Chapter 335: Frost Giant (Please vote for this chapter!)
Most people might think that, aside from its astonishing strength, the Frost Giant isn’t all that terrifying. But Leon knew better—this was the true form of an elemental avatar: monstrous speed, overwhelming force, a body as powerful as those of gods and demons. Every movement stirred the surrounding frost elements into a frenzy. It was just a hair’s breadth from the ultimate state of elemental incarnation…
At this moment, the elemental avatar form that Hanson Charlotte displayed was even stronger than Leon’s. After all, Leon had only just stepped into the realm of Archmage, and his grasp of elemental avatars was far from mature…
“Die!” the Frost Giant roared, and the surrounding frost elements surged wildly. Even the flames swirling around Leon seemed to dim in an instant…
At the same time, the Frost Giant smashed both fists into the ground. With a thunderous boom, a massive pit opened beneath its feet, sending chunks of stone flying. The impact was like a mountain collapsing, the earth itself splitting apart.
With that devastating blow, it felt as if the frost elements of the entire world had been summoned. In the howling winds, dozens of tornadoes appeared, sweeping up huge stones and ice. In a flash, Leon’s escape routes were completely sealed off.
And yet…
This was only the beginning…
After summoning dozens of tornadoes, Hanson Charlotte didn’t pause for a moment. His arm, sheathed in thick ice armor, shot out, and a Frost Spear several meters long appeared in his grasp…
Then, with a deafening boom, the Frost Spear was hurled. It carried the sound of wind and thunder, its terrifying power enough to startle even a dragon. Under such force, the Frost Spear moved faster than lightning, fiercer than thunder—just a streak of blue light tearing through the air…
“My god…” Ross Merlin was completely stunned. This level of battle was far beyond his comprehension.
A Fifth-Level Mage’s power was nothing compared to this—less than a newborn. Ross Merlin had no chance to intervene, only able to watch as Hanson Charlotte summoned dozens of Frost Cyclones, and as the Frost Spear tore through the air at thunderous speed toward his distant cousin…
The power Hanson Charlotte displayed completely shattered Ross Merlin’s imagination—too strong, too terrifying. Ross couldn’t even fathom how his distant cousin could possibly withstand such a thunderous strike…
At the moment the Frost Spear tore through the air, Ross Merlin was left utterly dumbfounded…
It’s over. It’s all over…
His distant cousin’s only option was to use the Rune Shield, just like William Merlin did at the Merlin Family Manor to block his Fire Dragon spell.
But once the Rune Shield was used…
His distant cousin would be one step away from defeat.
Be careful…
Ross Merlin clenched his fists tightly, his eyes fixed on the Frost Spear—faster than lightning…
Then, Ross Merlin heard a thunderous crash…
“Damn it…” Ross cursed under his breath, instantly recognizing the sound—the Frost Spear had struck the Elemental Shield.
Sure enough, when Ross turned his head, he saw the Frost Spear shatter into countless ice shards, falling with a crisp sound before his distant cousin…
It really was the Rune Shield…
Ross Merlin shut his eyes in despair. Once the Rune Shield was gone, the outcome of this battle was all but decided…
With Hanson Charlotte now transformed into a Frost Elemental, his mastery over frost magic was nearly limitless. A mere Tier-3 Frost Spear was nothing to him; with a single rune, he could summon thousands…
As expected…
Almost as soon as the first Frost Spear exploded, a second appeared in Hanson Charlotte’s hand—another deafening roar, another thunderous throw. A piercing whistle split the air as the second Frost Spear shot toward Leon like lightning…
Then came the third, the fourth, the fifth…
With each Frost Spear launched, Ross Merlin’s heart sank lower. He knew his distant cousin’s Rune Shield couldn’t take much more. Maybe the next Frost Spear would tear through it completely, plunging into his chest like a dagger…
“Use Mind Sharpness, hurry, use Mind Sharpness…” Ross Merlin’s back was soaked in cold sweat, his pale face twisted with anxiety and tension.
At this moment, Mind Sharpness was the only thing that could save his distant cousin.
