The Wraithlord

The world has nearly recovered, and the day when the gods depart is approaching. Everything is prepared—the gods will soon leave this world. Yet the lingering problem is the Sevenfold Seal Stones of the Wraithlord.

These fragments, split from the Heaven-Mending Stone, must be regularly nourished with Mother Goddess Nuwa's blood. Otherwise, the stones will shatter, and the seven soul fragments of the Wraithlord will be released. If the Wraithlord's three souls regain emotion and intelligence, a new nightmare will begin.

To prevent this tragedy from repeating, Mother Goddess Nuwa gathered all the surviving people. The only solution is to ensure that one of her pure-blooded descendants lives long enough—about every hundred years, the seal must be replenished with blood.

To maintain the purity of the bloodline, not only must the soul remain pure, but the flesh as well. Achieving this requires granting someone eternal life. Yet the gods worry that such a person, after enduring centuries of solitude and change, would eventually be unable to bear it. The mental torment would be immense.

So Mother Goddess Nuwa devised a solution: every century, the pure-blooded descendant would undergo reincarnation, passing the duty down through generations. Every hundred years, this person must use their own blood to restore the seal on the seven stones. After negotiating with the Wraithlord’s three children in Hell, it was decided—someone must step forward and accept this possibly eternal task.

Eventually, the person chosen for this infinite cycle would inevitably break. Born with memories, and required to be born naturally, the candidate was already decided: Loraine Locke. As the first woman granted eternal life, she would bear this mission. Loraine Locke agreed to the gods’ request.

Originally, it seemed Loraine Locke could simply use her blood to nourish the stones every hundred years. However, as a being similar to the Wraithlord, her blood holds immense power. Not only would this fail to stabilize the seal, it could even have the opposite effect—her blood might allow the Wraithlord’s sealed consciousness, emotions, and intelligence to leak out or even transfer into her.

Everyone present was puzzled. This heavy burden—repeated cycles of birth, aging, illness, and death—would be torment for anyone. Watching loved ones leave again and again, while being forced to repeat these experiences, is a hardship for those who are deeply emotional.

Someone must do it. After Mother Goddess Nuwa explained all the pros and cons, those remaining fell into deep thought, hesitating.

"Let me do it."
