Hear What She Has to Say

Princess Mira instantly recognized the familiar voice—it was that persistent country girl who had been trying to sneak into Suxin Pavilion to find her these past few days.

Cynthia Green bit her lip nervously and stood in the middle of the road, blocking the carriage.

Normally, Cynthia Green would never dare stop a princess's carriage, but she’d heard Princess Mira had sold Suxin Pavilion. That meant the princess wouldn't be coming to this area anymore. Cynthia’s world was small—if Princess Mira stopped visiting, it would be nearly impossible for Cynthia to see her again.

So Cynthia summoned her courage and dashed out to block the carriage.

Charles Chu was already in a foul mood. Seeing a clueless country girl blocking his carriage, he lifted the curtain, snatched the whip from the coachman, and lashed it across Cynthia’s body, shouting, "Where did this lowly peasant come from, daring to block my carriage? Are you looking to die!?"

Cynthia was caught off guard by the whip. Charles Chu was skilled in martial arts, and his strike was powerful enough to stun her. Clutching her face, she stood in the middle of the road like a wooden statue.

Seeing that the foolish country girl still didn’t move after being whipped and continued to block the way, Charles Chu cursed, "What’s going on today? One idiot wasn’t enough, now there’s another! Are you all trying to drive me mad?"

Lila, who had been silent until now, blushed and spoke up, "Your Highness, I know this country girl. She’s come to Suxin Pavilion every day, saying she wants to see Princess Mira."

"Oh?" Charles Chu raised an eyebrow at Lila, realizing there must be more to this. A timid country girl wouldn’t keep coming to Suxin Pavilion unless it was something important. Now she was even blocking the carriage and refusing to leave after being beaten—she must have something urgent.

"Princess Mira, what’s going on with that country girl?" Charles Chu turned to ask.

Princess Mira was still fuming over the slap she'd received from Charles Chu. Annoyed, she snapped, "How should I know what some country girl wants?"

Charles Chu glared at her. "You idiot! Use your pig brain for once! That girl has come to you again and again—she must have something important to say. At least hear her out! How can anyone be as foolish as you?"

Princess Mira rolled her eyes, muttering in defiance, "Just a country girl, a lowly thing—what could she possibly know?"

Unable to reason with Princess Mira and unwilling to die of anger, Charles Chu turned away from her and looked at the country girl standing in the road. "Who are you, and why are you blocking my carriage!?"

Cynthia Green looked at Charles Chu, overwhelmed by his noble presence. She quickly lowered her head and whispered, "I—I want to see Princess Mira. I have evidence against Lily Evans I wish to present to Her Highness."

Charles Chu sneered, sizing Cynthia up. "I've seen plenty of country girls like you. You talk big, but you're just scheming to get a quick payout and run, aren't you?"

Seeing that they misunderstood her, Cynthia's face turned red with anxiety. She blurted out, "I'm really not lying! Everything I said is true! I really do have evidence against Lily Evans for Princess Mira!"

Lila whispered in Charles Chu's ear, "Your Highness, from the way this girl speaks, I don't think she's lying. Why not ask her more carefully and see what she has to say?"
