The Most Annoying Sister-in-Law, The Most Wonderful Sister-in-Law (Part 2)
If you dig into the past with Dreamsea Recall, you’ll notice Maggie Monroe’s behavior during the heart demon incident was always a bit... off. She was the one who called Teacher Yang to Shanghai, she brokered the whole fake wedding with Qi Xi, and she worked all angles to finally help Teacher Yang break free from his inner demons. Credit where credit’s due—Maggie really pulled her weight in that mess.
But to be a little shameless about it: honestly, she could’ve done even more. She was there two years ago, so she knows exactly what went down between Qi Xi and Yang Qi. Plus, she’s basically the OG who taught Teacher Yang the basics of the Lunmai Technique, so she’s got a way deeper read on his mental state than anyone else. She should’ve noticed something was off with him ages ago, and could’ve just told Yang Qi everything—heck, even if Teacher Yang was already lost to his demons and wouldn’t listen, she could’ve at least given Aunt Yang and Big Bro a heads-up.
And let’s not forget—she’s a total master with the mysterious Eighth Wheel in the Lunmai Technique. She could’ve easily come up with some wild, out-of-the-box solution way earlier.
She could’ve done a lot more.
And honestly, given her personality, her position, and her feelings, she really should’ve.
But she didn’t.
For the longest time, she kept herself at this weird, not-too-close, not-too-far distance—always sort of involved, but mostly just watching and witnessing. It wasn’t until Teacher Yang went missing after switching to safe mode at the concert that she finally jumped in, all guns blazing.
There’s definitely something fishy about all this, but after thinking it through, Teacher Yang is sure the problem isn’t Maggie. He trusts her completely, no doubts. As for her odd behavior—he was stumped at first, but once he learned about Dream Monroe, everything started to make a weird kind of sense.
It had to be Dream Monroe pulling Maggie’s strings behind the scenes.
Teacher Yang had his suspicions about Maggie and Dream Monroe for a while. After the big blow-up in Shanghai on October 19th, he hustled everyone out of the lockdown zone and booked it to Hong Kong to dodge the heat. He grilled Aunt Yang and the rest about what they saw that day, and after hearing their stories, he started to piece together Dream Monroe’s real origin.
Maybe, the relationship between Dream Monroe and Maggie Monroe is basically a mirror image of the one between Jill Young and herself.
And with that kind of relationship, everything that should've been simple suddenly gets complicated—and way more interesting.
After Jill Young came back to Earth, she kept stressing about what to do when she finally saw Maggie again. She thought about it till her brain hurt, then just yelled, “Ugh, my head’s gonna explode! Forget it, whatever happens happens!” and face-planted straight into bed. Meeting Maggie was already going to be a weird mess, but now—surprise!—it wasn’t even Maggie, it was Dream Monroe!
Double the twins plus double the twins—twins squared!
Seriously, what even is the relationship between me and Dream Monroe? Somebody draw me a chart!
Truth only comes out when you argue about it, right? Jill Young snapped her fingers and got all philosophical: “So, you’re my sister-in-law?”
The word 'sister-in-law' hit Dream Monroe like a slap. She instantly lost it: “Who’s your sister-in-law?!”
“Relax, relax, I’m just exploring the topic,” Jill said cool as a cucumber. Out of nowhere, she popped on a pair of glasses, pushed them up her nose, and struck a pose like a frosty, super-serious scientist. “Look, I know exactly who you are, and since we’re both human saints—okay, maybe you’re a bit higher up, like a first-level unlimited goddess or whatever crazy title you’ve got. So you for sure know who I am.”
Dream Monroe nodded with pride: “Of course, I saw right through you in a second.”
“Since we both know exactly what’s up with each other, if you’re not my sister-in-law, then…” Jill picked up her teacup. Dream Monroe’s eyes flashed—she suddenly remembered she’d just drunk from that cup. She watched Jill lift the cup, open her mouth, and stick out her clever little tongue, and suddenly got a very bad feeling.
“You’re about to be…” And just like that, Jill flashed a weird grin and licked the cup!
Her rosy tongue touched the rim, slid upward, and at the very edge, flicked out a little 'buzz.' Jill’s lips curled into a wild grin, her sharp canine glinting in the sunlight. She tilted her head, eyes sparkling with mischief and allure: “Good little baby—Lacey Dream?”
Dream Monroe, realizing Jill had just licked where she drank, felt like she’d been clubbed in the head—and even worse, totally violated. She tried to hold it in, but finally slapped the table, goddess composure gone: “What the hell are you doing?! Can you get any grosser?!”
“Weren’t you the one who said, ‘I can’t fall for men, I’m totally gay~’? That’s coming out in public, bold move!” Jill squeezed her voice into a mocking tone, grinning: “Lucky for you, I’ve got all kinds—boys, girls, whatever! Sweet little Lacey, darling Dream, why don’t you just hop into my bowl?”
Dream Monroe was so mad she nearly lost her breath. In her mind, Jill Young was always annoying, but honestly, she was usually pretty polite. Dream had rehearsed every breakup scenario—artsy, tragic, furious, you name it. She thought she was ready for anything.
