Confiding in Each Other

Xiao Zetian looked at Su Li, his expression complicated, and remained silent for a long while.

Su Li looked up at him but couldn't discern his emotions. Closing her eyes, she continued, "General Xiao, are you really angry with me...?"

Xiao Zetian snorted lightly and sat down by the bed: "If you call me General Xiao again, I might actually get angry."

Su Li was stunned for a moment, then heard Xiao Zetian sigh deeply, as if he had just let go of a heavy burden.

Xiao Zetian raised his hand and gently touched Su Li's long hair. Seeing she didn't resist, his expression softened: "Do you know why I gave you that fertility soup?"

Su Li asked in confusion, "Was it because you saw my disheveled hair and untidy clothes, and misunderstood me?"

Xiao Zetian shook his head: "If it was just because of that, I wouldn't have misunderstood you so badly. Do you remember after Prince Ling escaped, he sent a guard back to whisper something to me, and I cut that man's head off?"

Su Li nodded. That bloody scene was the first she had witnessed with her own eyes; how could she forget it?

"Do you know what that man told me?" Xiao Zetian's eyes flashed with a trace of anger: "He was delivering a message from Prince Ling, who said that he had... defiled you."

Su Li was stunned; she hadn't expected Prince Ling to twist the facts like that to Xiao Zetian.

"Prince Ling wanted to use this to drive a wedge between you and me," Xiao Zetian sighed. "It's also my fault for not asking you more. At that time, seeing you in that state and hearing Prince Ling's message, I wanted to confirm with you, but I was afraid of reopening your wounds and making you sad. So I took matters into my own hands and gave you the medicine. Who knew it backfired and made you so angry, thinking I didn't care about you..."

Listening to his explanation, Su Li realized there were so many twists and turns. If they hadn't calmly talked things through now, the misunderstanding would have been hard to resolve.

But now that the misunderstanding was cleared, one knot in her heart was untied.

Xiao Zetian held Su Li's hand and said, "From now on, you must not call me General Xiao. Call me husband, or I won't forgive you this time."

Su Li snorted and pulled her hand away: "That's just one thing. There are others."

Then Su Li began counting on her fingers: "There's also the fact that you regained your memory but didn't tell me, and kept lying to me; then that so-called rustic cousin of yours, he's definitely not your real cousin, right? And those four disciples of Lingdang... Hmph, General Xiao, you are so resourceful, who knows what you've been up to."

"Call me husband once, and I'll tell you what I've done," Xiao Zetian shamelessly tried to grab Su Li's hand again. Su Li shook it a few times but couldn't break free. She didn't bother to check and let him hold her hand, turning her head and saying, "Say whatever you want, I'm not interested!"

Xiao Zetian kicked off his shoes, swiftly jumped onto the bed, and pulled Su Li into his arms from behind.

Su Li struggled a few times and said, "What are you doing! A mighty general, a war god, and yet you bully a little woman like this!"

Xiao Zetian held her tighter, blowing in her ear: "Wife, sit still and listen to me. If you keep wriggling like that, I might really not be able to resist teasing you."

Su Li dared not breathe loudly this time and obediently let Xiao Zetian hold her, listening to what he had to say.

Xiao Zetian let her comfortably lean against his chest and began: "Remember the time you fell into the water? You were seriously ill then, with a high fever that wouldn't subside. I risked going into the mountains to gather ginseng for you. Then I also fell ill and had a high fever. After waking up from that, I remembered everything from before... The reason I didn't tell you was that I wanted to stay by your side, to be with you. It had nothing to do with what Prince Ling said about using you to make money from business."

Xiao Zetian chuckled lightly and proudly tapped Su Li's nose: "That fool Prince Ling doesn't know how rich your husband is. No matter how much silver you earn, even if it's ten thousand times more, I wouldn't care."
