Trial and Tempering

"Do you think he'll make it?" Lydia Yang asked Liam Yang, who had just arrived.

Liam Yang replied helplessly, "I don't know. Maybe he'll break the record."

"This area has always only been accessible to those at the Emperor Realm, but he's just a Profound Immortal." Lydia Yang was worried, but she knew Evan Yang had to reach Blaze Mountain, and this was the only way to get there.

"Miss, aren't we being too harsh?" After seeing Evan Yang covered in dust and nearly dying several times, Liam Yang sighed.

"I don't know, I really don't know. But..." Lydia Yang felt conflicted. She didn't want Evan Yang to die, but she also hoped he truly was the Second Young Master Ethan Yang's son. Only by passing through here could she be sure, and confirm that Evan Yang carried the Yang Clan's bloodline. After all, this was the most formidable place—if he relied on artifacts, it wouldn't work. Plus, she wanted to see what expression Evan Yang would have if he met her second brother.

"Miss, should I help him out?" Liam Yang asked.

"No. If he's really from the Yang Clan, he has to walk this path himself. Only then can he prove he's one of us." Lydia Yang said firmly.

"This proof is too cruel." Liam Yang frowned.

"Our Yang Clan has a tradition: anyone who can cross this place must have Yang blood. No matter how strong or powerful their artifacts are, they can't survive here unless they have the bloodline." Lydia Yang explained.

"But he's already walked for ten years outside. If it was just an artifact, he'd still be fine here," Liam Yang said, still suspicious.

"Actually, there's something you don't know. The first time I crossed this place, someone told me: it's different from outside. If the starlight outside destroys the body, here it destroys the soul—almost like a curse. If he has any artifact protection, it won't work here." Lydia Yang said.

"So that's how it is. But he's already been inside for quite a while." Liam Yang exclaimed.

"Yes, but only by crossing all the way through can he prove he's truly a member of the Yang Clan." Lydia Yang said.

"But with his current cultivation..." Liam Yang said worriedly.

"There's no other way. This is reality—we have to accept it." Lydia Yang felt conflicted too, but to further prove Evan Yang was truly of Yang blood, she had no choice.

Evan Yang had no idea Lydia Yang was thinking this about him. He just wanted to use this final trial to test and validate himself.

Unaware of all this, Evan Yang was still desperately resisting. Even though the distance ahead was only a kilometer, at his current pace he might not even make it ten meters in a year.

Liam Yang and Lydia Yang could only watch anxiously, worried for Evan Yang.

Evan Yang knew his father was just ahead. Even if it meant risking his life, he had to push through. Several times he tried to summon an artifact, only to find there was no connection at all—as if this place cut off all artifact links.

Faced with this situation, Evan Yang could only resist desperately, improving himself as he fought.

This is what they call training through adversity—it's the fastest way to improve one's cultivation.

With Liam Yang and the woman watching, Evan Yang actually managed to advance ten meters in a year. They hadn't expected this, but if he kept going at this rate, there would be no doubt he was truly of the Yang Clan. The thought made them excited.

Evan Yang had no idea he was related to the Yang Clan. He just wanted to find his father, especially knowing his dad was on that mountain—driving him to cultivate and push forward even harder.

At that moment, Terry Yang was there too, furious because the woman and Liam Yang blocked him from entering. They knew that if Terry tried anything from behind, Evan Yang wouldn't stand a chance.

"Aunt, Steward Li, do you really think this is fair to the Yang Clan?" Terry Yang said angrily.

"That's none of your business," the woman replied coolly, making Terry Yang stomp his feet in frustration.

"Fine, fine. Just wait until Grandpa comes out—let's see how you explain this." Terry Yang was still thinking about reporting to his grandfather, since he was the next clan head and sole heir.

The woman and Liam Yang ignored him and kept watching Evan Yang on the scene.

Terry Yang couldn't understand why they were protecting Evan Yang like this. He was also curious why Evan Yang was still unharmed.

As for Yang Gui outside, and the four elders, they frowned—they hadn't expected them to stay inside for so long without coming out.
