Maxwell Jing and Ethan Gu stepped out from the shadows, unable to suppress their admiration—Princess Consort Morgan Shangguan had discovered them. She was truly remarkable!
Morgan Shangguan glanced at the two men and asked, "Have you figured out what's going on?" Damien Gray hadn’t mentioned to her that he’d sent Maxwell Jing to investigate, but now that Maxwell and Ethan were here, she wasn’t surprised at all. Nor was she worried about Damien—she clearly understood the situation. As the left and right guardians of the Ghostmaster’s Gate, even if Damien didn’t give direct orders, they should know their duties.
Ethan Gu replied respectfully, "The medicine was provided by Crown Prince Adrian."
Morgan’s eyes grew cold. So, it was the Crown Prince who wanted Damien Gray dead. That wasn’t surprising. And if it was Adrian, obtaining poison from Rakshasa Palace would be no challenge. She just didn’t know if Rakshasa Palace and the Crown Prince were truly connected. If the Rakshasa Palace’s people were smart, they wouldn’t get involved in the struggle for the throne now that they were leaderless.
She glanced at the woman on the ground, who was delirious and kept clutching herself, desperate for relief. Morgan spoke calmly, "She’s suffering so much—haven’t any of you thought to find a man to help her?"
At her words, Maxwell Jing and Ethan Gu stared at her, almost doubting their own ears! How could she say something like that so casually? And her remark made them feel as if they’d been heartless for not finding a man to help Claire Yi—it was almost shameful!
Maxwell Jing finally snapped out of it and said hesitantly, "Princess Consort, isn’t that a bit inappropriate? After all, Miss Claire saved Prince Damien before."
Morgan gave him a cool look and said in a low voice, "That’s exactly why I’m telling you to find a man to help her. Save her once, kill her once—doesn’t that make things even?"
Seeing Maxwell Jing nod along, Ethan Gu quickly tugged at him. Maxwell came to his senses, realizing what he’d just agreed to, and felt like crying. It was all Morgan’s fault—she’d made his head spin! But she did have a point: save once, kill once, things would be even. Besides, Prince Damien had tolerated this woman long enough.
Ethan Gu spoke up, "Princess Consort, perhaps we should wait for Prince Damien to decide?"
Morgan didn’t speak, simply watched him calmly. Her gaze wasn’t fierce, yet Ethan Gu felt as if he were facing the wrath of the Ghostmaster—chilling enough to make anyone shudder. If not for his strong will, he would have surely stepped back.
He nearly forgot—Morgan Shangguan was not only the Princess Consort, but also the Cloud Guildmaster!
After a long silence, Morgan finally withdrew her gaze and asked softly, "Are you sure?"
Maxwell Jing’s eyes flickered. Suddenly, he said, "We’ll go right away. Don’t worry, Princess Consort—we’ll handle everything!" With that, he grabbed Ethan Gu and left. Ethan frowned but said nothing.
Morgan watched the two men walk away, then suddenly called out, "Tell Prince Damien that I’m waiting for him to play the hero and save the damsel!" With those words, she turned and left.
The two men paused, exchanged glances, and couldn’t quite figure out what she meant.
Ethan Gu couldn’t help but ask, "Do we really need to find a man for her?"
Maxwell Jing shook his folding fan lazily and said, "Did you forget Prince Damien’s orders? What Princess Consort says is what he wants! Besides, between that woman and Princess Consort, who do you think Prince Damien cares about more?"
Ethan Gu stayed silent—the answer was obvious. Maxwell wanted to persuade him further, but Ethan started walking away. Seeing Maxwell still standing there, Ethan turned and raised an eyebrow, "You want to do it yourself? That would save us a lot of trouble!"
Anyone who could stay by Prince Damien’s side wouldn’t be soft-hearted. Ethan’s hesitation was only because he was unsure whether Prince Damien would approve of such a solution.
Maxwell Jing curled his lip and snorted, "If I go myself, wouldn’t that be letting her off easy?"
Ethan Gu studied him closely, making Maxwell Jing uneasy, then asked curiously, "Don’t tell me you’re really that virtuous?"
"Ahem..." Maxwell Jing choked on his own saliva, embarrassed, and barked, "Is that a problem?"
Ethan Gu shook his head. "It’s not a problem, just curious who you’re saving yourself for."
Maxwell Jing snorted, "You’d better keep your curiosity to yourself! Now go find a man!"
"Why should I go? Weren’t you the one who agreed to it?"
Both men were a bit lazy, but they were the highest-ranking members of the Ghost Guild after Damien Gray, and also the ones he trusted most. So, certain tasks inevitably fell to them—ones that couldn’t be delegated to others. Over time, passing the buck had become a habit.
Maxwell Jing’s smile was dazzling. "Fine, I’ll go. Then the next order from Prince Damien will be all yours, Left Guardian!"
Ethan Gu paused, then walked off. He had a feeling nothing good was coming next—the prince’s orders were bound to be even more exhausting than finding a man!
Morgan Shangguan glanced at the swaying bed curtains and the sounds of gasping and moaning from inside. She curved her lips into a smile and murmured, "Prince Julian certainly has quite the appetite! And in broad daylight, too."
No wonder everyone craves power—this is one of its perks!
"Ah..." a woman's scream rang out. "Stab—" The next word was cut off, suddenly silenced.
The bed curtains were lifted. Prince Julian appeared, wearing only a loose robe, his face still flushed with passion—less refined than usual, more wild. As the curtain rose, Morgan saw a woman lying motionless and naked on the bed, clearly knocked out.
Prince Julian narrowed his eyes at the composed figure at the door, a flash of sharpness in his gaze. He smiled meaningfully, "Princess Morgan, you certainly have skills!" She’d entered his bedroom without alerting the manor guards—a feat not just anyone could manage. He’d have to reassess her abilities!
Morgan seemed utterly unconcerned by his scrutiny, as if she hadn’t noticed the deeper meaning in his words. She smiled, "I’m here to discuss a partnership, Prince Julian. I believe you’ll find it very interesting."
