The Banner Changes Over Raveneye Mountain

Meanwhile, the dozen or so beauties that Nick Carter had gathered from around the world were still draped in thin veils, huddled in terror on a few genuine leather sofas in the corner of the hall. None of them dared to run for the front door or escape through the back, as both exits were blocked by armed men from rival factions. Shivering in fear, they didn’t dare scream, only letting tears stream down their faces. Faced with such a situation, powerless to change their fate, all they could do was remain lost and helpless!

Boom—boom—bang—bang—! Suddenly, a series of violent explosions erupted outside the front door, quickly followed by rapid gunfire and waves of agonized screams. Clearly, two factions were engaged in a fierce firefight. The sudden chaos made the standoff inside the hall even tenser, with both sides ready to explode into violence at any moment.

“Shawn, is something happening outside?” At this moment, Fiona Tang in Shawn Young’s arms asked softly.

“Yeah, something’s going on. Don’t worry, I can handle it!” Shawn quickly comforted Fiona, carried her out of the hall, set her down behind a pillar, then stood up and summoned his inner energy, preparing to unleash a powerful spell to take out the armed men blocking the entrance.

Just then, a loud male voice rang out from outside the door: “Leo Chen has been captured alive by me! If you know what’s good for you, surrender now! Otherwise, I’ll kill you all on the spot!”

The forty or fifty armed men at the entrance turned around in shock, looking back to see Max holding a P5 assault rifle in one hand and dragging a man with the other. Several mercenaries stood beside him, and behind them were hundreds of heavily armed fighters, bristling with weapons. There were even two Humvee military jeeps with heavy machine guns mounted on top, their dark barrels pointed straight at the doorway. The man Max was dragging like a dead dog was none other than Leo Chen, who was now curled up, battered and bruised, his eyes blackened—obviously just beaten badly.

Rat-a-tat-tat—! Max slammed Leo Chen’s body onto the floor, then mercilessly raised his P5 assault rifle and fired a burst straight into Leo’s thigh.

“Aaaah—aaah—!” Leo Chen screamed like a slaughtered pig, his legs shattered by the bullets. He clutched his legs and rolled on the floor in agony, flesh torn and blood spurting from the wounds, quickly staining the floor red.

Max couldn’t care less about Leo’s pain. He strode forward, lifted his heavy military boot, and stomped directly on Leo’s wounded right leg, twisting it cruelly—“Aaaah! Just kill me already!” Leo trembled all over, howling in despair, looking absolutely pitiful.

“You see? Your boss Leo Chen is in my hands. I can kill him anytime I want. I’ll say it one more time—if you know what’s good for you, drop your weapons and surrender. Otherwise, don’t blame me for being ruthless!” Max shouted fiercely at the forty or fifty armed men at the entrance.

As Max roared, the mercenaries and hundreds of armed fighters behind him raised their weapons, making the atmosphere even more tense and deadly. The men at the entrance looked at each other, unsure who would make the first move, but soon they all threw down their guns and surrendered, squatting with their hands on their heads.

These forty or fifty armed men had originally been loyal to Leo Chen, just like the ones under Max—they were all Nick Carter’s underlings, basically on the same side. After Nick Carter disappeared, Leo Chen took temporary command. But now, seeing Leo’s downfall and knowing most of them were only in it for the money, they realized resisting meant certain death. Surrender was their only chance, so they didn’t hesitate.

“Heh heh—good! Since you’ve surrendered, I won’t make things hard for you. I’ve just received word—Nick Carter is finished, and Raveneye Mountain is leaderless. The Kachin army could arrive at any moment. You have two choices: join me and serve our new boss, who’s got real skills and a powerful background—way better than Nick Carter. Even if the Kachin army shows up, they’ll respect our new boss and leave you alone. The second choice—you won’t pick—is death! I’ll give you three seconds to decide. If you want to live, move to my right. If you don’t get it, I’ll send you straight to hell to think it over!” Max barked at the surrendered men, his years of military experience showing as he handled the situation.

As soon as Max finished speaking, the forty or fifty men squatting on the ground scrambled to the spot he pointed out, not hesitating for a second. Three seconds was too short—Max never intended to give them time to think.

“Heh, looks like you all know what’s good for you. Good! From now on, you follow me and work for the new boss. Whatever the new boss says, you obey. If anyone dares disobey, I’ll be the first to shoot them. Got it?” Max shouted, looking around fiercely.

“Got it!” The surrendered men joined the rest of the fighters on Raveneye Mountain, loudly pledging their loyalty. They all knew—Nick Carter was finished, Leo Chen was finished, and Raveneye Mountain had changed hands. If they wanted to survive, they had to follow the new boss. But after shouting their oath, they looked around in confusion—none of them knew who Max meant by the new boss!

Max kicked the unconscious, pain-wracked Leo Chen aside and told another mercenary to watch him. He then tossed his P5 assault rifle to the floor and strode into the palace hall, where he immediately spotted the wary Shawn Young.

“Sir! I didn’t let you down—Leo Chen is taken care of. From now on, you’re our new boss!” Max beamed with a fawning grin as soon as he saw Shawn Young.

“Me? I’m your new boss?” Shawn Young was momentarily stunned by the idea.

“That’s right! From now on, everyone on Raveneye Mountain is with you! You’re our new boss! Everything here is yours!” Max kept grinning obsequiously at Shawn.

“Uh—wait—are you saying that you, and all of Nick Carter’s former men, are now under my command?” Shawn finally snapped out of his shock.

“Exactly! Everything that belonged to Nick Carter is yours now, sir! Us included, and those women too! Heh heh—” Max replied loudly, sneaking glances at the sexy women in the hall and swallowing hard.

“Uh—why?!” Shawn blurted out, but immediately realized how dumb the question sounded.

“Haha—simple! According to the rules of the street, you won! Only you can keep us alive and well now. That’s how this world works!” Max answered, still smiling.

“Oh!” Shawn instantly understood—Max was right. That’s how the underworld works: only the strong have a voice. With the situation changing fast and the Kachin army possibly attacking at any moment, it was a classic case of ‘the king’s banner changes on the city wall.’ Whoever has the power holds the chips to carve up the territory. Taking these people in gave Shawn much more leverage to negotiate with the Kachin army.

Without hesitation, Shawn said to Max, “In that case, I won’t be shy! Now, I order you to gather all the surrendered men outside the main entrance—I’ll have my people come take over!”
