A Major Misunderstanding
"Hmph! That unfilial son—who knows where he picked up such nonsense—actually came back and insulted the Lin Family of Healers!" Dr. Rowan Lin's face was ashen, clearly furious about the matter.
The Lin family members deeply respected and admired their family's healing arts; they couldn't tolerate a single word against them.
Outside doctors treated the Lin Family of Healers with utmost reverence. Anyone bold enough to criticize their medical skills would be drowned in the scorn of their peers.
But Dr. Rowan Lin never dreamed that the first person to challenge the Lin Family of Healers would be none other than his own son, Quentin Lin, whom everyone had high hopes for.
How could Dr. Rowan Lin not be enraged?
Lily Evans listened to Medical Sage Lin's words and lowered her head to look at Quentin Lin.
Alexander Hayes had already unfastened Quentin Lin's belt. Quentin wore a defiant look, brimming with the fearless spirit of youth—so convinced of his own reasoning that he dared to argue with his own father.
"Quentin, tell Big Sister—what happened?" Lily Evans gently wiped the tears from Quentin Lin's face with her handkerchief.
Just moments ago, Quentin Lin had argued with his father like a little warrior. But now, faced with his gentle Big Sister, he burst into tears and threw himself into Lily Evans's arms. "Big Sister, I only told the truth, but Father got angry and even tied me up and hung me from the beam. I never meant to insult our family's healing arts—I just spoke honestly, and Father didn't like it."
Seeing Quentin Lin so aggrieved, Lily Evans knew there was a huge misunderstanding here.
She had Alexander Hayes and Simon Yu go calm Dr. Rowan Lin down, while she took Quentin Lin to wash his tear-streaked little face.
While Lily Evans was washing Quentin Lin's face, Dr. Rowan Lin was still fuming, puffing up angrily as he sat there. But with his daughter, son-in-law, and apprentice present, he couldn't very well lose his temper.
Lily Evans brought Quentin Lin over and asked him to explain everything from the beginning.
Quentin Lin sniffled and said, "When I was attending class at Big Sister's Clearwater Academy, I heard people say there was a Phoenix Library filled with books that Big Sister put there—all written in foreign languages, full of amazing things we'd never seen before. I was really curious, so I asked them to take me to the Phoenix Library."
"There were so many books in the Phoenix Library, and since I can't really read foreign languages, I had them pick a few and read the translations to me. I wanted to see what made these books so special. Each of the older kids picked a book, and one boy asked if my family practiced medicine and if I knew anything about healing. I told him I knew some of our family's traditional medicine. That boy gave me a book called 'Microbiology.' When I opened it, I saw all these strange pictures I'd never seen before, so I asked him to translate some of it for me. It turns out, the book said there are things in this world so tiny you can't see them with the naked eye—called 'bacteria' and 'viruses.' Many people get sick because of bacteria and viruses. The more I listened, the more fascinated I became. But our family's healing arts never mentioned any of this—we didn't even know what 'bacteria' or 'germs' were. Father, it was only after reading these foreign books that I realized, even though our Lin Family of Healers' skills are broad and deep, they're not the most advanced. There are people whose medical knowledge is even better than ours. I was just telling the truth, but Father got angry, said I was insulting our ancestors and disrespecting our heritage, and even hung me up and beat me. I really feel so wronged..."
