Played in the Palm of Her Hand

"Sixteen of them, not bad. Let's go take a look." Lily Evans said, striding outside. As she left, she rubbed her brow, looking a bit exasperated. "Looks like I’m going to be busy for a while. No, I need to get White Pete back. Mrs. Penny, send someone to write a letter and invite Mr. White to the Qin Palace in Chang'an. Tell him I need his help."

"Yes, Chancellor Evans." Mrs. Penny replied.

Lily Evans had helped White Pete before, reuniting him with his long-lost daughter, White Lily, and having the Lin Family of Healers cure her illness.

So, when it came to Lily Evans, White Pete always put her first. As soon as he received word, he would surely hurry back.

The three of them walked for a while, first stopping by Lily Evans's room to pick up a small case, before heading to the dungeon.

Sean Hayes was interrogating a captured spy, tying him to a pillar and using the whip.

Lily Evans glanced at the spy, set the case down on the table, and said, "Good, the whip didn’t hurt his face."

Sean Hayes chuckled, "Chancellor Evans already told us, the spy’s face is important, can’t damage it. We all remember."

"Alright, you interrogate them one by one. I’ll be here making disguise masks." Lily Evans sat down at the table across from the spy and opened the case.

Inside the case were the materials she used to make disguise masks.

The mask Lily was making now was a quick, disposable disguise—built for speed and convenience.

The spy, writhing under punishment, confessed in broken, trembling bursts.

Lily finished the disposable mask in less than half an hour. From the secret guards Mrs. Penny brought, she chose one whose build matched the spy’s, and personally fitted the mask onto him.

And so, two identical faces appeared before the crowd, sparking a wave of astonishment.

The spy tied to the pillar stared in terror at the man opposite him—a perfect replica of his own face. His voice shook with panic: "What is this? What are you trying to do!?"

Lily looked at the spy and smiled faintly, a hint of amusement in her eyes. "Not bad, right? Even you can't tell the difference between this face and your own. My agent will wear your face and use the secrets you've spilled to impersonate you. Your master has planted far too many spies in Qin—rooting them all out is tedious work. Even if we clear out the old ones, he'll just send new ones. Tsk, it's easier to catch all the real spies and have my own people take their place..."

With every word Lily spoke, the spy's terror deepened.

Suddenly, the spy understood Lily's scheme—she was going to infiltrate their ranks with disguised agents, swapping out real spies for fakes and catching more genuine spies in the process. In just a few months, every spy sent to Qin would be replaced, and no one would be the wiser!

Such a cleansing method—absolutely cunning!

Emperor Jin and Prime Minister Gu Liangzhe could never imagine that all their spies had been quietly swapped out for Lily's own people!

When that day comes, the entire intelligence network Jin and Chu built in Qin will collapse. Every bit of information they receive will be controlled by Lily—whatever she wants them to hear, that's what they'll get.

From a thousand miles away, Lily Evans plays Emperor Jin and Prime Minister Gu Liangzhe like puppets in the palm of her hand. The cunning and intellect of Chancellor Lily Evans of Qin is truly terrifying!
