Chloe Zhu, You Must Be Out of Your Mind
As soon as those words were spoken, the surrounding servants began to gossip, looking at Grace with eyes full of contempt.
"Oh my god! She actually became someone’s chamber maid!"
"She’s the eldest daughter of the Lawrence family, and she willingly stoops so low!"
"She was never a decent girl to begin with, and now she’s sunk even lower!"
"Shameless! Absolutely shameless!"
......
Grace heard all the gossiping from the servants. After a moment of silence, she said, "I’m here for something important."
"Ha! Something important?" Cindy Zhu couldn’t help but laugh. "Dressed like this, sneaking in and out of the General’s Mansion, and you say it’s something important?"
"Yes, it is," Grace replied.
"Pfft!" Cindy spat forcefully. "Grace, you really have no shame! We caught you red-handed, and you can still keep a straight face! Your shamelessness just keeps reaching new heights!"
"Cindy, whatever it is, let’s talk about it back home! This is the General’s Mansion entrance—if people see us, it won’t look good," Grace said.
"You have the guts to do something so shameless, but you’re afraid of being seen?"
Grace took a deep breath. "Cindy, I came here because of Dad. Stop making a scene. If he finds out, he definitely won’t let you off!"
"Because of Dad?" Cindy grinned. "Why don’t you just say you came here with Dad to visit the General’s Mansion? If that’s true, I’ll kneel and apologize to you!"
"That’s right! I did come with Dad!" Grace said. "Maybe you don’t know, but he’s already back—he’s inside right now, discussing business."
"Ha! Grace! You must have water in your brain!" Cindy laughed. "You really dare to say anything, huh!"
The other servants had the same expression as Cindy.
They didn’t know about the Wind Qi Country prisoner’s confession.
So, in their minds, the Prime Minister’s Residence and the General’s Mansion were mortal enemies.
Even if the Prime Minister had returned, there’s no way he’d bring his daughter to visit the General’s Mansion, right?
"Seriously! I suggest you all go home now! Otherwise, when Dad comes out and sees you making a scene at the General’s Mansion, you’ll definitely get punished!" Grace added.
But Cindy didn’t believe her, and none of the servants moved.
They all thought she was just making excuses.
Her excuses sounded so weak and pointless, completely unreasonable...
"Is it because of what I’m wearing that you’re all suspicious?" Grace continued. "This is actually Dad’s order, he—"
"Shut up!" Cindy suddenly grabbed Grace’s wrist and said, "Enough talking, come with me!"
She dragged Grace toward the entrance of the General’s Mansion.
Cindy is a Spirit Practitioner. With so many people watching, Grace couldn’t fight back and had no choice but to let Cindy pull her to the mansion’s main gate.
"Cindy, what are you doing?" Grace asked, frowning.
"Doing what? Today, I’m going to expose you!" Cindy whispered in her ear. "Let’s see how you get into the palace and become the Imperial Noble Consort!"
After saying that, she started banging on the door—smack, smack.
The door quickly opened.
A guard stepped out, saw the crowd, and frowned. "What’s going on?" he asked.
"Sir," Cindy called out, "we’re not here for trouble. We just want to ask—do you recognize her?"
She pointed at Grace.
She wanted to have Grace identified right in front of all the mansion’s managers—to pin the blame on her for good!
