The Young Man

Ken Chu and Hank Feng tried to get up and help, but it was already too late.

On the other side, Evan Lin's expression was calm as he casually clenched his fist, stepping up to meet the blazing hot grill.

“Go to hell!”

A vicious look flashed across Brian Yang's face. Staring at the red-hot grill in his hands, he looked crazed as he swung it down toward Evan Lin.

Evan's seemingly powerless fist collided with the scalding grill in midair, but the crowd's expected scene of his hand being mangled never happened.

Just as the blistering grill was about to touch Evan's fist, it was as if some invisible force shoved it—the whole mesh surface suddenly bulged back toward Brian Yang.

Brian Yang's eyes widened in disbelief at what was happening before him.

Before he could react, the entire mesh of iron wires snapped apart, and the burning hot wires sprang back, whipping straight across his face.

The searing heat instantly left purple welts across his face. Brian Yang howled in pain, and at that moment, Evan's fist passed cleanly through the now-empty grill frame, slamming straight into Brian's cheek.

What looked like a feather-light punch sent Brian Yang flying through the air with a single blow.

Everyone watched as Brian Yang's tall frame traced a graceful arc through the air, his cheek grotesquely twisted by the sudden force.

As his body flew through the air, three blood-stained teeth shot out of his slightly open mouth. Then Brian Yang crashed sideways, flying straight into the nearby lake.

Splash!

Brian Yang hit the lake, sending up a spray of water.

Evan Lin remained in his punching pose, his face calm and almost indifferent, yet his bright, youthful eyes shone in the sunlight. To Ivy Deng and the others, the sight was almost surreal.

“Xiao... Xiao Yi, you just sent him flying with one punch?” Hank Chu and Ken Feng scrambled up from the ground, staring blankly at Evan Lin.

The frail boy they remembered—when had he ever been this powerful?

“Yeah, flew.” Evan nodded, and with a casual tap of his toe, knocked out a nearby troublemaker.

Brandon Yang was still lying on the ground, screaming in agony—his legs were basically ruined.

After seeing Evan Lin punch his older brother into the lake, Brandon Yang's heart completely sank.

Evan Lin, how dare you fight in public? Don’t you know that’s illegal?

Max Ma, standing beside Ivy Deng, felt a surge of jealousy as he saw Brian Yang and the others all defeated, and Evan Lin standing there like a war god, with the girls’ eyes full of awe.

His mind blanked out, and the words that burst out were full of anger.

So what?

Evan Lin turned his head slightly at Max Ma’s words, his eyes calm and harmless, looking pure and nonthreatening.

But that very look made Max Ma shiver all over; his earlier excitement was instantly doused, leaving him stone cold sober.

All the girls, including Ivy Deng, looked at Max Ma. In their eyes, Max—whose father is the county magistrate—has always worn expensive clothes and used high-end products.

His family background gave Max Ma confidence, letting him handle himself smoothly with both students and adults, and making him seem more mature and composed than his peers—which is why so many girls, Ivy included, admire him.

But now, Max Ma immediately regretted what he said.

He wasn’t a match for Brian Yang’s crew, much less Evan Lin. But right now, Max was stuck—if he backed down, his reputation with the girls would take a huge hit, but if he kept talking, he couldn’t be sure Evan wouldn’t hit him.

After weighing his options, Max Ma steeled himself and glared coldly at Evan: “My dad’s the county magistrate. What you did is illegal—I’m telling him as soon as I get home.”

You have two choices: either turn yourself in at the police station, or wait for me to call the cops and have you arrested. Your call!

Max Ma braced himself.

As soon as he finished, the boys nearby immediately nodded in agreement: “Yeah, you hit them—everyone saw it!”

You didn’t just break Brandon Yang’s leg—you also punched Brian Yang into the river!

Violent maniac!

He’s too dangerous—maybe he escaped from a mental hospital or something.

A few girls chattered nervously nearby, their eyes toward Evan Lin full of fear.

These First High girls were all considered attractive in Whitewood County, especially with their good grades and elegant aura compared to girls from other schools. They were always popular with the boys.

But now, seeing Evan Lin rough up Brian Yang and the others, they couldn’t accept it. The boys they knew were always gentlemanly—even in fights, they’d never break someone’s legs like Evan did.

Too cruel.

“Where were you all when Brian Yang brought his gang to beat us up? Hypocrites!” Hank Chu’s face darkened at the girls’ comments and he shouted at them.

He was standing up for Evan Lin.

Ken Chu spat on the ground, equally upset: “Why didn’t you call them violent when they wanted to beat us? Now that Xiao Yi hit them, you suddenly care? Have some shame!”

Max Ma’s face turned cold: “Hank Chu, Ken Chu! I was going to let you off since we’re all First High, but if you keep mouthing off, I’ll have you arrested too!”

You want to play at brotherhood and stand up for Evan Lin? Fine, you can all hang out in detention—I’ll even bring cards so you can play Fight the Landlord for ten days or half a month!

As soon as Max finished, the crowd burst out laughing.

Brian Yang dragged himself out of the lake, his face twisted with pain and humiliation.

Evan Lin glanced at Max Ma, his eyes calm, then strolled slowly toward him.

What are you doing? You’re not really going to hit me, are you?

Seeing Evan Lin approaching, Max Ma’s face changed and he shouted angrily: “My dad’s the county magistrate! You wouldn’t dare touch me, would you?”
