Killing in Coldriver City (Part Two)

1/19/2026

The corpse of the richly dressed middle-aged manager plummeted from the sky, sending shockwaves through the crowd below. Coldriver City hadn’t seen an upheaval like this in ages. The onlookers, gripped by a mix of terror and excitement, refused to leave—everyone sensed that even more dramatic scenes were about to unfold.

Evan Lin glanced at the corpse, preparing to land, when four figures streaked through the air—a gray-robed elder and three middle-aged men. They arrived in front of Evan and surrounded him at once.

Evan instantly recognized these four as enforcers from the City Lord’s Mansion. He was surprised by their speed, and after a quick scan, saw that all four were Golden Immortals—the elder at late stage, one at mid stage, and the other two at early stage.

All four stared at Evan Lin in disbelief—a mere kid had dared to kill someone in Coldriver City, and not just anyone, but an early-stage Golden Immortal. It was almost impossible to imagine.

“Who are you, kid? How dare you run wild in Coldriver City? Don’t you know that making trouble here means certain death?” The elder spoke first, clearly the leader of the four.

Evan Lin shot the elder a disdainful look and replied, “Who I kill is none of your business. If you know what’s good for you, move aside—or you’ll end up just like him.”

“Big talk for a brat! How dare you disrespect the Three Protectors? You must have a death wish!” snarled one of the early-stage Golden Immortal men.

Evan Lin hated bootlickers. “You talk too much. I’m flattered your City Lord sent four Golden Immortals just for me. You really think I’m scared? Let’s start with you!”

Evan didn’t want to waste time arguing. Direct slaughter was simpler—no one knew why he’d come to Coldriver City, and if a real threat appeared, he could always retreat as long as Gavin Jin was safe. This was a perfect chance to test his current strength.

But facing only Golden Immortals left Evan disappointed—he’d hoped for a Da Luo Golden Immortal or even a Ninth-Heaven Arch-Immortal. Only opponents at that level could truly test his limits and expose his weaknesses.

Evan drew the Frostbane Sword from his storage ring and silently activated Heart-Sword. He’d been striving to elevate Heart-Sword into a true treasure-control technique, able to resonate with elemental power—even if he couldn’t yet borrow heaven-and-earth force, gathering elemental energy was easy.

But against an early-stage Golden Immortal, there was no need to gather elemental particles. Evan simply unleashed a plain sword strike—the Frostbane Sword shot forward like a meteor, and the massive sword-qi hit the man before he could even react.

By the time the man realized what was happening, it was too late—a late Da Luo Golden Immortal-level attack was far beyond what an early-stage Golden Immortal could withstand. With a deafening boom, a bowl-sized hole appeared in his chest, blood spraying everywhere. Evan destroyed both his heart and Immortal Infant in an instant.

With a single move, Evan killed the early-stage Golden Immortal. He spat, “Trash like this is just wasting food—not even worth the swing. Ruins my mood.”

Evan’s words were a vicious insult to the remaining three. He went even further—conjuring a fireball, using Chaos Immortal Force to hold the corpse aloft, and burning it to ash in a few breaths.

Watching the three glare at him, Evan grinned: “I’m doing a good deed here—beautifying Coldriver City’s environment. Your City Lord ought to thank me.”

The three were thoroughly enraged. The elder said, “We misjudged you—you’ve been pretending to be a pig to eat a tiger, hiding your strength on purpose. Since you look down on us, I’ll show you there are people you can’t afford to offend!”

As soon as the elder finished speaking, Evan felt a wave of pressure—but it was laughably weak. The elder had cast a spatial domain, but a late Golden Immortal trying to bind a late Da Luo Golden Immortal was courting death.

Seeing Evan motionless, the elder assumed his spatial domain had pinned him and laughed wildly: “You’re nothing special, kid—my domain sealed you easily. Looks like you’re only mid Golden Immortal. That’s impressive for your age, but you’re too arrogant. Killing City Lord’s Mansion enforcers means you’re doomed.”

The other two enforcers felt relieved—so this kid was only mid Golden Immortal, a rare talent but not a threat. If properly cultivated, he might one day reach Da Luo Golden Immortal or even Ninth-Heaven Arch-Immortal.

Evan nearly laughed himself sick at their delusion. “Your domain is useless against me. You know how vicious the backlash is when a domain is shattered, right? I’ll let you taste it now—a mere late Golden Immortal daring to cast a domain on a Da Luo Golden Immortal is madness.”

The elder’s face changed drastically. He tried to retract his domain, but it was too late—Evan smashed a fist into the invisible space barrier, shattering the domain with a boom. A shockwave rippled through the air, and the elder spat blood, nearly collapsing.

The elder staggered, coughing blood, barely able to stay aloft. With a face full of pain, he gasped at Evan, “You... you’re actually a Da Luo Golden Immortal? How is this possible!”

“Impossible things happen all the time. Die!” Evan declared. The Frostbane Sword bloomed into three elegant sword-flowers, stabbing at the trio with indescribable speed—as if all three strikes landed at once. The sword-qi destroyed their hearts and Immortal Infants in a single breath.
