The Third Household's Hardship

Lily Evans looked up and saw Sam Evans and his son Sean Evans rubbing their hands and smiling at her, their faces a mix of embarrassment and awkwardness.

"Uncle Sam, Sean," Lily exclaimed in surprise, not expecting members of the Evans family to show up as well. But she quickly realized it made sense—the Evans Family suffered the worst losses this time, and they were probably struggling to put food on the table.

"Lily, you, you... I..." Sam Evans stammered, his face flushing with embarrassment. He truly felt ashamed to face his niece.

"Uncle Sam and Sean are both strong workers, of course we’ll take you in. Don’t worry, come tomorrow—just like everyone else, one hundred coins a day and two meals included." Lily quickly regained her composure and cheerfully registered their names.

Sam Evans rubbed his hands, lowered his head in confusion, then gave Lily a grateful smile. "Thank you, Lily."

"It's nothing," Lily replied.

Sam Evans and Sean Evans saw that Lily hadn’t taken the opportunity to mock or kick them while they were down, which eased some of their anxiety. The father and son headed toward the Evans house.

Currently, the Evans Family was living in a newly built thatched hut, even more shabby than where Lily used to stay.

Susan Evans waited anxiously at the door. As soon as she saw the two arrive, she rushed over and whispered, "Sam, Sean, did you get registered?"

"We did," Sam Evans replied.
