Joy Zheng heard Evan Lin's words and couldn't help but find them amusing. In her eyes, no matter how old Evan was, he was still just a kid.
"You say that, but only you believe it. Your master is so busy, and you want to drag him over just to beat people up? What kind of nonsense is that?"
Joy Zheng tapped Evan Lin on the head.
They walked along the road, streetlights casting a dim yellow glow.
As the chilly wind picked up, Evan Lin quietly circulated his energy, forming a barrier in front of Joy Zheng to block all the cold air outside.
When Evan was little, every time it rained hard, Joy Zheng would always shield him with her own body, afraid he'd catch cold from the wind.
They walked this stretch of road, and by the time they reached Mooncrest Manor, snowflakes were drifting down from the sky.
Evan Lin looked up. All he saw was a lonely night, with more and more snow swirling in the moonlight, catching the eye.
"It's snowing."
Evan Lin murmured to himself, his eyes a little dazed.
Glazed Glass Palace sat at a soaring altitude, with snow piled up inside that never melted all year round. Lily Zhao loved standing before Glazed Peak on snowy days, gazing down at the mountains below.
Every time the snow fell, Evan could always sense the loneliness in Lily Zhao's eyes.
It was as if she were waiting for someone, and yet as if she had never waited at all.
"It's late, Evan. Let's go home. Don't stay out here, you'll catch a cold."
Joy Zheng's voice sounded in his ear. Evan nodded, pushed aside all the stray thoughts in his mind, exhaled a breath, and went home.
Early the next morning, the snow was still falling. Everything outside was wrapped in silver, a world of white.
Gavin Pan drove up to the villa, and Claire Zheng got out to help Joy Zheng carry some luggage and load it into the car.
"Faye hasn't gotten up yet. I'll have her contact you once she's awake."
Claire Zheng looked at Evan Lin and sighed, "Don't play for too long, or you'll run into the Spring Festival travel rush. It'll be a hassle to get back then, and the roads will be a mess."
"Mm."
