Mirror Grinding

12/15/2025

I watched this scene quietly, feeling utterly incredulous. Yvonne Yang had given everything for Feng Liyun—her heart and soul. Yet I never imagined Feng Liyun would turn out like this.

"Well, there's a bit of a problem for now. Miss Feng, you should be well aware of the consequences of working with us, right?"

The Red Mask Agent asked, but Feng Liyun just burst out laughing, her expression fierce as she clenched her fists.

"Hmph. We've been together since we were little, but I was always just her backdrop. The women in the brothel treated her better than me, always giving her things to eat. Even when we joined the Golden Troupe, everyone favored her. Master Jin taught her and taught me in completely different ways—he was attentive and patient with her, but with me, I was just her foil. Why? She always put on this act of caring for me—disgusting. Always polishing the mirror, huh? Heh."

"Alright, little girl, we don't want to hear your story. Tonight was a twist of fate, and we helped you in a way. Make your choice. From now on, join us..."

"I'll work with you."

Feng Liyun didn't hesitate to answer, though at this moment she looked like Yvonne Yang. She now possessed everything that belonged to Yvonne Yang, and her eyes sparkled with excitement.

"Oh? Not even going to ask any questions?"

Feng Liyun burst out laughing again.

"Why bother? You can give me money, you can give me everything I want. Again and again, I've hoped, only to be disappointed. Back in the ruined temple, no one cared about me. 'For my sake?' Years ago, when she became the leading actress, why didn't you come looking for me? Hah, 'for my sake'—it was always just about fulfilling your own desires. I've had enough. Why do I have to suffer like this, while she gets to go through life so smoothly? Hmph."

"Indeed, you qualify, little girl. Welcome to the Immortality Society."

The Red Mask Agent reached out a hand. I clenched my fists, gritting my teeth as I watched everything unfold. I remembered how Yvonne Yang, searching for Feng Liyun's whereabouts, would constantly ask Master Jin. Her concern was not driven by desire, but by love.

Later, Feng Liyun fell seriously ill. What I saw was Yvonne Yang, frantic, rushing in and out of every herbal shop, always asking for remedies even when she couldn't find any.

"Originally, I knew my illness couldn't be cured. I thought I could at least die peacefully at the end. But fate wouldn't let me die. Heh, since that's the case, I won't let anyone take anything from me ever again."

Watching Feng Liyun descend completely into madness, the Red Mask Agent exchanged a glance with the Taoist Elder.

"Your lifespan can be transferred, but your corpse must be preserved as a medium. The transfer can only happen gradually. Little girl, you should go back. We'll handle the rest. When the time comes, we'll contact you."

The Taoist Elder spoke. Feng Liyun shot Yvonne Yang another vicious look and then left, laughing wildly.

Afterward, I saw the Taoist Elder draw a ritual array around Feng Liyun's body. He spent the whole night chanting incantations, and gradually, I saw Yvonne Yang's soul slowly leaving her body.

"The real show is yet to come. Heh, this should be good material. We'll see what happens next."

The Taoist Elder said this, and the Red Mask Agent nodded.

"It should be good material. The darkness within will surely be drawn out."

The next day, everyone in the Golden Troupe heard about Feng Liyun. Wesley Zhang rushed over anxiously, afraid that Yvonne Yang—whose body was now occupied by Feng Liyun—would fall seriously ill and be unable to bear the blow.

But Feng Liyun just cried and told everyone about her sister, hoping to return to the ruined temple. That night, she buried Feng Liyun. Wesley Zhang saw Feng Liyun's worried face and immediately offered to help her ease her pain.

No one knew that the current Yvonne Yang actually housed Feng Liyun's soul. She had completely replaced Yvonne Yang and possessed everything that was hers.

I saw cunning in Feng Liyun's eyes. But in the troupe, one person sensed something was wrong—Master Jin. She looked at Feng Liyun with a strange, unfamiliar gaze.

That night, on an ornate pleasure barge, Wesley Zhang tried to comfort Feng Liyun. But Feng Liyun took the initiative and embraced Wesley Zhang. They spent the night together, and the next morning, Wesley Zhang swore a solemn oath to marry Feng Liyun.

