Damien Gray looked at Lily Xia, his voice devoid of emotion and utterly flat, yet it sent a chill down her spine. "Isn't she fine now?"
Lily Xia's lips trembled, but she couldn't say a word.
Lily Xia truly felt heartache for Claire Yi. That slap on Claire's face hurt Lily more than if it had landed on her own. Perhaps this was exactly the effect Damien Gray intended.
Claire Yi's tears fell even harder. In truth, she had woken up the moment Damien Gray was about to leave, but she pretended to still be trapped in a nightmare, just to make him stay. She never expected things to turn out like this. She thought that, even out of gratitude, Damien Gray would show her a little pity. After all, he had always treated her differently—at least he'd have patience to say a few more words to her.
"If..." Claire Yi looked at Damien Gray's impassive face and choked out, "If it were your Princess Consort, would you hit her too?"
Claire Yi couldn't help but ask, desperate to know the answer. Morgan Shangguan had become a thorn in her heart. Without Morgan, she could still believe that as long as she didn't give up, her senior brother would accept her one day. But after what happened today, she felt uneasy. Damien Gray's attitude toward Morgan was far too special; she had never seen him act so intimately with any other woman.
Damien Gray recalled what happened after he'd been drunk—the vulnerability Morgan Shangguan showed was... truly heartbreaking.
Seeing Damien Gray remain silent, the color drained from Claire Yi's face. She murmured, "Why? What is it about her that's so good? Is it just because she's more beautiful than me?"
Damien Gray replied coldly, "She's not that annoying!" Then he swept his sleeves and left.
Yes! Morgan Shangguan wasn't nearly as irritating. In fact, he even enjoyed being around her. Morgan made him feel that having someone who was both a rival and a friend in this world wasn't such a bad thing after all.
Ethan Gu quietly followed Damien Gray's footsteps, feeling a bit shocked—His Highness actually said Morgan Shangguan wasn't that annoying! If the prince said she wasn't annoying, did that mean he liked her? Did he actually like a suspected traitor?
This seemed like a serious problem! Ethan Gu couldn't help but frown. Maxwell Jing had disappeared somewhere, and now he didn't even know who to consult.
After a while, Damien Gray suddenly stopped walking. Lost in thought, Ethan Gu walked right into him. Damien frowned and looked at him, asking, "Ethan, is something the matter?" Bumping into someone was hardly something Ethan Gu would do.
Ethan Gu snapped back to reality, silently grumbling, My lord, it seems like you're the one with a problem right now. But aloud, he replied respectfully, "Nothing, I was just a bit distracted."
Damien Gray didn't press further. He said in a deep voice, "Get ready. We depart the day after tomorrow!" His gaze swept toward the courtyard, a faint smile on his lips. That woman would probably try to run off soon too!
Watching Damien Gray step inside, Ethan Gu was about to follow when he suddenly realized something was off. This wasn't the Ghost Chamber—it was the Shadow Court! Was His Highness really planning to spend the night here?
Ethan Gu was deeply conflicted. No, he had to find someone to discuss this with. He couldn't just stand by and watch His Highness jump into the fire pit!
"Crack..."
After a loud crash, Damien Gray shook his head at the ruined bed and said, "Princess Consort, what are you doing? Even such a sturdy bed couldn't survive your sleeping!"
Morgan Shangguan clenched her fists and climbed down from the shattered bed, gritting her teeth. "Damien Gray, what exactly are you trying to do?"
She had actually fallen asleep, but Damien Gray had stealthily climbed onto her bed. Although his unique aura was impossible to hide, she was so familiar with it that she only woke up when he touched her—reflexively, she struck out with her palm.
Damien Gray managed to dodge, but the bed couldn't, so it met its untimely end.
Damien Gray looked completely innocent as he said, "It's late, of course I'm here to sleep!" Fine, he admitted he had a bit of a wicked sense of humor, but seeing Morgan Shangguan angry was honestly delightful—especially since she always acted like nothing could bother her.
Morgan Shangguan took a deep breath, her face calming though she was still gritting her teeth inside. She realized this man truly had the ability to make a saint furious. Pulling up the corners of her mouth, she smiled and asked, "Wasn't Your Highness going to see your junior sister?"
"Claire was just having a nightmare, that's all. Nothing serious!"
"To keep her from having another nightmare, Your Highness should stay with her!" Morgan gestured politely, clearly showing he wasn't welcome.
Damien Gray seemed not to notice her gesture at all. He smiled gently, "Princess Consort, now that your bed is broken, should I share mine with you?"
Morgan Shangguan sneered, "Thank you for your kindness, Your Highness, but there are plenty of beds in this manor!"
"Oh..." Damien Gray nodded and said nothing more, turning to leave.
Morgan Shangguan watched his departing figure, frowning. Was he really this easy to persuade?
Soon, Morgan Shangguan heard a series of crashes from all over the manor. Susie Yun rushed in, not even bothering with her coat, and asked anxiously, "Miss, are you alright?" Ryan Ouyang followed close behind, his brow furrowed.
Susie Yun's room was a bit far from Morgan's, which was convenient, but since she had a ghostly husband, Morgan really didn't want to hear any strange noises at night.
Morgan Shangguan frowned and asked, "What happened?" Her instincts told her Damien Gray was involved.
Ryan Ouyang spoke up, "The manor's secret guards suddenly barged in and smashed our beds to pieces!"
Morgan's face darkened. Damn Damien Gray! Smashing beds? Judging by the noise earlier, the only bed left in the manor was probably his. Was he a child or what?
She never expected her first real look at the Ghost King's well-trained staff would be under these circumstances. Morgan snorted coldly and headed for the Ghost Chamber—if she couldn't sleep, no one else would either!
Bang! The door was kicked open. Damien Gray lounged on the bed, legs crossed, hands behind his head, looking utterly relaxed. He turned to the scowling Morgan Shangguan and smiled gently, "Princess Consort, have you changed your mind?"
