she just bluffing? Her Silver Sword badge meant she was only Earth Martial Realm, second level.

Gus Bullard, Lily Tang, Roxanne Lin, and Evan’s new acquaintance Rhea Yang all stepped up. Evan stayed put—his screen hadn’t flashed yellow. Eleven people in total: three girls, eight boys. And Evan stood alone.

"Students whose screen lit up green, please step forward!"

Only Evan Chu stepped up. Every single person shot him looks full of envy, jealousy, and hate.

Did I just put myself in the spotlight again? I wanted to lay low, but now everyone’s staring at me. Damn, is this a blessing or a curse?

Evan couldn’t help worrying. Fame is trouble—just like a fat pig is begging for the butcher’s knife. Better not stick out too much.

"Students who have mastered an elemental attribute, please step forward!"

This time, twenty people stepped forward—fourteen boys and six girls. Evan Chu was shocked; he hadn’t expected so many to have mastered elemental attributes, while he was still stuck at the threshold, not even knowing what his own attribute was.

The students who stepped forward are the most outstanding. They can directly enter the ordinary class. Those whose screen lit up green can directly enter the elite class.

Those who didn’t make it into the ordinary class, don’t lose heart. Every year the academy holds a selection. As long as you work hard, maybe next time you’ll be the one entering the ordinary or elite class!

The speaker was the woman who looked about twenty-five or twenty-six.

Seeing Gus and the others directly enter the ordinary class, many students felt dissatisfied. But after hearing the beautiful mentor’s words, hope returned, and suddenly everyone was full of confidence.

When Evan Chu heard he could enter the elite class, he was happy for a moment, but quickly dismissed the idea.

Although the elite class gets more Starstones and better treatment, if I join now, I’ll be the weakest. I’ll get excluded and bullied. The ordinary class is the best choice.

With so many people at Heavenly Dragon Academy, if I join the ordinary class, I’ll probably just be in the middle. That way, I can improve my strength, have goals, and rivals to compete with. Even if I get fewer Starstones, as long as I work hard, I can still break through.

“Beautiful mentor, hello! May I make a request?” Evan Chu suddenly spoke up.

The beautiful mentor glanced at Evan Chu and smiled. “You’re the one whose screen lit up green, right? Very impressive!”

To have such strength at your age, you can directly enter the elite class. That’s something to be proud of. Oh, by the way, what’s your name?”

My name is Evan Chu. Can I not go to the elite class? I want to join the ordinary class! Evan Chu mustered his courage and spoke his mind.

After all, joining the elite class is something countless ordinary students dream of. To have this opportunity and refuse it—am I crazy?

If Jenny Sima were here, she’d probably slap him. This guy really is an idiot.

Evan’s words instantly sparked a storm of discussion among the students. “Is this guy crazy? He could go to the elite class but wants the ordinary class instead? What a damn fool!”

He must have cheated. If he goes to the elite class, his true colors will show and he’ll die a horrible death. Joining the ordinary class is the smartest move.

“Wow, he’s so handsome! Look at his eyes, his eyebrows, his lips—he’s gorgeous! I really like him!” a starry-eyed girl exclaimed.

This Evan Chu really isn’t simple. With his current strength, he can enter the elite class, but he’d definitely be the weakest.

Competition in the elite class is fierce. In that environment, it can mess with your mind and hurt your cultivation.

In the ordinary class, the gap in strength isn’t so big, so competition between students can help him break through. This kind of talent is the real deal—not arrogant, not greedy for fame or profit.

......

Everyone, quiet down. We need to discuss Evan Chu’s request. After all, Heavenly Dragon Academy has never seen this happen before. Take your completed forms and report to your assigned classes!' said the elder who appeared first in the great hall.

Evan Chu didn’t know where to go now. Watching the other students leave, he felt a little lost.

Evan Chu, come with me to see the Dean. For talents like you, we take your requests very seriously, so the Dean must decide!' said the elder.

Gus Bullard and Rhea Yang were assigned to Ordinary Class Three, Roxanne Lin to Ordinary Class Two, and Lily Tang to Ordinary Class One.

The other students who entered an ordinary class were all assigned to Ordinary Class Two. It’s said this class is full of students who’ve mastered elemental attributes—very strong, and many future elite-class students come from here.

Evan Chu followed the elder and soon arrived at a separate courtyard. He saw the middle-aged man from the test, and another elder; the two were focused on playing chess. Zhao Fei and the elder’s arrival didn’t disturb them at all.

Evan Chu knew the rule about not speaking while watching chess, but he was shocked by their playing method—their hands hadn’t moved at all the entire time Zhao Fei watched.

But the chess pieces on the board kept shifting, as if someone was controlling them. They were playing chess using stellar force. When you reach a certain level, you can control stellar force with your mind to do incredible things.

After a while, the chess pieces stopped moving. “Haha! Old Xu, it’s another draw. Your chess skills still haven’t improved!” the middle-aged man laughed at the white-haired elder.

“Marcus Gongsun, you haven’t improved either. Three years, and it’s always a draw—so boring!” The white-haired elder waved his hand, and the chessboard and pieces instantly disappeared.

Evan Chu realized the chessboard had been put into the Dean’s storage belt. So the Vice-Dean is Marcus Gongsun, and the Dean’s surname is Xu, though Evan didn’t know his full name.

“Elder Wayne, why did you bring this student here? Is there something you need?” Dean Xu asked.

Evan Chu was speechless. Isn’t that obvious? Why else would I come here—just for fun? But he could only think this to himself.

“Dean, this student was the top performer in the test. He can directly enter the elite class, but he doesn’t want to. He hopes to stay in an ordinary class, so I brought him to ask for your decision,” Elder Wayne said respectfully.

“Is that so? Marcus Gongsun, what do you think?” Dean Xu’s sharp eyes began to size up Evan Chu.

“I saw his test. He really does qualify for the elite class. Since he doesn’t want to join, he must have his reasons. Why don’t we hear what he has to say?” Marcus Gongsun also looked Evan Chu over.
