Yun Family Sanctuary

1/4/2026

"The library I showed you before is just a drop in the bucket compared to the Yun Family’s true collection. The real number of books we own is counted in tens of billions. Do you understand?" Mr. Yun said proudly. "You could say our Yun Family has preserved the entirety of global civilization’s progress over the past centuries. So, when it comes to our medicines, how could they possibly be outdated? The so-called Yun Family Sanctuary is a secret research facility hidden deep within our family. It gathers the world’s top pharmaceutical analysis and application experts. Honestly, we may not be the best at surgery, but in pharmacology, no one in the world can match us."

"The medicine Jane Gu took all those years ago was produced right here in the Yun Family Sanctuary. You know, our ancestors once served as officials in the imperial court or as doctors in the palace, so we had access to the most comprehensive range of medicinal materials—whether to heal or to harm, we had it all. Many of these secret formulas have been lost to the outside world, but they’re all preserved within our Yun Family." Mr. Yun continued, "When you think about it, this research facility is almost too extraordinary for the country to allow such a secret place to exist. That’s why the Yun Family Sanctuary isn’t in China at all, but on a small island in Indonesia. That island is our family’s last stronghold. We purchased it a long time ago, and most of our archives and research base are located there."

Cecilia Gu listened to all this in shock, as if she were dreaming.

"Another pillar of the Yun Family’s business is tea. But after Nono passed away, I lost the heart to keep fighting, so our business shrank again and again, leaving less than a hundred stores worldwide. Your aunt later relied on jewelry to make a breakthrough, barely keeping up with the Yun Family’s huge expenses. If it weren’t for her, our family would have run out of resources long ago. After all, supporting a research facility costs a fortune." Mr. Yun continued.

Cecilia Gu nodded.

That part she could understand.

It’s true, supporting a research facility is no small expense.

No wonder, with so many businesses, the Yun Family still lived so frugally.

Turns out all their money was poured into that research facility.

Of course, it’s not like the Yun Family is poor. But compared to those big tycoons, they’re definitely on the modest side financially.

Look at Charles Yin, Max Mo, Eric Jiang, or even Joe Qi—aren’t they all ridiculously wealthy?

But the Yun Family always came across as super, super low-key—so low-key they seemed almost like an ordinary middle-class family.

Cecilia Gu only now realized, it wasn’t just low-key—they really didn’t have money!

"To get to the Yun Family Sanctuary, you’ll need to take the family’s private jet to Indonesia. It’ll take quite a bit of time both ways. While you’re there, the doctors at the research facility can give you a full check-up. Don’t worry—their technology is way more advanced than anything at the Yin Consortium’s hospital." Mr. Yun smiled gently. "Your mother and I will go with you. Don’t worry, as long as I’m here, no one in this world can hurt you."

Cecilia Gu couldn’t help but nod obediently.

No matter what, the man sitting in front of her was her biological father.

And he was a victim too.

A poor father who only found out his daughter was alive after twenty-three years!

A pitiful man toyed with by his own mother!

"Thank you, Dad." Cecilia Gu said softly. All the hostility she’d felt in the ancestral hall facing Grandma Yun had long since melted away, replaced by genuine affection.

"In the past, I was a useless father—I didn’t know you were suffering so much out there. Now that you’re back, even if it means breaking with your grandmother, I won’t let anything happen to you." Mr. Yun said, deeply and resolutely. "I only have you and Nora as daughters. I’ve already lost one. If I can’t protect you... what’s the point of my life?"

Cecilia Gu was deeply moved.

"Rest for a bit. The flight from the Yun Family to Indonesia requires two layovers. It won’t take too long to get there, but entering the research facility is still a hassle." Mr. Yun patted Cecilia Gu’s shoulder. "I’ll go help your mother get ready. We’ll leave soon."

Cecilia Gu nodded firmly.

She watched Mr. Yun leave and sighed deeply.

So this was the Yun Family’s trump card—so unbelievably rich in resources.

For most people, money is what gives you confidence.

The Yun Family’s confidence wasn’t money—it was the legacy of civilization itself!

Classic literature, textbooks, and countless other volumes—these things can’t be measured by money!

Cecilia Gu didn’t have much to prepare. She hadn’t even brought an assistant this time, so she was traveling light and ready to get things done quickly.

But after Cecilia Gu boarded the plane, she found that Mrs. Yun had still arranged for four maids to take care of her. In the end, Cecilia didn’t refuse her mother’s kindness.

