Kidnapping the Child
At the entrance of Haizi Village, a carriage rushed hurriedly toward the village. Many worried villagers recognized it as the carriage from the Su Li family.
"How is it? Has the child been found?" Villagers passing by anxiously shouted into the carriage.
Soon, a large group of villagers followed behind the carriage. Everyone noticed that the carriage didn’t return to Su Li’s home but stopped straight at the Old Su Family’s gate.
Xiao Zetian was the first to get off the carriage, followed immediately by Wu Caiwei rushing out anxiously, pounding on the door: "Open up! Give me back my son!"
The villagers exchanged glances upon hearing Wu Caiwei’s words: her son was kidnapped by bandits, so why was she now at the Old Su Family demanding her child?
The Old Su Family’s gate was tightly shut. Inside, Su Daqi and Old Su Dad paced anxiously, stomping their feet: "It’s all that damn pair of women, insisting on coming along. Now we’ve probably been found out and they’ve come looking for us!"
Su Daqi said, "Dad, what should we do now?"
Old Su Dad sighed, "What else can we do? Don’t answer, just pretend we’re not home!"
Su Daqi shrank his neck nervously: "Is that going to work? You can’t run away from your shadow!"
Old Su Dad glared, "Look at you, such a coward! That scaredy-cat look! Wu Caiwei’s son is in our hands, what do we have to fear? She’s willing to pay a hundred thousand taels of silver to the bandits for her son. That child has been living with us for days now. I bet we can get a hefty ransom of tens of thousands of taels before returning the boy."
Su Daqi’s eyes immediately lit up, giving a thumbs up: "Awesome! Dad, you’re the best!"
Wu Caiwei pounded on the door for a while, and seeing it didn’t open, she turned to look at Su Li for help.
Su Li said to Xiao Zetian, "They must be home. Break the door down!"
Xiao Zetian responded with a grunt, raised his foot, and kicked the heavy Old Su Family gate open like it was paper. It flew off and crashed inside the courtyard with a loud crash.
Wu Caiwei immediately rushed inside, seeing Su Daqi, her eyes red as she said, "Where is my son? Give me back my son now!"
Su Daqi stammered, stiffening his neck: "What are you talking about? I don’t understand. Didn’t bandits kidnap your son? Why are you looking for your son at my house?"
Old Su Dad also said, "Exactly, and you’ve damaged our door, you owe us compensation!"
"I’ll pay you back with your grandmother’s leg!" Wu Caiwei snapped angrily and slapped Old Su Dad hard across the face.
Old Su Dad clutched his face, his cheeks flushed with anger: "How dare you hit me! You little brat, how dare you hit your elder!"
"I’m not just going to hit you, I’m going to kick you too!" Wu Caiwei lifted her skirt and kicked Old Su Dad, who was blocking the way, knocking him to the ground. Protected by Xiao Zetian and Xiao Yun, the two rushed into Liu Ru’s room.
Liu Ru’s room was empty, with no sign of the child.
"Huh, where’s the child?" Liu Ru came down from the carriage and followed inside, anxiously saying, "The child is usually in my room, why is he missing now?"
Upon hearing this, Su Li quickly searched other rooms. None of the other rooms had the child, except that Su Meixiang’s door was closed.
Su Li gave a signal, and Xiao Zetian kicked open Su Meixiang’s door.
Inside the room, Su Meixiang sat on the bed, holding a child in her arms. She turned to look at Su Li, her single eye gleaming with a strange light. That gaze was like a venomous snake’s, sending a chill down Su Li’s spine.
Wu Caiwei followed right behind and lunged to snatch the child, but Su Meixiang dodged her.
Su Meixiang jumped down from the bed, holding the child, her gaze poisonous: "What are you doing? Coming to my house in broad daylight to snatch a child? Believe it or not, I’ll report you to the authorities and have you arrested!"
