Chapter 358: Ghostly Evil Dragon
Herman made his decision almost instantly: he would label this young mage as a battlemage from the Caucasus. That way, Mercury Tower would be accused of harboring a battlemage—an offense they couldn’t possibly escape. Given the Black Tower’s long-standing hatred for battlemages, a massive conflict between the two powers was inevitable. When the time came, whether as a bargaining chip or something else, he might just have a way to obtain the new coordinates for the Sungold Plane...
And right now, Leon had one advantage...
Of the two Evil Dragon eyes needed to craft the Eyes of Catastrophe, Lord Shaun had already fused with one. If Leon could get the other, he could skip the alchemy entirely—just let Lord Shaun fuse it, and if his luck held, there was a good chance of getting an Eye of Catastrophe!
"I..." Hearing Leon’s question, Herman hesitated again.
Even now, Herman still believed his plan was flawless...
Meanwhile, Leon returned to the alchemy lab...
It took Leon nearly two days to separate the Elemental Amber from the tip of the Soulbound Staff.
During his fight with Herman, Leon had used the Soulbound Staff to touch the Hand of Devouring. Suas, who watched the whole thing, thought it was a terrible idea. Suas believed Leon had plenty of ways to counter the Hand of Devouring—keeping his distance, suppressing mana, and so on. But the dumbest move was direct contact...
Even at the end, when Leon used his Mana Harness and two Alchemical Vortexes to collapse Herman’s mana, Suas still insisted that Leon’s earlier move was the biggest mistake of the fight.
Leon never told Suas—it was on purpose...
Yes, he did it deliberately...
In fact, the moment the Hand of Devouring appeared, Leon had already analyzed its power with his Mana Harness. Of course he knew not to touch it directly. Honestly, he had plenty of ways to deal with the Hand of Devouring—he didn’t even need the Mana Harness or Alchemical Vortex...
But in the end, he did it anyway.
To think Herman actually had such a method—Leon’s eyes lit up with excitement.
Because Leon wanted to exploit the Hand of Devouring’s properties—to use them to break down the alchemical array inside the Soulbound Relic, reducing it to an ordinary object.
After being ravaged by a dozen surges of mana, his Mana Vortex was left in tatters. Recovery was a distant dream. Until then, he’d be lucky to have the power of an eighth- or ninth-level mage—Suas could crush him, let alone this weird young mage standing before him...
...Leon felt his hopes dashed.
"You’re sure you can get the second eye?" Leon knew a thing or two about Abyssal Evil Dragons. In legend, when an Abyssal Evil Dragon dies, all its evil and resentment is released, fusing with its lingering spirit to become a terrifying Ghostly Evil Dragon...
But that’s exactly what Leon wanted...
Because the Doombringer Staff was nearly complete, the Soulbound Staff was barely useful anymore. Its only purpose was to use the Elemental Amber to recharge mana.
But Elemental Amber had many uses—it didn’t need to be stuck in a weapon. So lately, Leon had been trying all sorts of ways to separate it from the Soulbound Staff, but nothing worked. The staff was a top-tier Soulbound Relic, and forcing the Elemental Amber out would only damage it.
That’s how Leon came up with this plan...
He used the Hand of Devouring’s properties to break down the alchemical array in the Soulbound Relic, destroying it so he could remove the Elemental Amber intact.
But after separating it, Leon hesitated about what to do with the Elemental Amber...
After what happened with the Soulbound Staff, Leon refused to use the Elemental Amber in an ordinary relic again. Ordinary relics just couldn’t last in his hands, and it was better to embed the Elemental Amber in something truly important than to have to destroy another alchemical array later...
"I... I know a secret." Herman hesitated for a long time before finally making up his mind. He gritted his teeth and said, "But if I tell you, you have to guarantee my safe departure—and you can’t make things difficult for me!"
"Deal." Lin Yun agreed without a second thought. He’d never planned to kill Herman anyway. Besides, with his Mana Vortex so badly damaged, Herman was basically a cripple. Who knew how many years it would take to recover his strength—if he ever could. Revenge was out of the question for him now...
"I know a way to bypass the Ghostly Evil Dragon..."
"Oh?" This time, Lin Yun was genuinely interested. After all, Mercury Tower had been attacking the Seven Magic Cities so fiercely, and at least half the reason was because of the Ghostly Evil Dragon.
A Ghostly Evil Dragon born of resentment and evil is truly terrifying...
Mercury Tower had to do everything in its power to weaken it. Their method? Capture the Seven Magic Cities and cut off the Ghostly Evil Dragon’s source of strength.
If there were a way to bypass the Ghostly Evil Dragon and seize the Abyssal Evil Dragon’s corpse directly, Mercury Tower would lose its mind over it...

To think Herman actually had such a method—Lin Yun’s eyes instantly lit up...
But unfortunately, Herman immediately followed up with...
"But this method has a lot of limitations. At best, you’ll get a few scales. The fact that I managed to get an eye last time was already incredibly lucky..."
...Lin Yun was instantly deflated.
Oh well...
Even getting a single eye would be an incredible haul.
Two Abyssal Evil Dragon eyes could be used to craft the Eyes of Catastrophe.
That’s a true Essence Relic—at least ten times stronger than the Eye of the Evil Dragon!
And right now, Lin Yun had one advantage...
Of the two Evil Dragon eyes needed to craft the Eyes of Catastrophe, Lord Shaun had already fused with one. If Lin Yun could get the other, he could skip the alchemy entirely—just let Lord Shaun fuse it, and if his luck held, there was a good chance of getting an Eye of Catastrophe!
"Alright, tell me how to bypass the Ghostly Evil Dragon, and then you’re free to go..."
An hour later, Herman limped out of Mercury Tower.
Meanwhile, Lin Yun returned to the alchemy lab...

But in the end, he did it anyway.
Why?
Because Lin Yun wanted to exploit the Hand of Devouring’s properties—to use them to break down the alchemical array inside the Soulbound Relic, reducing it to an ordinary object.
It sounds almost unbelievable...
Why would anyone deliberately damage a perfectly good Soulbound Relic?
If word got out, nobody would believe it.
But that’s exactly what Lin Yun wanted...
