Innate Ninth Layer

1/11/2026

An hour later, Ian Song walked out of Villa No. 1 feeling refreshed and cheerful. After so many days, he’d finally succeeded, and just thinking back on those delicious moments was indescribable.

Suppressing the lewd, satisfied grin on his lips, he strode quickly toward the high-level meeting room at the survivor base.

Inside, the senior staff of the base were already present. When Ian arrived, everyone greeted him warmly.

After a brief round of pleasantries, the staff began reporting on the situation at the base.

First, on the food front: every day, hundreds of scavenging teams go out to gather supplies.

So, the base wasn’t lacking in food. Plus, they’d opened up farmland and already planted seeds that had sprouted.

Next, the military: all thirty thousand soldiers were training and cultivating nonstop. Every single one was considered an elite.

After hearing all the reports, Ian proposed a major operation: a large-scale zombie-clearing campaign.

Now, with Corpse One dead and Corpse Two having fled Harbor City, nearly two million zombies were left leaderless. Their feeding instincts would drive their actions, and with a population of seventy thousand, the base was bound to become their top target.

If all two million zombies gathered around the base, it would be catastrophic. So, wiping them out was absolutely necessary.

Whoosh!

With a flash, Ian appeared inside the factory.

A dark shadow flickered—it was a tier-seven S-Type zombie lunging at him.

"Die!"

A longsword appeared in Ian’s hand; he swung it, and with a slash, the S-Type zombie was decapitated.

After harvesting the Evolution Crystal, Ian left the factory; as for the low-tier zombies, he had no interest in killing them.

Thanks to Clairvoyant Vision, he killed over two hundred high-tier zombies above tier seven in a single day.

On that same day, the three combat regiments led by Zeke and the others killed over fifty thousand zombies, with twelve casualties.

On the second sweep day, Ian killed 197 high-tier zombies above tier six, while the three regiments wiped out seventy thousand zombies with nineteen dead.

On the third day, Ian slew 169 more tier-six-plus zombies, and the three regiments killed 105,000 zombies with only eight casualties.

After five days, Ian had wiped out all zombies above tier six in Harbor City, collecting over 900 high-grade Evolution Crystals.

With the elite zombies gone, Ian turned his attention to tier-four and tier-five zombies.

In just a few days, he killed nearly ten thousand tier-four and tier-five zombies. With all high-tier threats eliminated, the three combat regiments found their work much easier, slaughtering over 100,000 zombies daily.

After more than ten days, nearly two million zombies had been wiped out. Except for a few hiding in sewers or among cluttered piles, zombies were now rare in the city.

During the mass zombie-clearing operation, over a thousand more human survivors were found.

Once the sweep ended, the base held a massive celebration banquet. Nearly all the senior staff got drunk that night.

Ian drank heavily as well and seemed to get drunk. When he woke up the next morning, both Coco and Lillian were lying in the same bed with him.

Coco was unconcerned, but Lillian felt shy and embarrassed.

For the next three days, Ian completely indulged himself.

On the fourth day, Ian returned to seclusion, aiming to break through to Innate Ninth Layer.

With a thought, the system interface appeared before his eyes.

After condensing the sword fetus, his spiritual power increased by nearly 200 points, physical power by more than 200, and Azure Lotus Sword Codex was added to his manuals.

His level also rose by two to 14, but he didn’t receive any system lottery rewards.

After checking the system panel, Ian took out several dozen tier-eight Evolution Crystals and swallowed them like candy.

The evolutionary energy in the tier-eight zombie crystals was extremely powerful; feeling it explode inside him, Ian couldn’t help but moan in pleasure.

An hour later, all the crystals were absorbed, and his physical power increased by 200 to 4490.

He still had hundreds of tier-six and tier-seven crystals in his Storage Ring, which could further boost his stats, but he decided not to continue for now.

At this point, his spiritual power, physical strength, and especially his condensed sword essence far surpassed ordinary Innate Eighth-Layer cultivators, so breaking through would be very easy.

As he circulated his cultivation art, his body crackled like firecrackers; acupoints exploded open and meridians roared. In less than five minutes, he had forcefully opened the meridians for Innate Ninth Layer.

After one full circulation, his sword essence returned to his dantian, and he formally stepped into the Innate Ninth Layer.

With a flip of his palm, a green pill appeared.

This pill was called a Spirit-Nurturing Pill; he had previously collected large amounts of spiritual herbs in the Secret Realm and refined many such pills using the Pill Condensation Technique.

This Spirit-Nurturing Pill was even more advanced than the Origin-Nurturing Pill; taking one was worth about three months of cultivation for an ordinary Innate Ninth-Layer cultivator.

After swallowing one Spirit-Nurturing Pill, immense medicinal power erupted in his body. After an hour of absorption and refinement, his sword essence increased by about one-tenth.

He continued.

This time, Ian took two Spirit-Nurturing Pills at once, further strengthening his sword essence.

Ultimately, after consuming more than fifty such pills, his cultivation surged to the peak of the Innate Ninth Layer.
