Beastmaster Duo

Surprisingly, Calvin Xie ignored Zoe Shan and pressed his aura directly onto Evan Yang. Evan, unfazed, released his own aura and coldly snorted, "Don’t think you’re the only cultivator here!"

As soon as Evan Yang’s aura appeared, Calvin Xie sensed something was off, but he still scoffed, "So what if a little beggar like you has early Foundation-Building strength?"

Zoe Shan was also quite surprised that a beggar could possess such high cultivation.

Evan Yang said, "Zoe Shan, you’d better keep Calvin Xie in check. If he keeps acting so arrogant, he won’t even know how he died one day." Earlier, Evan saw Zoe Shan try to help him but was just too late, so he felt some goodwill toward her, but toward Calvin Xie, he felt pure disgust.

Zoe Shan smiled and said, "Little brother, Calvin Xie is just a bit impatient."

"Impatient?" Evan Yang didn’t buy it. To him, Calvin Xie clearly treated human lives like grass and didn’t care about him at all.

Calvin Xie, hearing Zoe Shan talk like this, snorted unwillingly, "Zoe Shan, are you siding with an outsider?"

"Calvin Xie, we’re here under our master’s orders to find Jade Rabbit. There’s no need to cause so much trouble!" Zoe Shan knew Calvin Xie’s personality and spoke helplessly.

"After I deal with this kid, I’ll go catch that Jade Rabbit." Right now, all Calvin Xie wanted was to kill Evan Yang.

Standing before him, Evan Yang could clearly see the killing intent in Calvin Xie’s eyes, but he didn’t flinch. Instead, he intensified his aura and clashed with Calvin Xie, forcing him to step back in surprise. "I didn’t expect your aura to be so strong!" Calvin Xie exclaimed.

Evan Yang knew his spiritual power recovered faster than ordinary people, giving him a clear advantage. If it came down to a contest of aura, over time, he would naturally outmatch Calvin Xie.

Calvin Xie, suppressed by Evan Yang’s aura, snorted, "Filthy beggar, don’t think just because your cultivation is stable that I can’t do anything to you."

Calvin Xie blamed his defeat in the aura contest on Evan Yang having been in early Foundation-Building for a long time.

Evan Yang was just curious what Calvin Xie would use against him, when suddenly Calvin Xie ordered the fierce beast, "Little Tiger, tear him apart for me!"

"Calvin Xie! Don’t!" Zoe Shan quickly stopped Little Tiger and tried to hold Calvin Xie back.

"Zoe Shan, are you really going to protect an outsider?" Calvin Xie was already furious and wanted to teach Evan Yang a lesson, but Zoe Shan kept helping the outsider.

Zoe Shan was about to argue, but Calvin Xie had already charged forward with Little Tiger. As Little Tiger lunged at him, Evan Yang sneered, "I already neutered it earlier—does it still want to act fierce?" With that, he shook the Spirit-Chime Bell.

Sure enough, as soon as the bell rang, Little Tiger lost all its energy and couldn’t fight at all. Calvin Xie was furious, roaring like thunder, "Who are you really? How do you have such a treasure?"

"You mean this treasure? I just got it recently—didn’t expect it to be so useful against spirit beasts." Evan Yang said as he kept shaking the bell, secretly wondering how the Daoist had gotten it in the first place.

Zoe Shan stood nearby, watching Evan Yang’s bell in surprise. After seeing Little Tiger so drained, she relaxed and said, "Little brother, we didn’t mean to offend you. We just want Jade Rabbit behind your cave."

"Junior sister, stop wasting words with him. The two of us together can settle him easily." The young man snorted, refusing to back down.

"Senior brother!" The woman grew anxious.

Seeing the woman refuse to act, the young man snorted, "I’m not counting on you anyway!" He pulled out a flute from his robe. The woman’s face turned extremely grim when she saw it and immediately tried to stop him, "Senior brother, don’t! If you use that, it’ll hurt the spirit beast."

"So what? If it can’t handle even this, what kind of spirit beast is it?" The young man said, pushing the woman aside.

Evan Yang was curious about the flute’s effect. As soon as the young man started playing, the once drained beast perked up as if injected with stimulants—its ears shot up, eyes turned blood-red, drool dripped from its mouth, and it bared two rows of vicious teeth. Its claws dug sharply into the ground, like needles stabbing the earth.

"What the heck is this now?" Evan Yang realized the bell had no effect on the spirit beast anymore, and instead it was coming at him more viciously than ever.

"Little brother, you should run!" The woman looked at Evan Yang with concern.

Evan Yang didn’t panic, but he wasn’t weak either. He put away the bell and coldly snorted, "Miss, you’d better tell your senior brother to stop, or I can’t guarantee whether this beast will live or die."

The woman was shocked at first, then tried to persuade the young man, but he ignored her and kept playing the flute. The beast, hearing the flute, went wild and charged at Evan Yang, intent on tearing him apart.

Seeing the young man ignore him, Evan Yang didn’t hesitate. Swish, swish, swish—three sharp sounds, followed by a final "Ao!" The beast foamed at the mouth, blood pouring as it trembled on the ground. Then, swish, swish, swish again, and blood sprayed from several vital points on its body.