But never in a million years did she expect to deal with this—someone so shameless! Jill just kept stirring the pot, mixing things up, totally relentless. Dream Monroe, on the verge of losing it, decided to cut the nonsense and get it over with!
“Boys, girls—what nonsense! There’s nothing between us!” Dream Monroe took a deep breath, her face turning cold and distant. “I’m here to break up. I felt a little guilty at first, but seeing you like this? I don’t feel sorry at all.”
“Break up?” To Dream Monroe’s shock, Jill Young didn’t flinch. No rage, no desperate pleas—she just pushed up her glasses again, cool as ever: “Breakup, don’t breakup, whatever—let’s put that aside for now.”
“Put it aside?!” Dream Monroe stared wide-eyed. “You call this a small thing?!”
“Don’t interrupt, I’m thinking about something important.” Jill Young pinched her chin, acting all serious. “I’m just saying, if you and I really have nothing between us, then that means you’re not Maggie and I’m not the big blockhead. So if that’s the case—why are you breaking up with me? We never had anything! Sure, you’re cute, but breaking up with a total stranger? That’s just narcissistic.”
“I…” Dream Monroe stammered, “I’m here on Maggie’s behalf…”
“Request denied.” Jill Young shook her head. “If you can break up on someone’s behalf, does that mean you can sign a marriage certificate for them too? You’re not Maggie, I’m not the blockhead—anything you say to me is pointless, because ‘there’s nothing between us!’ Just bring Maggie here instead.”
Bring Maggie here? No way! First, she and Maggie are swapping control now; only Dream Monroe can walk the world this time. Second, if Maggie really did show up, she’d never break up—she’d probably just dive straight into her lover’s arms! Dream Monroe rushed over now just to get it done while Maggie’s ‘away,’ to finally cut the cord!
So Dream Monroe took a deep breath: “The Axis of the World has six odds and six evens. I believe you haven’t awakened yet, but you must be one of the six evens. As evens, you and I are different from everyone else—so talking to you is different, too.”
“Oh, so now you admit I’m him? Well, in that case, I disagree even more.” Jill Young replied, totally unfazed. “You’re out, I’ve got girls. You switch back, I’ve got boys. We’re a match made in heaven! Break up? You must be nuts.”
Dream Monroe stood her ground, no backing down: “Say whatever you want, but I’m breaking up with you. I can’t stand being with you.”
Faced with this, Jill Young crossed her arms and thought for a moment, then calmly said, “Then prove it.”
“Prove it how?”
“It’s tradition with me and Qi Xi—you have to let me hug you.” Jill Young spread her arms, wearing a weird smile. “Come here, baby, let me hold you, let me listen to your heartbeat, and see if you really mean what you say.”
“I refuse!” Dream Monroe shot to her feet. “I’ve said my piece, and you don’t get to bargain. Jill Young, we’re done—never seeing you again!”
Clap clap clap—Dream Monroe strode out. To keep herself from showing any weakness, she slowed her breathing and made sure her footsteps stayed steady.
No way was she going to look weak in front of that white-haired woman. She was leaving strong, giving Jill Young a back view she could never catch!
But then Jill Young’s voice floated over, totally unfazed: “Alright, let’s break up.”
Dream Monroe slowed down, not looking back. “You agree?” For some reason, instead of relief, her heart twisted up and she could barely breathe.
“Of course I agree, why wouldn’t I? No big deal.” Jill Young lounged back on the sofa, grinning. “You leave, there’s millions more.”
That suffocation snapped into anger. Dream Monroe couldn’t help but shout, “Millions?!”
“What, you don’t believe me? Who do you think I am? Still that struggling office worker in Tianjin? Still that guy trailing behind Qi Xi, begging for scraps? Please—I’m way past that!”
Jill Young’s gaze was electric, piercing straight through Dream Monroe’s back. She suddenly radiated wild, unstoppable confidence, her aura filling the room: “Listen up, sweetheart, I’m the Eternal Night Queen! I run this place, I own this place! One word from me and beauties will be lining up to throw themselves at me—tall, short, thick, thin, I get them all. Goddess? Ha! I can have as many as I want! You really think you’re all that? Go wherever you want, I won’t stop you.”
Dream Monroe froze, fists clenched, teeth grinding. She forced out, “Well, then—I hope you have a wonderful life!”
Jill Young clasped her hands like she was wishing a happy new year to Dream Monroe’s back: “Thanks, thanks, I’ll take your blessing—and may you have kids soon!”
Bang! Dream Monroe shoved open the door and vanished in a flash of starlight. Her furious teeth-grinding echoed through the hall. Jill Young sat alone, watching her go, and suddenly pulled out her phone.
“Hey, Apollo, get me a yacht. And fill it with beautiful women—I’m heading out to sea. Yep, you heard me, beauties. That’s my thing! Oh, and call up my little darlings too. Anyway, half an hour from now, I want to be sailing off, riding the waves and... other curves!”
Beep—Jill Young hung up and flashed a wicked grin.
Break up? Ha! That sister-in-law is a riot.