Only with the power of Mind Sharpness could his cousin hope to shorten the Rune Shield’s spell decay cycle. How much time he could buy didn’t matter—in a battle at this level, even a single second could mean the difference between life and death…
Damn it, why won’t he use Mind Sharpness!
Ross Merlin just couldn’t understand it. At this point, why was his cousin still so calm, fending off the relentless Frost Spears while darting between the dozens of Frost Cyclones—and even finding time to cast a few fire spells…
This was just unbelievable!
Watching this, Ross Merlin wanted to curse out loud. At a time like this, surrounded by Frost Cyclones and facing a barrage of Frost Spears, with his Rune Shield nearly spent, what he should be doing is using Mind Sharpness to buy time for a second Rune Shield—not wasting energy on those damned fire spells.
What’s the point of casting fire spells now?
Are you celebrating Hanson Charlotte killing you with fireworks, or planning a grand barbecue for him?
At this point, Ross Merlin had completely given up hope.
Ross Merlin used to think that, since his distant cousin could kill Stan Watson so easily even under the heavy protection of the Red Dragon Mercenary Company, he must have the power of a Title Archmage. With that kind of strength, even if he couldn’t defeat Hanson Charlotte, surely he could buy a little time to escape, right?
Now Ross Merlin realized just how wrong he’d been…
It’s true—his cousin’s strength was indeed at the Title Archmage level.
But judging by this battle, his cousin’s combat skills lagged far behind his raw power. For a mage, that’s fatal—what’s the point of overwhelming strength if you don’t know how to use it?
“If only I had that kind of power…” Right now, Ross Merlin wished he were the one with Title Archmage strength.
If he were the one transformed into a fire elemental, Ross was sure this fight wouldn’t be nearly so difficult.
At the very least, his spellcasting and control were leagues ahead of his cousin’s.
If he were the one up there, he wouldn’t be in such a hopeless, waiting-to-die situation. He had plenty of ways to struggle against Hanson Charlotte. Even if he lost, he’d never lose this badly.
Just look at what this guy’s doing…
He’s thrown out at least ten fire spells, turning a hundred-meter radius into a sea of flames. It looks impressive, sure—but what’s the point?
Hanson Charlotte had already transformed into the Frost Giant—that’s the advanced form of an elemental avatar. Covering a hundred meters with ordinary flames wouldn’t matter. Even if they were all high-purity magical fire, the Frost Giant’s body, rivaling gods and demons, wouldn’t fear any flame.
Unless those flames were powerful enough to overwhelm a Title Archmage…
If you could really crush a Title Archmage, why bother talking to Hanson Charlotte at all? Just send out a Wind Blade and end him instantly…
It’s over, it’s over. The Rune Shield’s light had completely vanished…
“Cousin, use your fire magic artifact!” Ross Merlin was frantic, so desperate that he didn’t care if his shout drew Hanson Charlotte’s attention.
But his risky shout got no response. Neither his cousin nor Hanson Charlotte bothered to spare him a glance…
By now, Leon was completely engulfed in flames, utterly unprotected…
Meanwhile, his enemy, Hanson Charlotte, had summoned yet another Frost Spear.
Maybe, in the next instant, that Frost Spear would pierce Leon’s chest…
Yet Leon still didn’t look the least bit worried. Dozens of Frost Cyclones blocked every escape route, wind howled, ice and stone flew everywhere, and the ground was covered in roaring flames. It was hell—ice and fire, all at once.
“Leon Merlin, let’s see how much longer you can hold out!” Hanson Charlotte’s earth-shattering roar echoed as he hurled the Frost Spear like lightning…
This was the final strike!
“Probably about ten more seconds…” Leon’s voice was low, so quiet that even Hanson Charlotte didn’t hear it. Facing this lethal Frost Spear, the young Archmage still had time to answer his own question…
But whether anyone heard him didn’t really matter…
Because, just as Hanson Charlotte unleashed his Frost Spear, a brilliant light flared up around Leon!
It was the Rune Shield!
