"Ding." The system prompt sounded in Ian Song's ear at just the right moment: "Mission One: Protect your five roommates for twenty-four hours. Reward: 10 million Fame Points. Failure: Deduct 20 million Fame Points."
After issuing the mission, the system fell silent again. It seemed that, compared to the previous world, the system's missions had been adjusted somewhat.
The real question was, just how strong were the zombies in this world?
As he pondered this, Ian Song pulled out his phone.
It was now 7:40 PM. He wondered when the zombie outbreak would fully erupt.
Thinking of this, he looked at his five roommates and deliberately led the conversation: "Do you guys really think that guy who bit someone was just crazy?"
"He must've been crazy!"
Mark Mao recalled, "Ian, you didn't see how fierce that guy was. He actually swallowed the chunk of flesh he bit off—I almost threw up right then!"
"Didn't that scene seem kind of familiar to you guys?" Ian kept nudging them.
Everyone froze for a moment, instinctively recalling scenes from all those apocalypse movies and novels they'd seen.
"Don't tell me that guy caught the zombie virus and turned into a zombie?" Ray Wang said, half in disbelief and half in fear.
"Pfft!" Leo Liao scoffed. "Come on, there's no such thing as zombies in this world. Ray, you've watched way too many apocalypse movies—you're losing it."
"Anything's possible! Anyway, it's better for everyone to be careful."
Kevin Zhou said thoughtfully. He'd also witnessed the biting incident firsthand—the attacker looked scrawny, but his strength was freakish. It took four cops working together to pin him down.
"Makes sense. I say we should keep it low-key tonight and not go out much." Mark Mao nodded in agreement, fully backing Kevin's suggestion.
"You guys are getting way too dramatic!" Leo Liao looked exasperated. "Seriously, I'm done talking nonsense with you all. I've got a date for a movie, so I'm heading out!"
"Wait up!"
Ian Song called out to stop him.
"What's up?" Leo Liao turned to Ian, a hint of impatience in his voice.
"For your own safety, you really shouldn't go out tonight." Ian said earnestly.
A low, guttural sound came from his throat.
Without warning, the young man lunged forward, grabbed the middle-aged man's head, and bit down hard on his face.
What are you doing?
The middle-aged man panicked and shouted, trying to push him away, but the other's strength was terrifying—he couldn't budge him.
Ah!
A scream burst from his lips as the young man bit off a chunk of flesh from his face.
Huo huo! Huo huo! (zombie growls)
At that moment, the other two also lunged forward and started biting the middle-aged man.
Help! Somebody help!
The middle-aged man screamed in agony.
Soon, two officers on duty rushed in. Seeing the three attacking the middle-aged man, they were shocked.
Stop!
All of you, stop right now!
But the three kept biting madly.
Quick, pull them apart!
Just as the officers got close, two of the attackers abandoned the middle-aged man and pounced on the officers, knocking them down and biting their necks.

Ian Song looked like he was engrossed in a novel, but in reality, he was thinking about when the zombie outbreak would happen.
He couldn't guess the exact time, but he was sure it wouldn't exceed twenty-four hours.
After all, the system had tasked him with protecting his five roommates for twenty-four hours. If it didn't happen within that time, the mission would be pointless. He couldn't believe the system would just hand him ten million Fame Points for nothing.
"Ian, did you figure something out?"
Kevin Zhou walked over and sat on his bed.
"I suspect the apocalypse is about to arrive!" Ian said with absolute certainty.
"Why do you think that?" Kevin pressed.
Just a feeling!
Ian smiled, but suddenly his expression changed. He sat up abruptly and shouted, "Something's wrong—the dorm next door is in trouble!"
