Chapter 220: Thousand-Eyed Spellfiend

Leon wasn’t slow either. With Acceleration boosted by his mana-powered armor, his speed reached its peak. He pushed off the ground hard, leaping more than ten meters in a single bound, then, riding his momentum, shot into the depths of the forest like a bolt of lightning. Trees flashed past on both sides, the grass beneath left a shallow groove, and up ahead came the intermittent screams of the Dragonblood Orc...

“So fast...” As Leon raced after it, he couldn’t help but feel a surge of surprise. The Thousand-Eyed Demon Vine was unbelievably quick. He’d hurled several debuff spells, and any magical beast without insane resistance should’ve slowed down. Yet this vine seemed utterly unaffected, dragging the Dragonblood Orc and running even faster than Leon himself.

At that moment, Leon could clearly sense the magic around him—completely frenzied. Even the stench of the rotting leaves seemed to be infused with surging magical power. With every breath and every heartbeat, magic flooded into his body with reckless abandon. Leon even wondered if he might burst from such overwhelming, wild magic...

"No wonder it dragged things out to this place..." Leon mused, casting a few more buff spells on himself. He knew the Thousand-Eyed Demon Vine was about to stop...

Sure enough, just as Leon finished casting Stone Skin, several vine tendrils lashed out, flinging the Dragonblood Orc into a patch of grass more than ten meters away. At the same time, the powerful inertia caused the tendrils to snap taut, like bowstrings drawn to their limit. With a resonant 'twang,' the vines rebounded with even greater speed than when they had grabbed the Dragonblood Orc.

The Flame Spear, boosted to an extreme spell, blazed with dazzling light in the forest depths. At a glance, Saruman and Bardrack were reminded of the legendary Flame Dragon Lance.

The Flame Spear, trailing a blazing tail, shot forth and pierced the giant eye in an instant. A shrill scream rang out in the forest, then all fell silent...

“Magus Saruman, your warning was too late—there was no time to run...” Leon turned and smiled at Saruman, then bent down, carefully extracting the Mana Crystal from the Thousand-Eyed Demon Vine.

Dozens, even hundreds of Abyssal Bloodvines erupted at once, striking at the Thousand-Eyed Demon Vine’s tendrils like venomous snakes. Instantly, the two types of vines tangled together, a sea of red engulfing the black, thigh-thick tendrils. It looked like a battle between serpents and pythons—impossible to tell who was winning at a glance.

It was a level twenty-five Mana Crystal.

The Thousand-Eyed Demon Vine’s combat power was nearly level thirty. Leon had hoped, if luck was on his side, he might get a Soul Mana Crystal. But when he finally extracted it, it was only level twenty-five. Naturally, he wasn’t in the mood to celebrate...

“Poking you?” Leon frowned instantly.

He was about to ask when suddenly he felt the ground tremble beneath his feet. Even the surrounding trees shook, sending a shower of leaves tumbling down...

“Again?” Leon flipped open the Death Tome once more, channeling magic into it. The Cataclysm Fireball spell mark dimmed instantly, and with a howl, a massive fireball streaked forth, its tail blazing as it shot out with a thunderous boom...

Boom!

After the deafening explosion, the entire forest seemed to quake. Countless beasts scattered in terror, and even the Thousand-Eyed Demon Vine, locked in battle with the bloodvines, froze for a moment. Blinding firelight shot skyward, scorching heat blasted outward, and for dozens of meters, nothing could be seen but a sea of flames.

Amid the earth-shaking roar, Leon thought he heard a scream of agony.

The ground, already trembling, began to shake violently after that scream—like an earthquake. With a thunderous crash, heaps of soil and stone were hurled aside, revealing a gigantic eye...

Beneath the eye, a tangled mass of black vines twisted together, resembling an octopus bristling with tentacles. From where Leon stood, he could clearly see scorch marks on the giant eye—the Extreme Fireburst had done real damage.

