Female Professor
Lily Evans watched Martin Wu, whose face was positively glowing with excitement. Only now did she notice that all the little trinkets Martin carried were much nicer than the last time they'd met.
Clearly, Martin Wu's family was doing much better financially now. And since it was Martin's sharp eye that brought them fortune, her status at home was more secure than ever.
Martin Wu finished speaking, nervously rubbing her hands as she looked at Professor Lily Evans. "Professor Evans, I have a favor to ask you."
"Oh?" Lily Evans raised an eyebrow. "I've just come back and you're already seeking me out. This isn't something bad, is it?"
Martin bit her lip, her voice dropping to a whisper. "Professor Evans, you know about... my situation."
Lily Evans nodded, understanding that Martin was referring to being a woman.
"Professor Evans, I'm the top student in my class, but graduation is coming soon. After that, I'll have to return home, and my parents will surely want to marry me off... But I—I don't want to get married." Martin's gaze was resolute. "I've studied so hard, day and night, not just to end up as someone's wife, spending my life raising children!"
"So what do you want to do?" Lily Evans looked at Martin Wu, admiration flickering in her eyes.
"I want to be a faculty member! I want to stay at the academy and teach!" Martin suddenly raised her voice, making Lily's ears ring.
Martin immediately realized she'd gotten too loud, stuck out her tongue, and lowered her voice. "Professor Evans, isn't the academy recruiting teachers? I'm the top student. If I pass the selection, can I stay on as a female faculty member?"
Lily Evans gazed into Martin Wu's eyes, astonished by the girl's bold ambition. Here was a woman, daring to aspire to become a professor at the country's most prestigious academy—a dream that defied convention!
This was just too... rebellious, too... exactly what Lily Evans liked!
But Lily Evans kept her thoughts hidden, giving Martin Wu a careful once-over. "Martin Wu, do you realize how tough it is to get through the faculty selection at the academy? Do you really believe you can pass?"
Martin Wu's eyes lit up—there was hope! She shot back with swagger, "Professor Evans, if I dare to take the exam, will you dare to accept me as your colleague?"
Lily Evans burst out laughing at Martin Wu's gutsy, trailblazing spirit. "The selection exam is tougher than anything you've faced in class, Martin Wu. Prove yourself first, then we'll talk about you joining as a female professor!"
Martin Wu was sharp—she instantly picked up on what Professor Evans was hinting at.
If Professor Jade Evans was letting her take the test, it meant that as long as she passed, she'd be welcomed to teach!
Martin Wu was over the moon. She'd never imagined that Professor Jade Evans would not only overlook her being a woman and help her keep her secret, but also support her in joining the faculty selection!
"Professor Evans, I promise I won't let you down!" Martin Wu stood, gave Lily Evans a deep, respectful bow, and then strode out of the room with a confidence that filled the doorway.
Lola watched Martin Wu's departing figure, and though she was still so young, her smile held all the gentle pride of an older sister.
Lily Evans caught Lola's expression and teased, "You're the one teaching them now. What do you think of Martin Wu's ability? Can she pass the selection exam?"
Lola turned, pointed at the bookshelf behind Lily Evans, and replied, "While you were recovering, Martin Wu not only aced her classes, but also borrowed every advanced mathematics and physics textbook you left behind—and taught herself the lot."
Lola's answer truly surprised Lily Evans. She hadn't realized Martin Wu was both naturally gifted and so fiercely hardworking.
Lily Evans pressed her lips together, shared a knowing smile with Lola, and thought: Looks like the academy is about to welcome another trailblazing female professor.
Tsk tsk, those men who fancy themselves superior, who think women are foolish—who would have guessed that in the nation's top mathematics academy, the three leading professors are all women!
