Why Are You Looking at Me Like That
Everyone looked over. Sure enough, thick smoke was billowing from the west.
"That's... the direction of the military camp!" Grace exclaimed, her eyes filled with doubt and surprise as she looked at Evan Xiao.
But Evan Xiao looked perfectly calm. He smiled and said, "Looks like it worked."
"What worked?"
"The spy—finally caught." Evan Xiao glanced at Grace. "Jason Zhuo pulled off a major achievement."
"Really? That's wonderful!" Grace said happily.
"By the way, General, Grace, how's Jason Zhuo's case going?" Bianca Whitefan asked.
She'd been involved, so she was concerned too.
"Leo Miles is stubborn—won't budge no matter what, and keeps blaming Jason Zhuo," Evan Xiao said. "It's hard to make any progress right now."
"So, even if my brother did something great, he still can't be rewarded?" Grace asked.
"Committed the crime of embezzlement while on duty—what reward could he possibly get?" Leon Zane chimed in gleefully. "He should be glad if he's not kicked out of the army!"
Grace looked at Leon Zane, suddenly tilting her head and sizing him up.
......
Leon Zane squirmed under her gaze and asked, "Why are you staring at me? Did I say something wrong?"
Grace suddenly flashed him a dazzling, friendly smile. "Absolutely right, Imperial Advisor!"
"Why are you smiling at me like that? You look way too suspicious," Leon Zane, ever perceptive, eyed her warily.
"Imperial Advisor, do you know what kind of person you are?"
Leon Zane said nothing, just eyed her suspiciously.
"In the eyes of every woman in Blue Moon Kingdom, you're the most knowledgeable, most talented, and most handsome man—like a living god! You know everything about the heavens and the earth, the past and the future! Your word is law, and you'd never go back on a promise or act like a coward, right?" Grace gushed enthusiastically.
"Of course!" Leon Zane felt his blood rush with pride. "Who do you think I am? I'd never break my word!"
"So, on the day of the Sacred Relic Festival, you promised me three things—you're definitely not going to go back on your word, right?" Grace flashed a bright smile, showing off her pearly whites.
Leon Zane's face changed, and after a long moment, he squeezed out, "Of course!"
Grace beamed. "Then I'll have to trouble you! My big brother's situation is the first condition."
"Your brother's case? Even Bianca couldn't sort it out—what do you expect me to do?"
"It's simple. Imperial Advisor, please go talk to Leo Miles and persuade him to confess."
"Me—go talk to him? I heard they tried a dozen different tortures and he still wouldn't confess. What good will my words do?"
"You don't know, do you?" Grace said mysteriously. "Your godlike image isn't just admired by women—even men respect you! If you go encourage him to tell the truth and be a good person, he'll definitely listen!"
"Ridiculous!" Leon Zane rolled his eyes at her.
"I'm serious!" Grace insisted. "Just meet him once and say what I tell you—he'll definitely change his ways!"
"What if he doesn't confess?"
"If he doesn't confess, it's my responsibility! It has nothing to do with you—just count it as you paying back one third of your favor to me!"
"Deal! It's a promise!"
......
Later, Evan Xiao asked her, "Why are you so sure Leon Zane will succeed?"
Grace's eyes sparkled as she leaned close to Evan Xiao and whispered a few words in his ear.
