How Can Life Go On
Lily Evans really did a number on Madam Lou this time, throwing Marquis Valor Estate into chaos and then simply dusting herself off and leaving arm-in-arm with Alexander Hayes.
Madam Lou’s New Year was truly something. She tried to set up her son and daughter-in-law, but got outplayed instead, losing even her appetite for the reunion dinner.
And as for Marquis Weiyuan, he couldn’t wait to run off and enjoy himself with his two concubines, leaving Madam Lou all alone on what was supposed to be a night of family togetherness.
Madam Lou sat in her room, crying into her hands. Lucy Lou came in, saw Madam Lou sobbing, and hurried over to comfort her. “Auntie, don’t cry! What happened?”
Seeing Lucy Lou, Madam Lou grabbed her and cried even harder. “Lucy, oh Lucy, from now on your uncle will only have eyes for those two vixens—he won’t care about us anymore!”
Lucy Lou hugged Madam Lou tightly and tried to comfort her. “Auntie, that won’t happen. You and Uncle have been married for so many years—he won’t just forget the bond you share.”
Madam Lou looked utterly miserable. “The bond between husband and wife? If those two vixens give him a few sons, just watch—he’ll forget all about his aging, fading wife. Boo hoo, how am I supposed to go on like this?”
Lucy Lou looked at Madam Lou’s pitiful state, at a loss for words. “Auntie, how did things end up like this? Weren’t we supposed to have Cousin and Cousin-in-law over for New Year’s dinner? Why did Uncle suddenly take concubines?”
At the mention of this, Madam Lou ground her teeth in anger. “I should’ve known—Alexander would never leave Marquis Valor Estate without leaving behind spies! Today, he and that wretch Lily Evans came prepared, put on a show to trick us! In the end, they drugged your uncle and those two sisters, tossed them together, and—ugh!”
Lucy Lou was shocked—Madam Lou hadn’t mentioned any of this plan to her before.
