Half an hour later.
One kick and she slipped into her jeans. A flick of the arm, and the jacket was on in a flash. With a quick sweep of her hands, Jill Young pulled her long hair out from under the collar, her clothes swirling stylishly around her. Her fingers twisted and spun, pinning her hair up tight and tucking it into a dusty yellow cowboy hat. She pressed the brim down low and patted her cheeks—okay, disguise complete!
"How do I look? Pretty close, right?" With a few pops and crackles, Jill Young rearranged her bones and muscles until she looked just like Jill Caprio. The legendary master of disguise was back—this time, as a foreigner, but still nailed the look nine out of ten.
"You can do that?" Dream Monroe couldn't help but be amazed. "I didn't sense any magic at all—how'd you pull it off?"
"It's not magic, it's skill. Ever since I broke through the Titan Spirit Method to three dragon power, even my mimicry's gotten a serious upgrade. But don't get me wrong, it's not all-powerful. I picked this old driver because he's skinny. Remember that walking meat mountain from our last cheating sting? No way I could pull that off—where would I even get all that meat? Heck, these jeans are already way too baggy for me!"
Wearing my own pants under the jeans still made the legs flap around like sails. Modern clothes are way too fitted—unlike the old days, when baggy robes hid everything. Makes disguising a real pain.
"Your skin's not right either—it's so smooth, I can't even see your pores," Dream Monroe said, tilting her head to nitpick. "And your 'pecs' are way too thick. That little bean sprout doesn't have muscles like that!"
"Hey, I can't help it! I can't conjure up meat I don't have, and I can't just make it disappear, either. Getting this far is already a miracle!—How about you use a spell to cover for me?"
"No way," Dream Monroe turned away, "Whatever you end up looking like is your problem."
Eh, whatever. It's just a ticket in the door, anyway. As long as I get past the first checkpoint, no need to sweat the details.
