"Hahaha!" Hearing Ian Song's words, Conrad Gu couldn't help but burst out laughing. After a moment, he looked at Ian with a playful glint in his eye, "Kid, are you telling jokes, or just talking nonsense in your sleep?"

Ian said, "Whether it's a joke or nonsense, just tell me—do you dare to bet or not?"

Conrad Gu's expression suddenly turned cold. "Fine. If you lose, you are not allowed to pester my daughter anymore."

"No!" Ian shook his head. "Those are two separate things. Win or lose, I'm marrying Harriet."

"Are you playing games with me?" Conrad Gu demanded angrily.

"Of course not! If I win, you can't stop me from marrying Harriet. If I lose, this ninth-grade spirit sword is yours!" As he finished speaking, Ian gripped Purple Thunder, pouring true qi into it. Instantly, the sword radiated a dazzling divine light, captivating everyone's attention.

"A ninth-grade spirit weapon!"

Seeing Purple Thunder in Ian's hand, a flash of greed appeared in Conrad Gu's eyes.

"So, do you agree, Uncle?" Ian asked.

"Alright, I agree!" Faced with a ninth-grade spirit sword, he simply couldn't bring himself to refuse.

With Elder Shea as witness, Ian and Conrad Gu signed a formal contract. Ian then handed Purple Thunder over to Elder Shea for safekeeping.

Actually, Ian's bet with Conrad Gu wasn't just an impulsive move.

The system's third mission for him was to unite the Human Race's sects, so sooner or later he'd have to start subduing other sects. Bringing the Origin Return Sect to heel ahead of schedule was just part of the plan.

Ian had just returned to his own courtyard when Harriet Gu showed up again, bringing detailed information on the Origin Return Sect.

The Origin Return Sect controls nine states and has Martial Saint–level experts in residence.

Its strength is much greater than Pristine Way Sect's peak period, which is why Elder Shea was so worried and had Harriet Gu organize the Origin Return Sect's information for Ian to review.

Actually, making the Origin Return Sect submit to Pristine Way Sect wouldn't be that hard. Ian could just bring his three Martial Saints to their doorstep and beat up their Martial Saints.

But relying on brute force alone might not win the Origin Return Sect's genuine loyalty.

To make the Origin Return Sect truly loyal, he needed to offer benefits that would make them eager to join.

In the real world, what people pursue is nothing more than power and profit.
