Molly Yun was momentarily speechless, giving a wry smile as she looked at Adrian.
But seeing that he had truly regained his will to live, she was genuinely happy.
As the Buddha said: Saving one life is more meritorious than building a seven-story pagoda.
She had saved a life, and that was always something to be happy about.
"Mm, I forgive you." Molly Yun looked at Adrian and said, "So, get better soon, okay?"
"Okay." Adrian's clear gaze met Molly Yun's as he spoke softly, his voice gentle and hinting at something more.
That subtle undertone was obvious even to Cecilia Gu, let alone Molly Yun with her sensitive heart.
Wendy stood to the side, glancing at Cecilia Gu, then at Molly Yun, and finally at Adrian lying on the bed, as if she suddenly understood something.
But as a competent assistant, she knew what she should and shouldn't know.
So Wendy decided to pretend she knew nothing at all.
After Adrian woke up, neither Cecilia Gu nor Molly Yun stayed long at the hospital.
Adrian didn't try to stop Molly Yun either. He kept a gentle smile on his lips, clearly pleased with the outcome.
In fact, he truly was happy.
He lifted his wrist and glanced at the needle in his arm, chuckling softly. But as he laughed, a sigh escaped him.
"Nora Yun, how could I ever be cruel to you like this?" Adrian murmured to himself. "If one day you learn that everything was my scheme, would you still accept me as a friend?"
After speaking, Adrian shook his head and continued muttering, "I'm sorry, but I have no choice. As the High Priest, this is my duty. Your child—I must have them."
After leaving the hospital, Cecilia Gu let Wendy go home first and drove Molly Yun back herself.
The two sisters didn't speak. Both were a bit lost, unsure what to say.
After all, this was the first time they'd ever encountered something like this.
If the person involved had been someone they disliked, it would have been much easier to just walk away.
But the thing is, Adrian just isn't the kind of person you can dislike.
Not only is he impossible to dislike, he actually makes you feel sorry for him.
His eyes are so pure and clear, carefully hiding his feelings so as not to trouble anyone else—only hurting himself. It's childish, but undeniably touching.
Even though both Cecilia Gu and Molly Yun are married, meeting a suitor like this still leaves them feeling a bit regretful.
Cecilia Gu hit the brakes, and only then did Molly Yun realize they were home.
"Sis." Cecilia Gu called out to Molly Yun, just as Molly Yun was about to get out of the car, her hand froze.
"Hm?" Molly Yun looked up.
"If you ever need help with anything, I'll be there." Cecilia Gu said, "That way, your husband won't get angry or jealous, right?"
"Alright," Molly Yun replied. "If I could, I wouldn't even want to see him again. But..."
"I understand," Cecilia Gu said. "No one could've seen this coming. I never expected Adrian to have feelings for you."
"It's fine. I won't go to the company for a few days. You handle the Jade Petal Naturals contract." Molly Yun said, "I'll go visit some relatives with your brother-in-law."
"Okay." Cecilia Gu nodded and agreed.
As expected, Cecilia Gu took charge of the Jade Petal Naturals contract transfer, personally bringing it to the hospital for Adrian to sign.
When Adrian saw Cecilia Gu come alone, he gave a wry smile and asked, "She's still angry, isn't she?"
"Not at all." Cecilia Gu placed the contract on the table, while Wendy brought over a chair for her to sit. "My sister and brother-in-law are visiting relatives. The Jiang family has a lot of connections, and as their daughter-in-law, Molly can't skip these social obligations. Even I can't avoid them—marrying into these elite families means these things become your responsibility. So don't overthink it, she's really just busy, that's why she asked me to get the contract signed."
Adrian smiled, finally at ease.
He didn't argue whether the reason was true or not. He just nodded to Cecilia Gu and said, "Did you bring the contract? I'll sign it."
Seeing him like this, Cecilia Gu couldn't help but feel a bit sorry for him. "If you're not feeling well, you can sign it in a few days."
"It's fine. Even if I'm weak, I can still sign my name." Adrian reached out to Wendy for a pen and signed the contract. "My task is done, so I can go home now. Don't worry, I won't cause her any trouble."
Hearing this, Cecilia Gu felt even more guilty. "I'm not trying to drive you away."
"I understand." Adrian looked up at Cecilia Gu. "You protect her, and I get it. People say the Jiang family's young madam would give her heart to Mrs. Charles Yin if she could, but what they don't know is, Mrs. Charles Yin has already given her heart to the Jiang family's young madam."
