Rona Muir was well aware that Sean Kerr's words were far more than a simple threat.
She hadn't just been Sean Kerr's deputy for a day or two; she knew better than anyone the depth of the Kerr Family's influence.
Rona Muir forced herself to suppress her unease, turning her gaze away from Sean Kerr and speaking softly, "Whatever you want to do is none of my business. Likewise, what I do is none of yours. Sean, you can use others to threaten me, but don't push me to leave the country. Yes, in Newport City, the Kerr Family is untouchable for me. But this country isn't just Newport City. My father is getting old—if you want to go after your mentor, I have nothing to say. You know best how my mother treated you; when you were in college, she treated you like her own son. If you want to go after your mentor's wife, again, I have nothing to say. At least I, Rona Muir, earn my living by my own skills. If you really don't want to see me in Newport City, I'll go, I'll leave the country, I'll disappear! I'll vanish completely from your world! Don't push me—I'm capable of that too."
Sean Kerr, conflicted, suddenly covered his mouth and nose, wiping his face harshly.
The two of them had been at odds like this for a long time—neither willing to admit defeat.
Both thought they had found the other's weak spot, but in reality, neither had grasped anything.
Rona Muir spun around sharply and said coldly, "Sean Kerr, I can give you five years. But those five years don't mean I'll be under your control. On the contrary, if you disappoint me again, our agreement is off at any time."
A glimmer of hope suddenly lit up in Sean Kerr's eyes.
"Jay Zhou and I are just ordinary friends. I'm not as desperate as you think." Rona Muir said this and walked out. "Don't try to stop me, or don't blame me for turning against you. My resignation letter is on the desk—sign it. Even if it's just to preserve my dignity, even if it's so that in the future we can stand as equals, not as your deputy."
As soon as she finished speaking, Rona Muir's figure had already disappeared outside the door.
Sean Kerr stared at the resignation letter on the desk, his fingers gripping the table so tightly that the surface began to deform from the force.
Though he didn't want to admit it, he had to concede that Rona Muir made a lot of sense.
As long as Rona Muir remained Vice President of Odyssey Corporation, the Kerr Family would always believe her success was thanks to Sean Kerr.
No matter how outstanding Rona Muir was, the Kerr Family would never acknowledge her.
Perhaps letting her go for now was the right choice...
Though it pained him, for the sake of the bigger picture, Sean Kerr knew he had to sign that letter!
After struggling to reach the building's entrance, Rona Muir couldn't hold back her tears any longer. She stood on the street, her tears flowing freely.
Five years. Five years of promises.
Can I really count on it?
Charles Yin returned to the study, where Little A had connected the signal.
After Charles Yin and Cecilia Gu left, quite a few interesting things happened.
A gleam flashed in Director Brooks's eyes on the screen. He said, "Why talk about buying or not buying? Why be so formal with your brother? How about this—since you like your brother so much, I'll buy you an apartment outside, give you a million a month, and all you have to do is be happy. Leave the hard work of making money to your brother."
Sylvia Ran saw Director Brooks trying to deny everything after the fact and immediately became anxious, sitting up in bed and turning to look at him.
"Mr. Drew, what do you mean by this? Didn't we agree? As long as I stayed here with you, you'd sell me your shares! And I'm buying them, not asking for them for free." Sylvia Ran was too anxious, and her tone became sharp.
She was running out of time and couldn't tolerate any more surprises.
Director Brooks's eyes flickered, recalling the person who had warned him. Now, seeing Sylvia Ran's expression, he suddenly understood.
Director Brooks's face darkened. He got out of bed, put on his robe, signed a check, and placed it on the bed. Slowly, he said, "This is money for you to buy a purse."
After saying that, Director Brooks turned to leave.
Seeing Director Brooks really trying to back out, Sylvia Ran gritted her teeth, jumped out of bed, and blocked his way. Her eyes flashed coldly: "Mr. Drew, what do you mean by this? You think you can buy me off with this little money? Do you really think I'm worthless?"
Sylvia Ran directly dialed a number and said, "Let Mr. Drew have a good look."
