Sylvia Ran's Fragile Helplessness

1/4/2026

Sylvia Ran looked up at Charles Yin as soon as she heard him speak.

Her mouth opened, but before she could say anything, big tears started rolling down her cheeks. She looked absolutely devastated.

"Charles, are you blaming me?" Sylvia choked out, her tears flowing like a river. "I was just worried about you, and she talked to me like that! My heart hurts, and now you’re saying this to me too!"

Charles Yin’s gaze flickered and he raised an eyebrow. "What did you say?"

"I just told her to be more considerate of your feelings, not to throw a tantrum. Was that wrong?" Sylvia said, looking so hurt. "But she said even if I have feelings for you, I’d have to wait until she divorces you before... boohoo... That’s so mean! How could she say that to me? My heart is just broken..."

Even when Sylvia cried, she couldn’t help but sound a little bit cute and needy.

Sylvia kept an eye on Charles Yin’s expression as she cried.

Charles’s eyes trembled slightly, but his face stayed completely blank.

Sylvia felt a little disappointed.

"Charles, should I really not ask about your business? I was just genuinely worried about you! As a friend, don’t I even have the right to care?" Sylvia bit her lip, her face full of hurt. "Charles, we used to love each other, so we’re the closest people, right? Even though... things have changed, I still care about you! I’d never do anything to hurt you!"

Charles’s eyes flashed, but his mind was somewhere else.

Was Cecilia jealous?

Just thinking about that possibility made Charles suddenly feel happy.

If she’s jealous about Xiaowei and me, doesn’t that mean she likes me too?

He remembered how she secretly kissed his ear when he woke up from his nap, and now with Xiaowei’s words, it all seemed possible.

Thinking that Cecilia already liked him, Charles’s heart soared.

Xiaowei saw the flash of joy in Charles’s eyes and thought he was agreeing with her, that he approved of her caring about him.

Xiaowei pressed her advantage. "Charles, honestly, I don’t blame Cecilia at all. After all, she’s your wife now, and I... I can only watch you from afar..."

But Charles was too busy basking in his own theory that Cecilia already liked him, completely missing Xiaowei’s sadness. He nodded and said, "Yeah, that’s right, Cecilia is my wife now, so please be considerate of her in everything you do."

With that, Charles turned and walked away.

He was going to find Cecilia and get to the bottom of this!

He wanted to ask her if she’d really fallen for him!

Xiaowei was about to say something, but saw Charles turn and leave. She stomped her foot in frustration. "Seriously! After all these years, how is he still so clueless? I’m crying my eyes out and he doesn’t even try to comfort me!"

Xiaowei thought about it. She couldn’t just sit here and do nothing—she had to make a move.

If she couldn’t attack Charles head-on, she’d just have to take a roundabout approach!

Wasn’t Charles supposed to meet with Max Mo in K City to discuss the energy project? Well, she was great at logistics, so she’d volunteer to help!

Alright, that’s settled!

Cecilia glanced outside and said, "Wow, I didn’t realize it was already dark."

Nora Mu put down her magazine and said, "You just noticed? K City’s an hour ahead of N City, but it’s about time for night to fall."

Cecilia stretched and said, "Let’s go, we should head back. Xiao Wang, make sure you rest up. Don’t rush back to work. This counts as a workplace injury, so I’ll apply for sick leave for you!"

Xiao Wang was beyond touched!

She’d worked at Yin Enterprises for a while, but bosses who actually cared about their employees were pretty rare!

Cecilia and Nora walked out of the hospital room together. After a few steps, they saw Max Mo on the phone nearby. "Uncle, don’t worry, I’ll find someone to help you with this! It’s no big deal, really!"

Cecilia hadn’t planned on interrupting Max, but when she heard him mention Mr. Yun, she couldn’t help but stop.

Max saw Cecilia and nodded at her and Nora—a quick greeting.

Cecilia waited until Max finished his call before asking, "What’s going on with Mr. Yun?"

"Oh, it’s nothing. The Yun family’s accountant suddenly quit, so there’s nobody to handle this month’s payroll. It’s almost payday and they just realized no one did the salary reports. Don’t worry, I’ll send someone to help Uncle Yun out."