Mrs. Yun didn’t say anything, just held Cecilia Gu’s hand tightly, unwilling to let go.

A daughter returned from the brink—there’s nothing more precious to a mother.

Cecilia Gu was about to become a mother herself, so she understood Mrs. Yun’s feelings. She didn’t resist, letting her mother hold her hand and share her emotions.

"Cici... If the Grant Family Heritage Code really makes things too hard for you, then once you get Jane Gu’s medicine, just leave the Yun Family. I’d rather pretend you were gone twenty-three years ago than see you suffer now." Mrs. Yun, being a mother, felt nothing but heartbreak for her daughter. The thought of Cecilia having to divorce Charles Yin after giving birth, and then being so lovesick she got sick herself, made Mrs. Yun feel like her world was collapsing.

You only truly understand a parent’s love once you have children of your own.

Cecilia Gu instantly understood what Mrs. Yun meant.

"Mom, have you always missed me?" Cecilia Gu asked softly.

"Of course I have, how could I not? I’ve missed you for twenty-three years! My own child, how could I not? More than once I thought, if I’d followed the research facility’s advice and aborted one of the twins during pregnancy, would you have grown up by my side?" Mrs. Yun said painfully. "But then I remembered Nora was the weaker one. If I’d listened to the doctors, Nora would have been the one to die, and that would have hurt just as much... Cici, I’m sorry. It’s all my fault!"

Cecilia Gu wrapped her arms around Mrs. Yun’s neck, leaning on her like a child. "Mom, this isn’t your fault! Sometimes life just plays tricks on us…"

Whether it was the palm or the back of her hand, both were flesh and blood—no matter who Mrs. Yun gave up, it would have killed her.

The plane soon arrived in Indonesia. After landing, they switched planes and flew again.

After two layovers, Cecilia Gu finally stood on the small island where the research facility was located.

Mr. Yun explained, "From a legal standpoint, this island doesn’t exist anymore. Years ago, a tsunami supposedly wiped it out. But that was just a cover. For safety, we actually created an artificial tsunami to erase all signals from the island. To the outside world, it’s just open ocean, but in reality, the island is still here. We had to do this—the things here are too important. Whether it’s the Yun Family Archives or the research facility, no one outside can know. That’s why we call it the Yun Family Sanctuary, not the Yun Family Pharmaceutical Research Institute."

Cecilia Gu nodded in understanding.

A family with centuries of heritage—of course they’d have tricks up their sleeve.

It’s true—a skinny camel is still bigger than a horse!

Even if the Yun Family has fallen on hard times, ranking outside the top hundred in Kingston, their cultural status is unmatched—no one can compete!

Mr. Yun continued, "We’ll have to go through a long security checkpoint soon. They’ll verify your identity and take a blood sample for analysis. Only direct Yun descendants can enter here—no one else is allowed."

Suddenly, Cecilia Gu understood what Grandma Yun meant when she said Cherry Yun’s name was only listed under the direct Yun line to confuse outsiders. That confusion was probably to deal with those scheming people outside, right?

Because Cherry Yun doesn’t have the direct Yun bloodline—even if someone kidnapped her and tried to extract her bone marrow, she’d never get into this research facility.

No wonder, back when Cherry Yun messed around with a married man, the Yun Family didn’t say a word.

She was just a pawn—who would care what happened to a discarded piece?

Finally, Cecilia Gu sorted out all the complex Yun Family relationships and understood why Cherry Yun’s scandal was really just a joke to them.

The sad thing was, Cherry Yun actually thought she was the Yun Family heir, and kept seeing Cecilia as her enemy.

If she knew the truth, what kind of expression would she have?

Sure enough, along the way, there were several checkpoints—all testing Cecilia Gu’s blood, fingerprints, and iris.

By the time Cecilia Gu finally reached the research facility, several hours had already passed.

Cecilia Gu, carrying her belly, had walked for so long she was truly tired.

Mr. and Mrs. Yun took Cecilia Gu to the lounge to rest first.

As soon as Cecilia Gu entered the lounge, she realized it was something special.

The whole lounge was made of transparent glass, so you could see countless busy figures in the offices below.

Cecilia Gu sat on the sofa. Mrs. Yun poured her a glass of water and said, "This water is purified from seawater—see if you can get used to it?"

Cecilia Gu shook her head. "I’m not picky. As long as it’s healthy and clean, it’s fine. ...Wait, what’s that?"

Her gaze fell on a corner, pointing at a surveillance screen.
