After hearing this, Evan Chu felt a bit puzzled—what did they want with him at this hour? Could it be that Ying Wanxiong had made some kind of move?
Right now, Evan had no choice but to listen to Skylar Yule—at least for now, the Second Prince wouldn’t harm him.
"Understood, I’ll be there right away!" Evan answered immediately.
But when he stepped out of his room, the maid who’d brought the message was already gone, leaving Evan a bit speechless. The Second Prince’s mansion was so huge—even the so-called main hall could be anywhere: east, west, north, south, he couldn’t tell. And now, in the middle of the night, how was he supposed to find his way?
Standing at the doorway, Evan thought for a moment and decided to head toward the banquet hall. Even if he went the wrong way, he’d at least run into someone—he could just ask for directions.
He definitely didn’t dare wander around right now—the place was heavily guarded, and one wrong move could get him treated as an assassin. That was a risk Evan wasn’t about to take.
He quickly arrived at the place where they’d had drinks earlier, and found the hall still brightly lit—several people inside were deep in conversation.
Stepping inside, Evan saw Skylar Yule, the old master, and a mysterious black-veiled woman in a bamboo hat all looking at him.
"Logan Zhao, you’re here? We were just talking about you!" Skylar said.
"I don’t know why the Second Prince summoned me at this hour—did I do something wrong?" Evan asked, noticing the odd looks on Skylar and the old master’s faces.
Skylar’s expression was calm as he said, "Heh, Logan Zhao, who are you really? You can just tell us the truth—there are no outsiders here, so there’s no need to hide anything. If you have any difficulties, I’ll do my best to help you solve them."
The words rang in Evan’s ears, and he couldn’t help but feel something was off. From what Skylar was saying, it sounded like he already knew something.
Evan knew he couldn’t hesitate right now—he had to answer immediately, or he’d only make them more suspicious. "I’m Logan Zhao. I don’t know why the Second Prince is asking me this."
After Evan finished speaking, Skylar didn’t reply. Instead, the old master opened his mouth first: "Impudent! How dare you lie in front of the Second Prince? Do you believe I won’t kill you right here and now?"
Evan realized something had definitely leaked—his identity was probably exposed. He glanced at the veiled woman in the bamboo hat, suspicion rising in his heart: "Could it be this woman spilled the secret? Otherwise, why summon me in the middle of the night?"
Her figure seemed familiar, but Evan couldn’t be sure—he felt like he was riding a tiger and couldn’t get off.
"I’m telling the truth. If you want to kill me, go ahead—but you’d better make sure you’re strong enough first," Evan retorted immediately.
Even though the other side was powerful, Evan wasn’t the type to grovel or beg. If they thought they could intimidate him with brute force, they were dead wrong.
As soon as the old master heard this, he unleashed a suffocating aura that made Evan’s chest ache—like a mountain of iron pressing down on him, almost unbearable.
"Enough, Elder Wang. Withdraw your aura—if you injure my honored guest, that won’t be a good thing," Skylar said.
Evan felt completely lost—one moment they were playing good cop, the next bad cop. What exactly were they trying to do?
He looked straight at Skylar and said, "If the Second Prince has something to say, just say it. No need to beat around the bush. If you don’t want me here, I’ll leave right now. I don’t play these games—I’ve never been one to swallow this kind of crap."
He was already thinking: if they really made a move against him, how would he escape?
Skylar laughed. "Heh, Bullard—I didn’t get it wrong, did I? I never thought you were in disguise at the Valorcrest auction in Xuanwu City. Since you’ve come to the capital, why not come to me directly? Didn’t I give you a token back then?"
When Evan heard this, his face changed instantly—he hadn’t expected his identity to be truly exposed. He was a wanted criminal across the entire Heavenly Dragon Empire, and now he really was a sheep in a tiger’s jaws.
There was no point trying to argue now—he could only wait and see what they planned to do. If they really saw him as a criminal, he was probably already under arrest; there’d be no need for all this talk.
"The Second Prince’s intelligence is impressive. I just want to know—when did you discover my identity? Are you planning to hand me over to the Sea Dragon Empire to calm the war between our two nations?" Evan asked.
He walked over to a chair and sat down. Since his identity was exposed, there was no point in humiliating himself any further.
Skylar replied calmly, not caring at all about Evan’s attitude: "If I wanted to arrest you, I wouldn’t have waited until now, or sent someone to invite you so politely. Don’t forget—we’re friends."
Just then, Luna’s voice suddenly echoed in Evan’s mind: "Evan, you really are clueless. You don’t recognize that woman? She’s Selena, the Dream Maiden! Who else would know your identity?"
The revelation made Evan jump up from his chair in shock. He strode straight over to Selena.
The three others watched Evan’s sudden, out-of-character move with surprise. He snatched the bamboo hat off Selena’s head so quickly she couldn’t dodge.
"Selena, you actually sold me out! I really misjudged you!" Evan flung the hat aside, his voice angry.
His impulsive move startled Skylar—he knew Selena was a terrifying Divine Martial powerhouse, someone even Elder Wang couldn’t handle. Evan’s outburst could easily provoke her wrath.
But to everyone’s surprise, Selena didn’t get angry. Instead, she spoke in a soft, teasing voice, almost like a lover: "Evan, after all these days apart, did you miss me?"
Her words were pure flirtation, leaving Evan, Skylar, and the old master all stunned—especially Evan, who felt a chill run down his spine. He instantly regretted snatching her hat just now.
Selena was a demonic witch—Evan had experienced her methods firsthand. With a casual wave she could make him cough blood; she was not someone he could afford to provoke.
He hurriedly changed the subject: "Why are you here? Didn’t you have important matters elsewhere?"
Selena laughed. "You’re still the same, always answering questions with questions. Of course I came to protect you—now you’re famous across the Heavenly Dragon Empire, and countless people want to catch you for a reward." Her voice was as seductive as ever.
"So ‘protecting’ me means exposing my background? How did you know I was here? You only just arrived, didn’t you?" Evan pressed.
Selena tilted her head and smiled, totally confident: "You know my powers are vast—I hardly need to investigate such a trivial matter myself. The moonlight tonight is beautiful. How about we go out for a walk?"
"Isn’t it a bit late for that?" Evan replied awkwardly. Going out with her was dangerous—who knew what trouble she’d stir up? He was honestly a bit scared of her.
"What did you say?" Selena’s tone suddenly turned cold, her eyes boring straight into Evan.
Evan cursed inwardly—she really was a witch, changing moods in an instant.
"It’s nothing. Since a beautiful woman is inviting me, I suppose going out for a stroll wouldn’t be so bad." Evan gave in helplessly. He could get angry at anyone else, but when it came to Selena, he didn’t dare say no...