Cecilia had wanted to thank the Yun family for helping her, and now she heard about their trouble—she could totally handle that. She immediately wanted to do something to repay them.

Cecilia said right away, "Really? I know a bit about accounting. If the Yun family doesn’t mind, I can do this month’s books for them."

Max’s eyes lit up with surprise. "You mean it?"

Cecilia smiled and nodded.

Nora grinned, "Awesome, we’ve got another excuse to eat at the Yun house! I love Mrs. Yun’s desserts—they’re just amazing!"

Cecilia and Max both laughed.

When Charles finally arrived at the hospital, he was told Cecilia had just left!

Why couldn’t that little troublemaker wait for him?

He had a million things he wanted to ask her!

He needed to know how Cecilia felt.

He’d never been this desperate to know someone’s feelings before!

If someone pointed at him and said he was crazy right now, he’d admit it without hesitation!

If it was for her, so what if he lost his mind?

But why couldn’t that little troublemaker wait for him?

Charles was just about to call Cecilia, but before he could dial, his phone rang. It was Aiden. Charles picked up right away. "What’s up?"

"Boss, everything’s been taken care of, just like you wanted!" Aiden reported about Zhang Li. "And about that real estate guy, Zhu..."

"Men like him are just a waste of space! ... Never mind, I should do some good for our son. Just let him go, and don’t let me see him again!" Charles finally changed his mind.

The old Charles would’ve destroyed him without a second thought.

But things were different now—he had a family, a wife, and a son!

He wanted to do good for his family.

If karma came, let it hit him, not Cecilia or their child!

Aiden silently took note of Charles’s orders, then added, "Boss, just got word from headquarters—the chairman wants you to settle in as soon as possible. The doctors and other staff should arrive tomorrow morning."

That’s when Charles remembered—he needed to hurry up and buy a house!

It really wasn’t convenient staying at Qiao Qi’s place all the time.

Whatever, he’d ask her about it another day.

Right now, he should just buy her a place so she’d be settled.

Charles didn’t waste any time—he had Aiden call in the most reputable real estate agents in town.

Word got out that Charles Yin was buying property in K City...

The top real estate agents in town came running with keys in hand.

Who cares about selling?

Just give it away!

The CEO of Yin Enterprises wasn’t someone you could easily impress!

They’d even pay out of pocket to give him a house, as long as they could get in with Yin Enterprises. Whatever it cost, it was worth it!

So, the Zhao family, who’d chatted with Cecilia that afternoon, ended up earning Charles’s favor.

After looking for a long time, Charles finally picked a villa not far from Qiao Qi’s house.

Even if it was just for a few days, he couldn’t bear to let Cecilia be uncomfortable.

Once he’d picked the house, he left the rest for Aiden to handle.

Meanwhile, Cecilia, Nora, and Max were already at the Yun house, happily enjoying dinner.

Everyone else thought Cecilia was just a pretty face, there to give the Yin family an heir.

But when Cecilia called in the Yun family’s accountants and started going over the books, everyone realized she actually knew her stuff!

Nora stared at Cecilia in disbelief. "Wait, when did you learn how to do this?"

Cecilia’s fingers flew across the keyboard as she answered lazily, "Before I married Charles, I was just a nobody in the company’s logistics department. No connections, no background. Everyone dumped their work on me, so eventually I ended up doing reports for every department. Accounting was just one of them!"

Cecilia made it sound so casual, but everyone else felt a pang in their hearts.

Especially Mrs. Yun, who was so moved she almost started to cry.

Cecilia had been doing this kind of work for years, so it all came naturally to her.

And since the person who quit had kept the books in good order, and there weren’t any big staff changes this month, Cecilia quickly finished the financial reports and payroll.

As the printer spat out the forms, Max’s gaze toward Cecilia grew even deeper.

Cecilia always managed to surprise everyone!

By the time they left the Yun house, it was already past midnight.

The Yun family wanted Cecilia to stay longer, but now just wasn’t the time.

Cecilia and Nora politely declined and headed back to Qiao Qi’s villa.

Qiao Qi’s wedding would be officially over in just one more day.

The two of them had come for the wedding, but ended up taking a whole day off from the festivities.

It had definitely been a busy, fulfilling day!

Back in her room, Cecilia didn’t bother saying another word. She tidied up and went straight to bed.
