A gaunt figure half-reclined in the blood pool, surveying his surroundings. That face was all too familiar—it was the Sky-Flooding Demon Sovereign. Evan Yang had finally come face-to-face with him, and the cold needle in his ring was ready, poised to strike at any moment.
Before Evan could make a move, the Demon Sovereign’s eyes widened as he looked toward Evan, the corners of his mouth curling into a crescent smile. “So, a guest has arrived. What’s wrong? Afraid to show yourself?”
Evan Yang realized the Demon Sovereign could see him even while he was hidden. Slowly, Evan revealed himself and smiled, “A Demon Sovereign is a Demon Sovereign. You spotted me right away.”
“If I didn’t have at least that much skill, could I really call myself a Demon Sovereign?” the Sky-Flooding Demon Sovereign laughed.
“True enough. I underestimated you, Demon Sovereign—or rather, I underestimated how strong you are even when seriously wounded.” Evan Yang grinned.
The Sky-Flooding Demon Sovereign chuckled. “You, a proper Immortal Realm cultivator, what are you doing here? And you managed to find my hideout while I’m recovering—strange. What, did the Immortal Realm Alliance send you?”
“You’re right, Demon Sovereign. Your reputation is so loud, nobody wants you to recover—especially the Immortal Realm Alliance. I’m just here on someone’s behalf.” Evan Yang smiled.
“Ha! I’ve barely been out, and the Immortal Realm Alliance is already so anxious? I didn’t expect them to send you. Tell me, kid—what did the Alliance offer you to risk your life coming to Demon Mountain and sneaking in here?” the Sky-Flooding Demon Sovereign said.
“Not much, just a deal. Why do you ask, Demon Sovereign?” Evan Yang replied.
“Of course I want to know. If there’s profit involved, whatever they can give, I can give too. You’ve got some skill, but right now I can’t go all out—otherwise you wouldn’t even have a chance to stand here and talk.” The Sky-Flooding Demon Sovereign said.
“That’s right, Demon Sovereign. It’s only because of this opportunity that I could come here at all. Otherwise, the Immortal Realm would probably fall into chaos because of you. As for any reward, I’m not interested.” Evan Yang said plainly.
Evan’s words made the Sky-Flooding Demon Sovereign’s eyes narrow, a murderous glint flashing within. But then he relaxed and smiled. “So you’ve decided you’re definitely going to make a move on me?”
“Yeah.” Evan Yang said.
“Ha! You’re just an Immortal Lord. You really think you can kill me? Kid, don’t forget—even Immortal Sovereigns couldn’t wipe me out, let alone a little Immortal Lord like you.” The Sky-Flooding Demon Sovereign sneered.
“I never planned to kill you.” Evan Yang smiled. As he spoke, the cold needle shot out from his ring, aiming straight for the back of the Sky-Flooding Demon Sovereign’s head.
The Sky-Flooding Demon Sovereign hadn’t expected an Immortal Lord to be so fast. He waved his hand, and the blood in the pool surged up, forming a wall to block the needle. But Evan Yang wasn’t just launching a simple attack—he poured in even more power as soon as the blood wall appeared.
The Sky-Flooding Demon Sovereign was shocked. He hadn’t expected Evan Yang’s strength to be this great. If his own power weren’t restricted, he could have wiped Evan out on the spot. But now, all he could do was watch as the needle pierced through the blood wall and lodged in his back. Instantly, a wave of icy cold swept through his body, and the blood pool began to freeze.
“You think this thing can kill me?” Even though he could feel how extraordinary the needle was, the Sky-Flooding Demon Sovereign sneered.
“Like I said, I never planned to kill you. I just need to keep you from recovering.” Evan Yang replied.
The Sky-Flooding Demon Sovereign didn’t understand what Evan Yang meant, but the changes inside his body made his face fall. “What kind of treasure is this?”
“I don’t know the details. The Alliance Leader just said it was made to restrain you and stop your recovery.” Evan Yang answered.
“Damn it! What’s your name, kid? I won’t let you off!” the Sky-Flooding Demon Sovereign roared.
“If you really want to know, I’ll tell you—Evan Yang. A lot of people in Demon Mountain know me, so you can ask around. Anyway, I’m leaving now.” Evan knew there was no way he could defeat or capture the Demon Sovereign with his current strength, so he was already preparing to retreat.
The Sky-Flooding Demon Sovereign glared at Evan Yang. “Kid, aren’t you afraid I’ll get someone to force that thing out of me?”
“The Alliance Leader said this thing can’t just be forced out. I don’t know the specifics, but he must have his reasons. I’m not worried.” Evan Yang replied.
“You—!” The Sky-Flooding Demon Sovereign was furious. He found the needle had vanished, but the effects inside his body remained, as if the needle had disappeared without a trace after entering him.
Just as the Sky-Flooding Demon Sovereign raged, the ground beneath his feet suddenly shook. Evan Yang frowned—why was there an earthquake out of nowhere? The Demon Sovereign burst out laughing, “Ha! Kid, you won’t escape. Someone’s already noticed you’ve entered.” “That fast?” Evan hadn’t expected Demon Mountain’s people to discover him so quickly. Without hesitation, he darted toward the cave entrance. Down below, the Demon Sovereign’s angry roar echoed, “Evan Yang, just you wait! The day this thing gets forced out will be the day your soul is wiped out!”