But that only made it more desperate. The moment the eye burst from the ground, it launched an attack at Leon—hundreds of black, thigh-thick vines whipped toward him like giant pythons, howling through the air...

At a glance, there had to be a hundred black vines shooting out at once, forming an inescapable web that instantly sealed off all of Leon’s escape routes. Massive trees were snapped with a single twist, the ground turned soft as cake, and the thick vines moved effortlessly through it. For dozens of meters, darkness reigned.

Yet Leon didn’t flinch. His eyes locked on the giant eye, hands moving without pause as he opened the Book of Death for the third time. Extreme Fire Arrow erupted—hundreds, maybe thousands of fire arrows crisscrossed the cramped space...

The sound of exploding fire arrows was a constant barrage, like beans frying in a pan. Thick smoke filled the air, laced with the stench of burning. Hundreds, even thousands of fire arrows detonated at once, instantly obliterating the web of black vines.

Yet Leon’s gaze never left that giant eye. Sure enough, just as he cleared away the vines, a strange light flared. Even through the thick smoke and flying tendrils, Leon could sense an overwhelming danger...

"It’s here!"

In a flash, Leon managed to cast an Icefire Shield, then poured magic into his armor. An arcane symbol slipped from his lips.

And then...

A blinding light erupted deep in the forest!

The Thousand-Eyed Demon Vine truly had a thousand eyes...

As hundreds of vines were charred to ash, the giant eye gathered immense magical power. In an instant, countless spells burst forth from it. None were above second tier—ice spikes, wind blades, earth spikes, fire arrows... all sorts of low-level spells, more than half just pure magical rays. But the sheer number unleashed at once was staggering; even with Leon’s keen eyes, he could only guess there were at least several hundred spells in this barrage...

It was an utterly dazzling sight.

Endless magical runes danced and flickered, brilliant lights surged back and forth, and the forest’s magic boiled over in an instant.

“Merlin, that’s the Thousand-Eyed Spellfiend—run!” At that moment, Saruman finally caught up with Bardrack, and his first glimpse of the scene left him utterly horrified.

Unfortunately, the warning came too late...

The Thousand-Eyed Spellfiend erupted in full force at Saruman’s shout...

The monstrous eye, the dazzling spells—it was a spectacle beyond words. The forest’s depths became a swirling vortex of magic. Yet at the very center, Leon didn’t even frown; he simply pulled the Dragonblood Beastman behind him for cover...

Then began a spellcasting display that defied belief.

Fireburst, Fireburst, Fireburst...

Ice Wall, Ice Wall, Ice Wall...

In less than twenty seconds, Leon unleashed thirty Firebursts and thirty Ice Walls. Each Fireburst shook the earth, each Ice Wall let Leon step forward. Thirty thunderous blasts, thirty steps forward—no more, no less—until Leon stood before the giant eye...

Hundreds, thousands of low-level spells couldn’t even touch the hem of Leon’s robe—all blocked by those thick Ice Walls. But every Fireburst found its mark on the giant eye. The once-mighty Thousand-Eyed Demon Vine was reduced to a charred heap, twitching and writhing, but it was already over...

Because Leon had opened the Book of Death for the fourth time.

The Fire Lance, boosted to an extreme spell, blazed with dazzling light in the forest depths. At a glance, Saruman and Bardrack were reminded of the legendary Flame Dragon Lance.

The Fire Lance, trailing a blazing tail, shot forth and pierced the giant eye in an instant. A shrill scream rang out in the forest, then all fell silent...

“Magus Saruman, your warning was too late—there was no time to run...” Leon turned and smiled at Saruman, then bent down, carefully extracting the magic crystal from the Thousand-Eyed Demon Vine.

But the moment Leon held the crystal, his expression darkened...

It was a level twenty-five magic crystal.

The Thousand-Eyed Demon Vine’s combat power was nearly level thirty. Leon had hoped, if luck was on his side, he might get a soul crystal. But when he finally extracted it, it was only level twenty-five. Naturally, he wasn’t in the mood to celebrate...
