Veil's Edge

"Where the hell did Lord Shenyan go?!"

Howard Zhang stood atop the treetop, gazing into the distance. I had already scouted the surroundings several times—it was all dense forest, with no sign of human habitation. As for the location of Hidden Falls Temple, we had absolutely no clue.

"Howard, try again—see if recalling your Buddhist fate does anything."

There was nothing else we could do but try. Howard Zhang sat cross-legged on the ground, eyes closed, quietly meditating for a while before shaking his head.

"It's useless. I can't sense anything at all."

Just then, a creaking sound came from under the tree. We looked down—it was Rachel Lan (Roxie), her expression calm, one hand pressed to the ground. The trampled flowers and grass, the toppled saplings, and even the stones shattered by Howard Zhang were all slowly dissolving into streaks of white light and vanishing. Then, those lights gradually reformed into their original shapes.

The flowers and saplings were now even more vibrant and lush than before, and the stones had changed too—they looked older than the ones we'd seen earlier, and seemed even harder than before.

"This power is really something special."

Howard Zhang muttered. I nodded, then floated down beside him. Rachel Lan (Roxie) was panting, beads of sweat gathering on her forehead. Worried, I wiped the sweat from her brow, then looked around—the environment had been restored, even better than before.

"It's best not to use this instinct recklessly until we understand it, Rachel Lan (Roxie)."

Rachel Lan (Roxie) gave a soft response as Howard Zhang quickly climbed down from the tree.

"Since we're just sitting around, let's see if we can find something to eat."

I responded with a simple 'okay.' Howard Zhang pointed off into the distance.

"Let's go that way."

"Why?"

"No idea."

With one arm holding Rachel Lan (Roxie) and the other supporting Howard Zhang, I flew straight toward the direction Howard had indicated. The forest grew denser, and looking down, there was almost nowhere to land.

"Hold on, Howard—why did we come here?"

I stopped and landed on a larger tree.

"Doesn't look like there are any animals around."