At this moment, the Sky-Flooding Demon Sovereign was utterly furious—he’d actually been suppressed by an Immortal Lord. His hatred for the Immortal Realm Alliance only deepened; how dare they send someone like this against him.
Evan Yang reached the cemetery and was stunned to see countless graves trembling. He hadn’t expected this at all—some graves had already loosened, and people were crawling out. Their eyes were red, their strength immense—every step made the ground shake.
Evan was curious about the cause, but there was no time to investigate. He rushed toward the exit, staying hidden. When he neared the entrance, he finally understood what was happening.
He saw a group of Demon Mountain experts blasting away at a glowing barrier, and inside the light, demonic beasts were attacking. Deep within, three people were barely holding on—their faces had turned dark, and blood was seeping from the corners of their eyes.
It was obvious how badly the artifact’s defenders—Yang Tian and his two companions—were being battered by these attacks.
Yang Tian and the others never expected to be discovered so quickly, and more and more experts kept gathering. They knew if they dropped the artifact’s protection, they’d be tortured to death by endless attacks, so they held on desperately. What shocked them even more was that monsters were now crawling out of the cemetery itself.
Just as Evan Yang wondered whether to help, something burst out from underground and grabbed his leg.
“Crap, how did I get spotted?” Evan Yang was shocked, but quickly calmed down. He realized that anyone strong enough could see through his concealment.
As Evan Yang struggled, his presence was exposed. Yang Tian and the other two saw him and shouted, “Mu Han, how did it go?”
Evan Yang replied, “Handled.”
Hearing that the Sky-Flooding Demon Sovereign was handled, the trio finally felt relieved—but they were still in danger.
As for Evan Yang, he quickly shook off the monster underground and vanished again. Both Yang Tian’s group and the Demon Mountain experts were stunned to see him disappear so suddenly.
Evan Yang knew that if any other Demon Sovereigns arrived, escape would be impossible. Without hesitation, he blasted out of the crowd, dashed out of the Demon Tomb Grounds, and flew straight out of Demon Mountain.
Yang Tian and his companions had no idea what was happening until the barrier was breached. The three were injured, captured, and locked up somewhere.
Meanwhile, the Sky-Flooding Demon Sovereign was roaring, “Found him yet?”
“No, Sky-Flooding Demon Sovereign. Evan Yang showed up for a moment and vanished again,” a subordinate said, standing beside him.
“Go, call the other Demon Sovereigns. I must find Evan Yang—no matter what!” The Sky-Flooding Demon Sovereign was furious.
The subordinate hurried off to notify the other Demon Sovereigns.
The Demon Sovereigns who were busy with the Netherworld affairs were shocked when they heard Evan Yang had appeared—and even tricked the Sky-Flooding Demon Sovereign. Demoncloud Demon Sovereign, in particular, felt the name was familiar. After confirming it was really Evan Yang, he was enraged and rushed over with the others to join the hunt.
After leaving Demon Mountain, Evan Yang didn’t care what happened there anymore. He returned to Clara Snow. When Clara saw Evan, she asked, “How did it go?”
“Handled.” Evan Yang replied.
“Really? How did you pull it off?” Clara Snow was excited to hear the Sky-Flooding Demon Sovereign had been handled.
Evan Yang gave a quick summary, and Shui Jing was released as well.
When Shui Jing saw Evan Yang, she snapped, “How could you lie to me?”
“I had no choice. You know those three would never have worked with me.” Evan Yang smiled.
Clara Snow understood why Shui Jing was upset—it was because Evan Yang had disguised himself and tricked her. Clara explained, “That’s right. Those people are all full of themselves, and now they’re stuck with no way out. If it weren’t for Evan, we wouldn’t have finished the mission.”
Shui Jing was still angry, but she knew it was for the greater good—and those people really were annoying. She asked, “What about the Sky-Flooding Demon Sovereign?”
“Of course he’s still in Demon Mountain. What, you think I could take him away?” Evan Yang replied.
“That’s true. But how did you deal with him? Isn’t he supposed to be unkillable?” Shui Jing didn’t know about the treasure, so Evan Yang explained everything. When she finished listening, she finally understood.
“Now that you’ve finished your mission, when will you return? I’ll contact the Alliance Leader and have him arrange to bring you back,” Clara Snow said.
“If there’s nothing else, let’s go as soon as possible. I’m sure the other Demon Sovereigns will be looking for me everywhere once they find out,” Evan Yang said.
Clara Snow nodded. “Alright, I’ll make arrangements. Wait here for a bit.”
Clara Snow left, leaving Shui Jing still a bit upset. “If you do this again, I don’t care how strong you are—I won’t let you off.”
“I did it for your own good. If I hadn’t, would you have been able to act so convincingly?” Evan Yang grinned.
“If you don’t like them, you could’ve gone alone. Why bother bringing them along?” Shui Jing didn’t understand why Evan Yang insisted on traveling with Yang Tian and the others.