Unfortunately, what Wesley Zhang saw as Yvonne Yang was actually Feng Liyun. He didn't know. After Wesley Zhang left, I saw Yvonne Yang's soul—pale and ghostly—shouting Feng Liyun's name over and over. At this moment, Yvonne Yang saw Feng Liyun, not her own body.

"Sister, sister, you're better now, you're better! I'm Yvonne, sister..."

I realized something: although Yvonne Yang was already dead, she herself didn't know it. She still lived within the memories of trying to save Feng Liyun.

Feng Liyun dressed herself in front of the mirror, but the face she saw was Yvonne Yang's. Her eyes flashed with anger, and with a crash, she smashed the mirror, gripping her own face in fury.

"I've already been reborn, so why is this disgusting woman still here? Why?"

In the days that followed—one, two, three—Yvonne Yang's soul kept trailing after Feng Liyun, calling out to her, but Feng Liyun couldn't hear.

Master Jin seemed to sense something. The Golden Troupe still had to perform, so Wesley Zhang hurried back to the capital to discuss with his parents. After all, they were a prestigious family, and marrying a performer would be scandalous. He traveled day and night to return home.

"Heh heh, Yvonne, didn't you like him? I used your body to sleep with the man you loved. So what? Yvonne, you were born to be hated. Stop disgusting people, always calling me sister. Heh heh..."

At the dressing table, Feng Liyun was getting ready to go on stage. The audience below was packed, all waiting for the show. But Feng Liyun was not Yvonne Yang, and after ten years without performing, her skills had declined.

At first, Master Jin thought it might be Yvonne Yang, deeply affected by Feng Liyun's death. But he couldn't figure it out.

If it was just a matter of lost skill, it seemed too much. After several performances, Master Jin began to notice something odd. He was convinced that the person with Yvonne Yang's face was not really her—he tested her several times, and sure enough, her speech, movements, and expressions were all different.

He considered asking directly, but at that moment Wesley Zhang returned. After much persuasion, his parents finally agreed, and soon Yvonne Yang would marry Wesley Zhang as his second wife.

All this made Master Jin abandon the idea. Meanwhile, Yvonne Yang, following Feng Liyun, started to emit black energy from her body, and I saw her gaze grow increasingly fierce.

After their marriage, Wesley Zhang showered Yvonne Yang—whose body was inhabited by Feng Liyun—with affection, living poetically each day. But the once clever and lively Yvonne Yang now seemed dull, her skills in music, chess, calligraphy, and painting were at a beginner's level.

At first, Wesley Zhang thought it was trauma, but after one or two years, he realized something was seriously wrong. His attitude toward Feng Liyun cooled drastically, and after two years of marriage, they still had no children.

By then, the Golden Troupe had disbanded. Master Jin, nearly fifty, had managed to secure a fifth-rank official post and was thriving, but he still couldn't let go of Yvonne Yang—the star he had nurtured into brilliance on stage. He longed to see her perform again.

Driven by this longing, Master Jin visited Wesley Zhang. Over drinks, they shared their memories of Yvonne Yang, and both came to the same conclusion: the woman before them was not Yvonne Yang, but Feng Liyun.

At this point, Master Jin recalled how, back then, Yvonne Yang had tried to save Feng Liyun. Unable to bear it, he told her about the Maoshan arts and even helped her seek out someone who practiced them.

To verify everything, the two secretly decided to go to the ruined temple at night to check the burial place of Feng Liyun's corpse.

At night, they went together, bringing some officers, to the ruined temple. To their shock, Feng Liyun's corpse was still there, unrotted, except for some stench and a bluish face with eyes oozing pus.

To get to the bottom of things, Master Jin searched everywhere and finally found a monk with some cultivation. After examining, the monk told them the souls had been swapped—Yvonne Yang's body housed Feng Liyun, and the real Yvonne Yang had been following Feng Liyun.

Upon learning that nothing could be done, Wesley Zhang broke down in tears, and Master Jin wept bitterly too. They decided, at the very least, to help Yvonne Yang find peace, to let her return to dust.

To see clearly, the monk gave them special water to rub on their eyes—then they could see. Sure enough, they saw it, and Wesley Zhang was filled with murderous intent. One night, while Feng Liyun slept, the two tied her up.