It happened so suddenly that both the man and woman nearby didn’t know what was going on. When they saw the beast lying on the ground, barely alive, the young man spat out several mouthfuls of black blood and fainted.

The woman quickly supported the young man. After looking at the dying beast, she took out a gourd-like artifact and stored it away. With a complicated expression, she said to Evan Yang, "Little brother, you’d better leave as soon as possible."

"Why?" Evan Yang was curious. By rights, the woman was with the young man, so why was she still speaking to him so politely after he killed their spirit beast?

"You’ll understand someday." The woman sighed, looking at the unconscious young man.

"Miss, may I ask your name—and his? Why is he so arrogant?" Evan Yang asked curiously.

The woman understood who Evan Yang meant and replied helplessly, "We’re a beast-taming duo from the latest generation, disciples of Exotic Beast Peak in the Beastmaster Sect. I’m Zoe Shan, he’s Calvin Xie. You’d best avoid our sectmates in the future—the consequences could be severe."

Evan Yang was about to ask about Exotic Beast Peak when Zoe Shan mounted her sword and flew off, carrying her unconscious senior brother.

"Trouble ahead," Evan Yang thought as he watched the woman’s departing figure. He wanted to stop her and take her hostage, to guarantee his own safety, but her courtesy and protection made him hesitate.

Just as Evan Yang was pondering how to handle things, he felt something underfoot and jumped back in alarm, staring at the spot where he’d been standing. It turned out to be the rabbit hiding in the cave, curiously watching him.

Looking at the adorable rabbit, Evan Yang walked over, crouched down, and stroked its fluffy white fur with a smile. "I really don’t know what’s so special about you that they want to catch you."

"Big brother, thank you." Just as Evan finished speaking, he heard a little girl’s voice. Startled, he looked toward the sound and saw the Jade Rabbit staring at him in surprise.

"Was that you talking?" Evan Yang asked in disbelief.

"Yes, big brother." The cute Jade Rabbit used one little paw to fiddle with its ear as it spoke.

Hearing this, Evan Yang realized this was no ordinary rabbit. Even a rabbit that could talk would have to be highly cultivated, but this one didn’t look like a spirit monster at all. Curious, he asked, "Why do they want to catch you?"

"I used to live deep in the mountains. When I became aware, I met a human who took me out of the mountains. But he treated me as a tool for finding herbs. I got tired of that life and escaped. Luckily, I met you, big brother—otherwise, they’d have caught me again." The Jade Rabbit spoke with grievance.

Crouching there, Evan Yang was secretly amazed. The rabbit could find medicinal herbs? That was perfect for him, but he couldn’t say so aloud, afraid the Jade Rabbit would run away. After thinking it over, he smiled and asked, "Where do you live?"

"I don’t know either." The Jade Rabbit replied sadly.

Seeing the Jade Rabbit so upset, Evan Yang couldn’t bear to leave a spirit beast wandering outside. He patted its fur and said, "Where do you want to go? I’ll take you."

The Jade Rabbit raised its head and asked, "Big brother, can you take me with you?"

"Your name is Jade Rabbit?" Evan Yang realized the two people earlier were after this rabbit, and was surprised to learn its name was actually Jade Rabbit.

Jade Rabbit responded with a soft 'Mm' and hopped onto Evan Yang’s chest, then lay across his legs and muttered, "Big brother, you have pills on you—can you give me one?"

"You can even tell I have pills?" Evan Yang thought the rabbit was just playing, but it had actually sensed the medicine he carried—the four remaining Essence Pills. Now he finally understood this rabbit was no ordinary creature.

Since Jade Rabbit had asked, Evan Yang couldn’t refuse. He took out one pill and held it to its mouth, saying, "Go ahead, eat it."

Jade Rabbit opened its mouth and swallowed the pill, then smacked its lips a few times and complained, "This pill isn’t as good as that old guy’s."

"That old guy? His pills are better than mine?" Evan Yang asked, surprised.

"Mm, that old guy had lots of pills and always used them to tempt me." Jade Rabbit said, aggrieved.

"Whew." Hearing this, Evan Yang was sure the old guy must be someone important—otherwise, how could he have so many pills better than Essence Pills? He felt lucky that Jade Rabbit had chosen to follow him.

"Big brother, I’m sleepy." After eating the pill, Jade Rabbit curled up on Evan Yang’s legs like a tired animal.

Seeing such an adorable sleeping posture, Evan Yang picked it up but didn’t know what to do. "Where should I put it?"

In the end, Evan Yang asked the villagers for some unused cloth, sewed a pouch at his waist, and put the rabbit inside. Once he was sure it was safe, he left excitedly.

The villagers had no idea where this little beggar came from. They only knew he’d just fought two immortals, so they didn’t dare offend him. After he left, everyone finally relaxed and went back to their own business.

Evan Yang, in a good mood, looked at Jade Rabbit in the pouch and didn’t disturb it, knowing it was absorbing the pill and cultivating just like a person.