Cecilia Gu's eyes immediately turned red.
She never expected an outsider to see right through the bond between her and her sister.
Cecilia Gu said with feeling, "Adrian, you rarely interact with others, but somehow I always feel you have a magical ability to see into people's hearts. People say all sorts of things about me and my sister. Some say she only married Eric Jiang to climb the social ladder. Others say I use her to bind the Jiang, Yin, and Yun families together. Some even claim Eric Jiang is in love with me, and to appease him, I let my sister marry into his family. People say all kinds of things. They don't dare say it openly, but who knows what they're thinking! Yet you—after only a few meetings—seem to have seen right through our past."
"Should I praise your cleverness, or be wary of it?" Cecilia Gu looked at Adrian. "If you used this skill in business, you'd be terrifying. Seeing through people—it's not a talent most people have."
Adrian's heart skipped a beat.
That was close—he almost gave himself away.
His ability really was to see into people's hearts.
It was thanks to this ability that he was able to fake his way into the distinguished Mexican family.
He never expected to almost be exposed by Cecilia Gu when he'd never failed with anyone else.
The Yun sisters really are his nemesis!
"I'm just guessing, really. You know, being a patient means I can't go out, can't socialize, can't exercise—I'm stuck in bed all day. The only thing I can do is use my brain." Adrian quickly tried to save face, explaining, "But I'll take it as a compliment."
"Of course it's a compliment." Cecilia Gu took back the contract, glanced at the fancy script, and then signed her name.
"Normally, a contract this big should be signed in the office, witnessed by a crowd, with a handshake and a photo to commemorate it. But today is special, so we'll sign it like this for now. Next time we work together, we'll do it properly."
Cecilia Gu joked.
Adrian was amused by Cecilia Gu. "Alright."
Once the contract was signed, the other party quickly fulfilled their part of the deal, transferring the money to Danni Cosmetics' account. The Jade Petal Naturals production line was officially handed over.
After finishing up, Cecilia Gu didn't go looking for Adrian again.
Adrian, for his part, kept his distance and didn't bother Molly Yun.
This time, it was as if nothing had happened at all—so peaceful that it was easy to forget what had transpired.
Days passed peacefully, like clouds drifting by.
It wasn't until Molly Yun and Eric Jiang returned from their trip abroad that Molly suddenly realized she hadn't heard from Adrian in days.
Adrian had stopped sending her WeChat messages or any other updates, quietly disappearing from her life.
As Molly Yun pondered this, Eric Jiang walked in wearing pajamas. Seeing Molly lost in thought, he gently hugged her. "You've worked hard these past few days. That side of the family is a branch of the Jiangs, but they're still elders. Out of respect, we had to visit."
Molly replied immediately, "It's nothing. I was just thinking about work. Jiang family matters are my matters, so it's not a hardship. Besides, we went to celebrate, so it wasn't hard at all. You must be tired too. Rest early tonight, you have to go to the office tomorrow."
Alright." Eric Jiang replied with a gentle smile.
Cecilia really is so relaxed, leaving Yuhan and Miaogu at the base, and even leaving Yinuo there without worry?" Molly Yun was always the worrier, one thing after another.
Eric Jiang laughed, "You, as the eldest aunt, worry more than a real mother. Don't worry, Yinuo is a mischievous kid, like a tomboy. She's happier than anyone in Hans' place. She doesn't have the same training as Yuhan and Miaogu, so she just plays as she likes. When she's tired, she rests, and when she's awake, she plays again. With Hans watching over her, she won't be at a disadvantage."
"That's true," Molly Yun said, "but Yinuo is still a girl!"
Eric Jiang chuckled, "Since you like kids so much, why don't we have one of our own soon?"
Molly Yun blushed, "Look at you, bringing this up again."
My mom mentioned it a few days ago. She said we should have a child soon—boy or girl, she'd be happy. Our branch of the family is too small. In my father's generation, there was only him and his sister. She married into the Yin family, so my father was left to support the Jiangs alone. It's lonely. And after what happened to my aunt, she's settled in South America and won't come back. So they really want a grandchild—feels like there's no one left in the family, too quiet.
Molly Yun nodded, not shying away from the topic. "It's true, not many people around, not much energy. Yihai, I want to have a few children of our own, make this home lively."
Eric Jiang was delighted and just about to speak when someone knocked on the door. "Sir, madam, there's a call from the lady—it seems urgent!"
