Not Poison, Su Wan Shows Her Arrogance
What kind of mess is this!
Why did Victor Yun have to get involved? He’s just making things messier.
Serena Feng was truly irritated. She could understand Prince Nolan speaking up for her, but what was Victor Yun’s deal?
Serena shot Victor Yun a look. Meeting his steady, earnest gaze, she didn’t feel moved at all—if anything, she quietly took note to ask Ninth Royal Uncle later if there was something in Night City that Victor Yun had his eye on.
In this world, the only person who would wipe out Night City for Serena Feng’s sake, without weighing cost or benefit, was William Wang Jinling.
It’s not that Serena was pessimistic or didn’t trust Ninth Royal Uncle—she believed that if she died, he’d destroy Night City for her too. But he’d definitely find a way to profit from it.
As for Prince Terrence, they were comrades-in-arms, but probably not close enough for him to risk everything for her.
"Serena, let’s go." The Crown Prince saw Serena Feng and Victor Yun locking eyes and thought she’d been moved by Victor’s words. He quickly spoke up, urging Serena to leave first and talk later.
Su Wan’s eyes lit up. She silently prayed for Serena Feng to leave quickly, while outwardly she wept in silence, looking pitiful and self-sacrificing—enough to soften anyone’s heart.
"Of course I’ll leave, but there are things I have to make clear. I’m not some saint, and I’m not here to save Night City out of selflessness. But at least I can answer to my own conscience." With Victor Yun meddling, everything was spinning out of control. Serena decided to cut through the chaos. Her gaze swept past Su Wan and the City Lord of Night City, landing on Simon Sun, who had just finished tidying up the medicine chest. Serena called out, "Simon, come here."
Everyone nodded; Su Wan’s words weren’t wrong. In this situation, if Reid Yale died, Su Wan would be in deep trouble herself. That’s why no one believed her silver needle could be anything but harmless.
"If Reid Yale dies at my hands, you stand to gain plenty. First, the City Lord of Night City would never let me go, because in everyone’s eyes, his son died because of me. Second, with his only son gone, the City Lord would be devastated, and you—being the woman Reid cared for—could win his sympathy by showing filial devotion, especially since you knelt to save him. He might even take you in as a daughter. And finally, if Reid dies, conflict will flare between Night City and Eastlyn, and you might not have to marry the Lord of Gold City after all." Serena laid out Su Wan’s motives with icy clarity, and the more she spoke, the more Su Wan trembled.
"Marry the Lord of Gold City? What’s that supposed to mean?" The City Lord’s question was natural—very few people knew about Su Wan’s engagement to the Lord of Gold City.
"The Su family traded Su Wan for a massive bride-price. Otherwise, why would the City Lord think Su Wan would kneel before me, throwing away her family’s pride? Do you really think she’d risk her reputation for Reid Yale? The truth is, the Su family already abandoned her." Serena Feng tore away Su Wan’s last shred of dignity without mercy.
"Su Wan, what’s going on?" The City Lord of Night City wasn’t foolish—he knew Serena Feng wouldn’t dare lie about something so easily exposed.
Serena Feng hadn’t guessed everything, but she was nearly spot-on. Her calm, razor-sharp analysis was terrifying—Su Wan’s fear grew with every word.
"Don’t ask me, don’t ask me—I don’t know, I don’t know, I know nothing. Wuwuwu..." Faced with the City Lord’s questioning, Su Wan was at a loss. All she could do was sob.
At that moment, Simon Sun discovered the issue with the silver needle.
"Master, there’s something on the silver needle." Simon Sun wrapped it in a clean white cloth and gently wiped—instantly, a faint mark appeared on the fabric.
"Can you tell what it is?" Judging by Serena Feng’s tone, everyone thought she already knew and was just testing Simon Sun, giving him a chance to prove himself.
In truth, Serena Feng had no idea.
After all this time studying, she’d gotten better at traditional medicine and could use it with some skill—but only for the basics and common drugs. If she could tell what was on the needle, she’d have exposed Su Wan ages ago.
Simon Sun handed the needle back to Serena Feng, then rummaged through her medicine chest for odd reagents and tiny instruments. After a short while, he declared, "Master, this is a mixed medicine—not poison…"
"Not poison." Those words were music to Su Wan’s ears. Her eyes brightened, her sobs stopped abruptly. Before Simon Sun could finish, Su Wan cut him off, triumphant: "Serena Feng, did you hear that? The needle isn’t poisoned! Why would I hurt my cousin? I care about him so much—how could I possibly harm him? Serena Feng, you’re going out of your way to frame me. What are you after?"
Clearly, Su Wan’s near-hysterical sobbing was just a trick to dodge questions. She might not be a genius, but her petty schemes never seem to run out…
That's guilt!
Miss Su Wan, the poison on your needle is the kind that silver can’t detect." It was obvious Su Wan’s needle was dangerous, but the specifics would have to wait for Simon Sun’s test. Serena didn’t know the details yet.
"You’re making things up! Why would my needle be poisoned? What would I do with a poisoned needle?" Su Wan tried to argue, but her guilty conscience made her voice falter.
"How should I know why you’re carrying a poisoned needle? But from the look of things, you wanted to kill the Young City Lord and pin it on me." Serena couldn’t think of any other reason. Su Wan hadn’t had a chance to stab her, and Serena wasn’t about to just lie down and let her do it.
Su Wan sneered, "Serena Feng, you’re hilarious. Why would I kill my own cousin? He’s my cousin—what’s in it for me?"
Impossible! How could Serena Feng have spotted a problem with the needle? Su Wan’s eyes narrowed, her heart pounding and legs weak. She forced herself to stay calm despite the pain in her cheek, and snapped at Serena: "Serena Feng, you just want to accuse me! The needle is for testing poison. If there were anything wrong, it would already be black!"
"Silver needles are for testing poison, sure—but not every poison shows up. Some poisons leave no mark, but can still kill." Serena’s calm was a stark contrast to Su Wan’s growing anger.
"You’re just trying to scare me. What kind of poison can’t be found with a silver needle?" Impossible, impossible, that person swore it couldn’t be detected. How could Serena Feng know? She must be lying. Su Wan clenched her fists, eyes darting, unable to meet Serena’s gaze.
Simon Sun immediately stopped what he was doing and hurried over in quick steps.
"Check this silver needle carefully. Be cautious, don’t prick yourself." Serena Feng didn’t believe Su Wan’s needle was just an ordinary silver needle.
